The world was no longer the same, not after being crippled and devastated by the calamity that was the Third World War. Million deaths, both military and civilian. Countless families were left broken and displaced. Towns were laid to waste, ravaged by bombs and artillery. Multiple cities were wiped off the world’s map by bioengineered weapons and nuclear bombs. Nations weakened, broken, divided. Old empires collapsed, and new ones were born and baptised by the ashes of war. In the wake of the war, international criminal organizations formed, pirate groups powerful enough to control entire regions of the ocean and terrorize even naval forces, and corporations and secret societies took advantage of the fragile new world to further their ambitions. To combat the new world’s threats, various Private Military Companies formed all around the globe, offering their services to any nation with enough capital but not enough military power to deal with the plethora of threats. This gave rise to the new age of PMC and Mercenaries. My Phan, birthed by a human-trafficked mother, raised in captivity, and later rescued by a PMC, but not before witnessing her mother’s death. Adopted by the man who rescued her. My was raised and guided to be a PMC soldier when she became of age. As she stepped into the world of mercenaries, she must become strong and fierce enough to overcome countless threats to the new and fragile peace, to uphold her own sense of justice, and to exact vengeance against the higher forces that have caused so much suffering to her before. Follow My (Maple) Phan as she battles against criminal syndicates, pirate overlords, corporate tyrannies, and monsters lurking within secret societies all around the world. *********************** Crossposting on Webnovel, Royal Road, Scribblehub, and Wattpad. Cover Art drawn by DGKamikaze (@gkamikaze_d on Twitter)(Fuck AI "art") This novel is inspired by a lot of fictional works from various media genres, such as the John Wick series, the Ready or Not game, Call of Duty/Battlefield franchise, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, etc. Alternative real-world events with a twist. Every character mentioned is fictional. Expect lots of lore and alternative timeline world-building, action scenes, accurate tactical actions mixed with gun-fu, and sexy times. The lead MC is a bisexual female with a poly relationship down the line (NOT HAREM, everyone in the relationship has connections to everyone else). This isn't a harem male MC self-insert, sorry to disappoint. I currently have a full-time job outside of writing this novel; in fact, I would be writing this novel during work. Expect 1-2 chapters a week, each with 2k words per chapter on average. No specific timetable. This is my first novel, so I’m still figuring things out as I continue to write this novel as a passion project. There might be things that I miss, timelines jumbled, loopholes accidentally created. If there are any errors you want to point out or any constructive criticism, please feel free to leave a comment. I’d do my best to read through and update the novel to make the reading experience seamless. This is a mature-themed novel, but if it’s uncomfortable, that’s understandable. I placed myself into my own novel, and now the world I once wrote is trying to erase me. I walk through the Human Realm as Kaeru, crossing roads I designed, entering kingdoms I once imagined, and standing before ruins, towers, and people that were never supposed to feel this real. What should have been a story has become lived reality, and every step I take drags me deeper into a world that no longer obeys me simply because I created it. Because creation was never the same as belonging. The Human Realm stretches before me as both invitation and warning. My journey through it is filled with things I cannot yet explain without saying too much—meetings that will matter later, places that should have been ordinary but are not, and scattered pieces I keep gathering for a future even I know will demand them. None of it is random. None of it is meaningless. Somewhere down the line, every fragment will become necessary. And yet, the more I move forward, the more the world itself begins to turn. The Law of Aion is not a rule, nor some distant force of morality or justice. It is the weight of continuity. The pressure of meaning. The truth that existence, no matter how much it changes, must still be able to trace itself. And around me, that truth is shifting. Quietly. Relentlessly. Reality bends in small ways first—through timing, through people, through events that feel almost right until I notice the shape of what is being altered. It is trying to make sense of me by leaving less room for me to exist. Something in this world knows that I do not align with the path that led everything here. My presence strains against the shape of what should be. So the Law moves—not to destroy me outright, but to rearrange the story around me until I can no longer remain inside it as I am. But I keep moving. I keep gathering what I need. I keep walking toward answers I may not want. And behind all of it, beyond every silence and every shift in the world, there is Kaediel. Close enough to haunt my thoughts. Distant enough to remain unclear. Whether he is another self, a witness, or something far beyond either, his presence lingers like a shadow cast by a truth I have not yet reached. This world remembers its own meaning. And if I cannot prove mine before the story closes around me, then one day the path that created everything will continue on— as if I was never part of it at all.
