Chapter-Length Note: Mikæl is a long-form progression fantasy. Chapter lengths vary, with some becoming especially long during major conversations, System development, relationships, territory building, and exploration.
Mikæl Malakai Monrœ-Mercer was never meant to inherit a throne.
The world gave him no wealth, divine heritage, or prophecy. It gave him hardship, limitations, and dreams far larger than the life he was expected to accept.
Then Taboo awakened.
Taboo is a mysterious System capable of turning money, effort, knowledge, achievements, and risk into extraordinary opportunities. Through it, Mikæl can acquire wealth, abilities, bloodlines, territories, and power beyond Earth.
But he is not left to navigate it alone.
Genesis is the companion assigned to guide him through Taboo until he masters the System. She is not Taboo’s voice or personality. Genesis is her own person, with her own thoughts, boundaries, emotions, and bond with Mikæl.
Taboo begins differently.
At first, it is simply the System: panels, missions, rewards, and rules. Yet as Mikæl grows, Taboo grows beside him. Its responses become less mechanical. Preferences emerge. Adaptation becomes personality, identity, and eventually personhood.
Genesis begins as a person helping Mikæl understand the System.
Taboo begins as a System slowly becoming a person.
His rise starts with money, investments, and the power to transform his life. Yet wealth is only the first doorway. Beyond Earth waits a private territory where magic, technology, divinity, bloodlines, supernatural races, and countless paths can coexist.
There, Mikæl can build cities, sanctuaries, towers, temples, gateways, and eventually an entire civilization. Allies, summons, refugees, gods, monsters, lovers, and those discarded by other worlds may find a place within his dominion.
They will possess histories, desires, wounds, and choices of their own.
As Mikæl crosses the boundaries between worlds, he will encounter unconventional relationships, dangerous temptations, devotion, jealousy, power exchange, and forbidden passions that challenge laws, traditions, faiths, and expectations.
Some taboos exist only to preserve control.
Others exist for a reason.
Mikæl will have to learn the difference.
Power may allow him to obtain nearly anything, but affection cannot be reduced to a reward screen. Loyalty created through fear is only obedience wearing perfume, and desire means nothing without choice.
His dominion will attract governments, pantheons, cosmic sovereigns, and entities older than realities. Some will offer alliances. Others will try to control him. Others will send armies, assassins, bargains, or emissaries hiding chains behind promises.
They will see a new lord who has grown too quickly. A mortal commanding powers he should never possess. A man whose true name, Mælkharion Vœl-Astraeth, carries a weight even ancient beings may recognize.
Mikæl must build two empires: a corporate empire on Earth and a sovereign dominion beyond it. Every reward brings consequences. Every bond deepens his responsibilities.
Power will not make him flawless. It will give every part of him greater reach. His anger can ruin lives. His compassion can save civilizations. His ambition can create a home for the brilliant, the broken, the divine, the monstrous, and the unwanted.
The omnicosm will tell him a mortal should not wield divine authority. That a companion should not become more important than her assigned purpose. That a System should never develop desires, identity, or personhood. That forbidden knowledge and forbidden passions should remain buried.
Mikæl has spent enough of his life being told what he cannot become.
They will learn his mortal name.
They will fear his true name.
And one day, every world will know only one:
MIKÆL
