Everyone sat down after the chaos, trying to compose themselves and regain a sense of order. Yu Qi silently sat beside her grandfather, her expression calm but distant. She did not utter a single word after Madam Jiang had called her a "bastard child." Those words had clearly stirred something deep within her, touching emotions she rarely allowed to surface.
Grandpa Tang grew worried when he saw Yu Qi become so unusually silent. He knew that those words had affected her more than she was willing to show. Yu Qi had once told him about how she had been adopted by the Wang Family and how she had lived all these years under their roof. Without saying anything, Grandpa Tang reached out and held her hand tightly, offering silent comfort and reassurance.
Yu Qi turned her head slightly to look at Grandpa Tang, who responded with a proud and reassuring smirk.
Seeing him like this, Yu Qi felt a faint warmth bloom inside her heart. She told herself that she should not feel anything when people said such things about her, because she already knew the truth of her past. And yet… it still hurt.
"Sir, please hurry up and solve my case. Don't we already know who is responsible for this? They just need to pay compensation for all of my losses." Madam Jiang said impatiently, glaring daggers at Yu Qi.
In truth, she did not want to stay here any longer after the fear she had felt earlier. She only wanted to leave this place as soon as possible. However, she also did not want to go home empty-handed without receiving any compensation. After all, she had heard from Madam Wang that Yu Qi was now loaded with money.
Even the old man Yu Qi lived with appeared to be wealthy. Madam Jiang was certain that they would not want to tarnish Yu Qi's reputation. Being labelled as a thief would ruin a young girl's future completely. No one would want to marry her after such a scandal.
"I'm sorry. I will not pay for anything because I am not guilty." Yu Qi said calmly, without even the slightest hint of guilt in her voice.
"You… You were the one who stole my crops and destroyed my farm!" Madam Jiang accused again, her voice rising.
"Then please provide your evidence to the police. If you can present clear evidence proving that I was the one who did this, I will gladly compensate you for your losses." Yu Qi replied in a firm and unwavering tone.
She adjusted her sitting posture, carrying herself like a queen seated upon her throne, looking down upon insignificant peasants. A faint sneer appeared on her lips as she looked at Madam Jiang. There was no doubt. Yu Qi was completely looking down on her.
Grandpa Tang smiled faintly, feeling a sense of satisfaction when he saw Yu Qi's attitude. In his opinion, it was perfectly acceptable to look down on someone like this woman, a woman who accused others without any evidence.
Madam Jiang ground her teeth in frustration upon hearing Yu Qi's words. Of course, she did not have any evidence.
How could she possibly have any evidence? She had only heard from Wang Ha Na that Yu Qi was selling vegetables to Aunt Chang's shop. Based on that alone, she had simply assumed that Yu Qi was the one who stole from her farm.
"From my subordinates' investigation, Madam Jiang, your farm grows vegetables such as onions, garlic, leeks, shallots, chives, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli. Is that correct?" The person in charge of this case, Sir Man Pao Ting, asked for confirmation from Madam Jiang.
"Yes, that's right." Madam Jiang confirmed without hesitation.
"Oh, did you get the list of vegetables that Miss Yu Qi sold to the shop?" Sir Man Pao Ting asked quietly, turning to his subordinate beside him.
"It should be ready by now. They will hand it over once they arrive." The subordinate replied.
"Please wait for a moment. My subordinates are currently working on this case. They are on their way back from the shop where Miss Yu Qi sold the vegetables." Sir Man Pao Ting said, attempting to calm the increasingly restless atmosphere.
After fifteen minutes of waiting, his subordinates finally arrived at the police station. They handed over the information they had gathered from the shop to their superior. Along with them, they also brought the shop owner, Aunt Chang.
Sir Man Pao Ting quickly reviewed the information. His eyes moved rapidly across the document as he nodded several times. After finishing, he lifted his head and looked at everyone present.
"Based on the information we obtained from the shop, Miss Yu Qi sold various types of vegetables. These include butterbur stalks, butterbur buds, ostrich fern, flowering rapeseed, spring chrysanthemum, bamboo shoots, mountain asparagus, and several types of mushrooms such as white button mushrooms, brown mushrooms, open-cap mushrooms, Chinese black mushrooms, clamshell mushrooms, hedgehog mushrooms, and king brown mushrooms." Sir Man Pao Ting paused briefly to catch his breath before continuing. "From this information, none of the vegetables listed match those grown on your farm. Therefore, this clearly proves that Miss Yu Qi was not the one responsible for what happened to your farm, Madam Jiang."
"Humph! Maybe Chang Moon Ju is her accomplice." Madam Jiang retorted stubbornly, clearly unwilling to give up the easy money she thought she could obtain from Yu Qi.
"Jiang Sung Wa, you had better mind your words. I swear to God that I have provided genuine information to the police." Aunt Chang said firmly, glaring back at Madam Jiang.
"Enough! This information is sufficient to prove that Miss Yu Qi is not guilty. We will continue investigating and look for new leads in this case. Madam Jiang, you will have to wait patiently. As for Miss Yu Qi, Elder Tang, and Madam Chang, you may all return to your homes. If any of you obtain new information regarding this case, please report it to me immediately." Sir Man Pao Ting said, bowing slightly to them in a respectful manner.
"I have some information about this case."
