"Sora, Sora~"
As soon as the dismissal bell for the first period rang, even before the teacher walked out of the classroom, Yamada Elf couldn't wait to turn around. With her arms crossed over her chest and her chin held high, she looked at him smugly:
"You said studying was hard yesterday, so you were just trying to fool me."
"It's clearly super easy."
"The stuff the teacher taught in class wasn't difficult at all."
"Hehehe~ I really am a legendary honor student, aren't I?"
"..."
"You're celebrating too early. History is inherently very easy." Sora remained expressionless.
"Do you know what the next class is?"
Out of all high school subjects, history is arguably the easiest, bar none. Anyone with a brain can learn history; not being able to learn it is the real problem!
"Eh, what is it?"
"Math class."
"Hmph~ Just math. It'll definitely be easy too."
"Whether it's easy or not, you'll only have the right to say that after you finish math class."
"Idiot Sora, don't look down on me. Just wait until I get a perfect score in math to show you!"
"..."
After exchanging a few words, the gossiping girls in the classroom swarmed over, starting to chat and gossip with Elf.
"Yamada-san is so cute. Where do you live?"
"What school did you go to before?"
"Did you suddenly transfer here for Izumi-kun?"
"What is the relationship between Yamada-san and Izumi-kun?"
"..."
Surrounded by a few gossiping girls, it sounded like hundreds of ducks quacking. Sora truly couldn't stand the noise, so he simply got up and left the classroom.
He went to the restroom, played on his phone in the hallway for a bit, and only unhurriedly returned to the classroom when the bell rang.
The second period officially began.
The subject was still trigonometric functions.
As the math teacher's deep, mellow voice rang out, the entire classroom quickly quieted down.
Yamada Elf, originally full of enthusiasm, sat up straight, ready to experience the joy of math. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for her eyes to glaze over. With a face full of bewilderment, an expression of doubting life itself slowly crept onto her small face.
Who am I?
Where am I?
What is that middle-aged uncle talking about?
Why can't I understand a single word when put together?
These so-called trigonometric functions... are clearly a language and script used by aliens!
Yamada Elf only lasted ten minutes before she started nodding off.
Not even halfway through the class, she had already collapsed onto her desk. Like a salted fish beaten to exhaustion by life, she completely gave up struggling.
Unfortunately, the math teacher wasn't going to let her off the hook.
Although his teaching style was dull and rigid, it was undeniable that the math teacher was indeed a relatively dedicated and good teacher.
Seeing Yamada Elf listlessly sprawled on her desk, the math teacher pushed up the glasses on the bridge of his nose, put down his lesson plan, and picked up his thermos:
"Yamada-san, please come up and solve this problem."
"..."
Yamada Elf remained sprawled on her desk, completely motionless.
Helpless, Sora could only secretly reach out and poke Yamada Elf's lower back.
"Mmm..."
A girl's waist seems to be very sensitive, and Yamada Elf was even more so. The salted fish Elf from a moment ago suddenly jumped up, looking at Sora in confusion.
"The teacher is asking you to answer a question," Sora reminded her in a low voice.
Not knowing the answer is fine, many people can't answer it.
But sprawling on the desk motionless is an attitude problem. You might get sent to the hallway to stand with a bucket of water.
Given Elf's arrogant personality, if she were sent to stand in the hallway, she might angrily stuff a screaming prank box into the math teacher's briefcase.
Yamada Elf raised a hand to wipe the drool from the corner of her mouth, puffed out her chest, stood up, and confidently declared with a loud, clear voice:
"I choose C!"
She forgot where she saw it, but when in doubt, choose C.
"..."
The classroom instantly fell silent.
Immediately following, a burst of uproarious laughter erupted, the air filled with a cheerful atmosphere.
Sora silently covered his forehead, sighing helplessly.
That's a calculation problem, there are no multiple-choice options at all! Just saying 'I don't know' would have been better than choosing C!
"Sora, what are they all laughing at?"
Yamada Elf hadn't realized her mistake yet. She turned to look at Sora, her eyes bewildered.
Hey, hey, don't talk during class, and definitely don't blatantly turn around to look at the person behind you!
Sora felt a bad premonition surging in his heart, immediately knowing things were about to go south.
Sure enough.
The math teacher took another sip of his goji berry tea, then looked towards Sora, speaking unhurriedly:
"Izumi-kun, you come up and solve the problem."
"..."
The gossiping classmates in the classroom erupted in laughter again, the cheerful atmosphere growing even stronger.
Sora remained expressionless. He silently got up, walked to the podium, and cleanly solved the problem in a few swift strokes.
"Alright, everyone sit down." The math teacher pushed up the glasses on his nose.
"Don't sleep during class, pay attention."
"..."
The class passed in a flash.
In the blink of an eye, it was time for the break.
"Sora, what on earth was that middle-aged uncle talking about?" Yamada Elf turned her head, her expression pitiful, her tone resentful.
"From beginning to end, I didn't understand a single word. Is it some kind of encrypted alien language?"
Clearly, when the tide receded, Elf, a fish who had slipped through the net of compulsory education, could no longer fake it.
"I'm more concerned about the next class." Sora sighed, helplessly pressing his fingers against his brow.
"Someone who is bad at math definitely won't be able to learn physics."
Yamada Elf tilted her head: "What subject is physics?"
Sora: "..."
Say no more. If you keep talking, my blood pressure will explode!
The third period soon began.
Physics class.
The difficulty of high school physics and middle school physics are completely on different levels. Someone who was good at middle school physics might very well be completely lost in high school.
For example, Anna.
'Inmate Eight' appeared to be sitting upright and listening attentively, but a closer look revealed that her focus scattered from time to time; she was clearly zoning out and daydreaming.
Elf needed even less explanation.
Friction, gravity, acceleration, classical mechanics... It had truly become a book from heaven to her; she couldn't understand a single word.
The physics class passed quietly in dullness.
Clatter.
Yamada Elf pushed back her chair and abruptly stood up. She turned to look at Sora, placing her hands on his desk:
"Sora, let's go together!"
"What?"
Sora looked over in confusion.
"Let's..." Yamada Elf took a deep breath.
"...Let's skip class together, okay?"
Half the day isn't even over and you want to skip class, aren't you way too fragile!
"I don't understand, I completely don't understand. If I keep listening, my brain is going to break." Yamada Elf spoke with absolute conviction.
"So let's skip class together! Skipping class is also an indispensable experience in life!"
You clearly just want to play truant, don't use 'indispensable' as an excuse!
Smack.
A hand pressed down on Elf's shoulder. Anna had walked over at some point and sighed softly:
"I can totally relate to Elf's pain because I don't understand physics either. But let's forget about skipping class. The school gate is locked, we can't get out."
Sora interlaced his fingers, resting his chin on them: "Hold on a bit longer. The next class is geography, it'll be much easier."
"That's right, the geography teacher is very nice, and his classes are relaxed and humorous." Anna nodded in agreement.
"After geography, it's lunch break. Then everyone can go to the cafeteria to eat together. The cafeteria has a lot of delicious food, Elf definitely can't miss it."
