Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: VAIBHAV

Seventeen-year-old Vaibhav had spent his whole life in Sagar—a city that felt borrowed from a softer age.

A vast lake rested at its center, so wide that every sunrise made the city glow like an island of gold. Visitors called Sagar beautiful.

For Vaibhav, it was simply home.

Quiet. Familiar. Predictable.

His house stood close to his school, near enough that he could walk there half-asleep every morning. Coconut trees lined the narrow lanes, their shadows sliding across walls like slow waves. From his bedroom window, he could see the lake in the distance.

Always calm.

Always the same.

At least… that was true until the night everything changed.

That night, Sagar felt wrong.

The lake was too still, as if something beneath it was holding its breath.

Vaibhav didn't notice at first.

He was lying on his bed, scrolling through his phone under the dim yellow light of a table lamp. Outside, the wind had stopped. Even the street dogs, usually loud at this hour, were silent.

Then it began.

A soft vibration.

Not in the floor.

Not in the walls.

Inside him.

At first, he thought it was his heartbeat acting strangely. His chest felt warm, almost magnetic, as if something invisible was pulling at him from beyond the room.

The lamp flickered.

The shadows on the wall stretched for one unnatural second—

then returned to normal.

Vaibhav sat up.

"Hello?" he said nervously. "Koi prank mat karna…"

No answer.

Only the vibration again.

Stronger this time.

But strangely peaceful.

His vision blurred.

And then he saw it.

A faint blue spark hovered in the corner of the room.

It trembled like a drop of liquid light.

Vaibhav backed against the wall.

The spark expanded… then hardened into a small crystal floating in the air.

It rotated slowly.

Its glow was soft and emotionless.

Not threatening.

Not welcoming.

Only watching.

"What… is that?" he whispered.

The crystal pulsed once.

Then it shot forward.

Straight into his chest.

The world collapsed.

Not the room.

Not the city.

Him.

A silent shock tore through his existence.

His thoughts shattered.

He felt himself dying—

again and again.

Burning.

Drowning.

Fading.

Breaking.

It was as if the crystal carried memories of ruined worlds and forced him to experience every ending in a single moment.

His breath vanished.

His name meant nothing.

Every time he tried to remember who he was, the identity of Vaibhav slipped away.

Then—

a presence appeared.

Cold.

Ancient.

Calm beyond emotion.

The will of the Black Stone.

It did not ask.

It claimed.

His memories shrank into darkness while something older began to rise inside him.

He could not scream.

Could not think.

Could not tell where he ended and it began.

And just before he disappeared completely—

something changed.

A second rhythm entered the chaos.

His heartbeat.

And the stone's pulse.

At first they clashed.

Then slowly—

they aligned.

Thump.

Thump.

For one impossible moment, Vaibhav felt something new being born inside him.

Not human.

Not stone.

Something between both.

He saw a shadow in his mind.

A figure that looked like him—

and not him.

Then everything went black.

Vaibhav hit the floor.

Sweat covered his body.

His breath shook violently.

He didn't know it yet, but something irreversible had already begun.

A thread now connected his soul to the crystal.

A thread that should not exist.

A bond neither side fully controlled.

And if anyone capable of sensing divine energy had been present…

they would have seen one terrifying truth.

For a single breath—

Vaibhav's aura and the Black Stone's aura became identical.

Then it vanished.

But it was real.

A future sealed inside one moment.

The room slowly returned.

The ceiling.

The fan.

The dim light.

Everything looked normal.

Until he tried to stand.

A cold heaviness pulled from his chest.

With trembling hands, Vaibhav lifted his shirt.

And froze.

A black crystal was embedded in the center of his chest.

Not hanging.

Not attached.

Merged.

It was darker than darkness itself.

It did not reflect light.

It swallowed it.

"What… what is this?"

The stone pulsed once.

Like a heartbeat.

Vaibhav stumbled backward in panic.

He rushed downstairs.

His older brother Raghav was lying on the sofa, scrolling through his phone.

Relaxed.

Unaware.

"Bro…" Vaibhav said, voice shaking.

Raghav looked up. "Yeah?"

"Do you… see something on my chest?"

Raghav frowned. "What?"

Vaibhav lifted his shirt.

Raghav leaned closer.

Squinted.

Then looked annoyed.

"I don't see anything."

He flicked Vaibhav's forehead.

"Pagal ho gaya hai kya? Too much late-night anime?"

Vaibhav stepped back.

The crystal was still there.

Cold.

Alive.

Beating softly beneath his skin.

But Raghav couldn't see it.

"Only I can…" Vaibhav whispered.

A chill ran through him.

Far beyond the world humans could sense—

something ancient awakened.

A signal had been felt.

The birth of a new bearer.

The Devas.

Those who could see what mortals could not.

Those who felt when divine forces returned.

Those who would soon begin searching.

Vaibhav knew none of this.

But somewhere in the unseen layers of existence—

a pair of ancient eyes opened.

And smiled.
