Diana didn't like the silence.
Not this kind.
Victor hadn't said anything since Adriana left.
Not an explanation.
Not a warning.
Nothing.
And somehow…
That annoyed her more than anything Adriana had said.
"You're not going to explain?" she asked finally.
Victor adjusted his cuff calmly. "There's nothing to explain."
Diana let out a short laugh. "A woman walks into your house, talks like she owns history with you, and that's nothing?"
Victor looked at her.
Steady.
Unmoved.
"Yes."
Her jaw tightened.
"You're unbelievable."
"And you're reacting," he replied.
That did it.
"Of course I'm reacting," she snapped. "You expect me to just stand there while some woman—"
"Some woman?" Victor cut in.
His tone dropped slightly.
"She's not 'some woman.'"
Silence.
Sharp.
Diana felt it.
That shift.
That line he just drew.
"Then what is she?" she asked quietly.
Victor held her gaze.
For a moment…
Too long.
"Someone important."
The words hit harder than they should have.
Diana looked away first.
She refused to let him see that.
"Good," she said, her voice controlled again. "Then she won't mind staying out of my way."
Victor didn't respond.
And that silence
Felt like disagreement.
Before she could say anything else
"Still pretending you're not affected?"
Diana turned.
Adriana.
Of course.
She hadn't left.
She stood near the entrance, completely at ease.
Like this was her space.
"I was wondering how long it would take," Adriana continued, stepping closer. "You hide it well… but not perfectly."
Diana crossed her arms. "You seem very interested in me."
"I am."
No hesitation.
"Why?" Diana asked.
Adriana stopped in front of her.
Close enough to feel the challenge.
"Because you're standing in a position most women couldn't survive in."
Diana didn't blink. "And you think I can't?"
Adriana smiled slightly. "I think you don't understand what you stepped into."
Victor's voice came in, low and controlled.
"That's enough, Adriana."
She didn't even look at him.
"Is it?" she replied. "Or are you just uncomfortable?"
Silence.
Diana's gaze shifted between them.
Something was off.
"You're overstepping," Victor said.
Adriana finally turned to him.
And for the first time
Her expression sharpened.
"No," she said softly. "I'm reminding you."
That wasn't for Diana.
That was for him.
And Diana felt it.
"Reminding you of what?" she asked.
Adriana's eyes slid back to hers.
Slow.
Calculated.
"Of how he is when he actually wants something."
Diana's breath caught.
"He doesn't hesitate," Adriana continued. "He doesn't pull back."
A pause.
Then
"He doesn't stop."
Diana's mind flashed
To last night.
To his hand.
Stopping mid-air.
Her chest tightened.
Adriana saw it.
Of course she did.
"And yet…" she said softly, "he stops with you."
That one
Cut deep.
Diana's pride snapped instantly.
"Maybe that's because I don't chase what isn't worth it," she fired back.
Adriana's smile widened slightly.
"Or," she said, "because he doesn't want you enough."
Silence.
Heavy.
Brutal.
Diana felt it.
That hit.
That doubt creeping in
And then
"Careful."
Victor's voice.
Low.
Dangerous.
Both women went still.
Victor stepped forward.
This time
There was no distance.
No calm politeness.
Just control.
"That's where you stop," he said.
Adriana held his gaze.
Unflinching.
"For her?" she asked quietly.
Victor didn't hesitate.
"Yes."
The word landed like a shockwave.
Diana froze.
Adriana went still for just a second.
Just a second
But it was enough.
Then she smiled.
Slow.
Knowing.
"There it is," she said softly.
Victor didn't look away.
"Don't confuse boundaries with weakness," he added.
Adriana tilted her head slightly.
"Then don't pretend this is nothing."
Silence.
Tension snapped tight between them.
Then
Adriana stepped back.
"Now I've seen enough," she said.
Her gaze lingered on Diana.
"Try not to break too easily."
And just like that—
She walked out.
This time
She didn't come back.
Silence filled the room.
But it wasn't empty.
It was loud.
With everything left unsaid.
Diana turned slowly to Victor.
"You said she was just someone from your past."
Victor didn't answer immediately.
"Was I wrong?" she pressed.
He met her gaze.
And this time
There was no deflection.
"No."
A pause.
Then
"But she's also someone who knows exactly how far I can go."
Diana's heart tightened.
"And how far is that?" she asked.
Victor stepped closer.
Again.
Always closing the distance.
"Far enough to ruin anything I don't control."
Her breath caught.
"And me?" she whispered.
Victor's gaze darkened.
"That depends," he said quietly.
"On what?"
A pause.
Then
"On whether you become something I can't let go of."
Silence.
And just like that
The line between them blurred again.
But this time
It wasn't just tension.
It was dangerous.
