Chapter 34 - Private Jack 4

"So can't we do anything about it? Are we going to let an innocent woman be raped and aren't we going to help?"

"We can't do anything about it, you may have heard about it from Paul, we can't arrest or attack the nobles, but what I can do is tell Max capital what we saw, I know who the noble is and if that nobleman has committed other crimes he can be executed too."

Jack was angry, but he knew that Aaron was right and even more that he who had just gotten released from prison could not get in trouble, Aaron also seemed to be very angry, but they could not do anything against the nobles.

Aaron and Jack decided to leave this place, but before they left Jack decided he had to do something and took one of the pepper bombs he had made and threw it on the floor in the narrow hall near where the nobleman and the woman were and then he and Aaron left.

This pepper bomb could very disturb even wild animals that had more resistance, so the nobleman got scared and ended up walking away from the woman who took the chance to escape the noble.

Jack could not prevent the woman who was raped from being traumatized by this, but he at least tried to help her suffering not to continue after he and Aaron saw this they no longer wanted to stroll through the capital and went back to the defense tower.

Aaron went with Jack to tell Captain Max what they had seen, Captain Max was resting when he was called by the guards because Aaron was calling for him, Captain Max was irritated by this, but calmed down when he realized that Jack and Aaron looked even angrier than he is.

"What happened to you that you guys called me at this hour and still looking so angry?"

As soon as Aaron, who knew how things had to be done, calmed down and started to tell Max what had happened, Captain Max soon became serious and realized that the matter was very delicate and important.

"These nobles are really getting bolder in the last few months, it's not the first time this year that a guard or soldier has come to tell me that something like this has happened."

"You did well not to try to arrest or attack this nobleman, especially you Jack, you would certainly be executed if you tried to arrest a nobleman when you just got out of prison."

"It was Aaron who helped me, captain, if I were alone, I would have attacked this nobleman, I can't understand how people like that can do this kind of thing and still get out."

"I understand your revolt, Jack, if it were me who was there I could arrest this nobleman because I am the captain of the army and the guards, besides me, only a knight could have stopped this."

"Besides, that woman that you saw her being raped with, would certainly deny that anything happened if we arrested this noble if she didn't do that her entire family would be executed by that noble's family."

"That is why nobles who have no character realized that it is almost impossible for them to be arrested no matter what they want to do."

The three were irritated by this and Captain Max said he would do an investigation to find out who the nobleman Aaron and Jack saw, knowing which family he was in, already made it easier for Max to find him.

"I'm going to investigate this, but you shouldn't tell anyone about what happened in the capital yesterday if you tell anyone and this nobleman's family knows you're in trouble."

The two understood this and promised not to tell anyone, Jack was thinking of telling what had happened to Paul, but now that he had promised it was better that he didn't even talk about it with Paul.

After that situation a few months passed, Jack was already 18 years old and was an adult and he had already learned many things in the army about discipline and everyone considers him a competent soldier.

Neither Jack nor Aaron told anyone about what had happened in the city that day, so after a few months Captain Max trusted Jack more, Jack went out to the capital several times with Aaron, Paul, and other guards and soldiers too.

So Max ordered Jack to come to his office, Jack didn't talk to Captain Max often because he learned well what the hierarchy in the army was, only people like Paul who were more experienced guards and soldiers spoke to Captain Max or whoever Captain Max allowed it.

"Jack, you have become a soldier in the kingdom for a few months now, you have shown a lot of responsibility and skill, so I decided that as of today you no longer have any restrictions and are a normal soldier."

"If you want you can leave the defense tower and find another place to live here in the capital and you can leave the defense tower without anyone having to accompany you."

"Thank you, Captain, I am happy that you trust me, I promise I will not disappoint you."

"I also think that you will not disappoint me, Jack, in the coming days more soldiers will be sent to the Royal road, many soldiers have died from wildlife in recent years."

"I want you to go with the other soldiers to the Royal road, I am confident that you will not think of escaping to the forest, I will also give you orders to command a group of soldiers to go to the forest near the Royal road."

"You must kill a lot of wild animals so that the other soldiers are more secure, this is a good opportunity for you to show your skills and stop being an ordinary soldier someday."

"Thanks for the trust, Captain, I will kill several wild animals and help protect the other soldiers on the Royal road."

Max knew that it was too risky to trust Jack to command several soldiers to go into the forest and kill wild animals, but Max had seen in the past few months in training how Jack had more skill with his sword than most soldiers.

Using the bow Jack was one of the best in the entire army, only the archers who always train to stay in the defense towers of the capital were much better than he, but these archers had to be good because they were instrumental in defending the walls in a siege that could happen in a war.
