Chapter 2 - The Idle Goddess

Veydran sat in a lone empty corner of the Adventurer's Guild grumbling to himself in frustration as the weapons continued to rattle.

"You four just don't understand what it means to shut up," he muttered to himself.

"It's not that we don't understand, it's just that we don't care for your commands," Aezila commented.

"...It's not too late to sell you guys to the nearest black market is it?"

A sudden voice rang out causing everything to come to a complete hush.

"Oh, it's far too late for that now."

Veydran let out a loud sigh, "Why now?"

"That's not how a mortal should greet a Goddess. Normally you're supposed to get on your knees and bow."

"There's nothing Goddess like about you!"

As time froze around Veydran a figure of a woman began to appear in the center of the Guild. Her bed hair was golden and white, eyes grey as shiny metal, and wore a long yellow jacket that stopped just before her knees.

"...Sure there is."

"Yeah? Then please explain what they are."

"Would you like for me to demonstrate it on you?"

Within an instant Veydran gets on his knees and bows. "Thanks for blessing me with your presence!"

"That's more like it," She chuckled to herself as she sat crossed legged on an invisible throne.

Suddenly Lysandra materializes right next to Veydran in the same position.

"Thank you for blessing us with your presence. Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Oh? Uh… could go for something to eat right about now?"

Lysandra stood up quickly with her head held high like a soldier, "I will fetch you the best quality food this town has." Before the Goddess could get a word in, Lysandra burst out through the door leaving a trail of dust.

"...I didn't even get to tell her what I wanted."

"I really don't get what's so special about Gods. They're just humans who live in the heavens. They're nothing special, especially this one," Zisna remarked, pointing at the Goddess.

Miriella materialized as well standing right next to Zisna, analyzing the Goddess.

"...Ah, you must be Aeris the Idle Goddess."

"That would be me," Aeris replied with a yawn.

"Hah?! She's a Goddess just for being lazy!" Zisna shouted.

"...I never knew you had a kid, Veydran."

Silence.

Both Veydran and Miriella took multiple steps away from Zisna as the temp of the Guild started to rise.

"LET'S SEE IF THIS SO CALLED GODDESS CAN SURVIVE A WITH HER HEAD MISSING FROM HER SHOULDERS." She roared as she summoned her sword to hands.

As Zisna leapt at Aeris with incredible speed, Aeris lifted her arm and stuck out her hand from her jacket sleeve.

Aeris flicked her finger.

A single effortless motion.

Zisna vanished.

A heartbeat later—

BOOM!!

The Guild wall exploded outward, then another and another.

Silence followed.

Miriella immediately got into the same bowing position that Veydran was in earlier.

"Ugh… that was exhausting."

"All you did was flick a finger!"

"Holding back my power is a lot of work, you know. It's not as easy as it looks," she said, wiping away imaginary sweat.

"Goddess Aeris,I have brought you a meal worthy of being eaten by you." Lysandra called out carrying a plate full of food she might have or not have stolen from some lord's mansion and an unconscious Zisna.

"And Goddess Aeris if you don't mind me, asking may I inquire the reason for your descent?"

With food in her mouth she just let out muffled sounds as she pointed at Veydran.

Lysandra gazed at Veydran with astonishment.

"I can't believe I was traveling alongside someone worthy enough for a Goddess to have an audience with them."

"Could it be that someone pathetic as Veydran is actually one of the heroes of this time?" Miriella added.

"No he's nothing like that. Veydran just has a contract with her to preserve his life because of us." Aezila explained as she materialized finally.

Veydran and Aeris looked at Aezila in surprise.

"I'm the daughter of the former demon queen, a Goddess should know time magic wouldn't affect me as easily."

"Shouldn't you known who you were guarding?" She added.

Aeris shrugged, "I only knew I had to guard some ego weapons."

"We're constantly with Veydran so when did he ever have the chance to meet her?" Miriella asked.

"The same day when he released us from our confinement, Aeris descended and forced him under a contract." Aezila answered.

"What were the details of the contract?" Lysandra asked.

"It was that—"

Clap.

The sound snapped through the frozen world like a command.

"Let's not talk about that anymore," Aeris said lightly, but her eyes weren't playful anymore.

Aezila didn't bother aruging and backed off.

Lysandra started bowing once again, "Please forgive me Goddess Aeris. I didn't realize that you didn't want such things discussed."

"Anyway, Veydran, I need you to make your way to Elsandra," Aeris asked, while biting into an apple.

"You're not going to explain why?"

"You'll figure it out soon as you arrive there."

"That's not helpful."

"It's very helpful. You just haven't realized it yet."

"She's really living it up to her title." Miriella commented.

Aezila nodded in agreement.

Aeris stood up with her plate of food yawning, "Well I should get going, can't freeze time forever."

"Also remember Veydran any abandonment of the weapons leads to immediate termination of contract, sooo try your best to keep hold of them."

With her final warning her body dispersed into little balls of light that fades away.

Later on a carriage—

"NEXT TIME I SEE HER I'LL CUT HER INTO TINY PIECES!!" Zisna Declared.

Miriella covered her ears, "Do you always have to yell?"

"Didn't she launch you through multiple buildings leaving you unconscious, with just a flick of her finger? So how do you pla—"

"I'LL FIGURE IT OUT AEZILA!!"

Lysandra peeks her head out to the front where Veydran was handling the horses.

"Veydran? Why didn't you inform us that you were under contract with a goddess."

"...Becasue every time she showed up, you guys were frozen."

"Ah."

"Also," he added, "I think she didn't want you guys to know. Although I'm not sure why she didn't do it this time."

"Maybe she figured it was too much work." Aezila pointed out.

Everyone nodded in agreement.

"So…where are we going?" Zisna asked, after finally calming down.

"We're going to Elsandra," Veydran answered.

"Isn't that the human country with those weird buildings?"

Veydran glanced back.

"…You mean cities?"

"Wow you're old," he added.

The sound of a sword being drawn filled the carriage.

Veydran couldn't do anything but accept his fate as Zisna yanked him into the back.
