Chapter 5 - The Shitty Price of Survival

Hikaru stared at the massive wolf. Woah ,What the flinging pork belly is this thing, he thought to himself . It was huge compared to the ones you see in the zoo or discovery channel . But it moved with a strange, clumsy confidence ,as if it hadn't faced a real challenge in a long time. Maybe its still young, who know , Hikaru sighed to himself.

On pure instinct before he could think of anything , Hikaru threw his spear at the wolf . It hit the wolf's left arm with a dull thud and fell to the ground. It didn't even leave a dent.

A hint of panic starts to set in. How am I supposed to kill that damn thing? he thought. He looked around wildly, his mind racing. Amidst the tension all he could think was about staying alive. The wolf's thick hide acted like natural armor. He grabbed a heavy stone and hurled it at the wolf's head will full strength, but the beast was already charging. The stone clipped its ear, but it didn't slow down.

Hikaru turned and ran.Oh my god , am i dying here today he shouted in fear while he led the wolf in a desperate circle through the trees. Suddenly, a rabbit monster hopped into the path. The rabbit, irritable and territorial, lashed out in a fit of rage. Out of all favourable outcome hikaru wanted , luck really played by his side . The rabbit monster lunged at the wolf, biting and scratching.

The two monsters began to tear at each other. Hikaru scrambled back, "Haiyahh... saved by a inch ,thank you bunny" he muttered gasping for air, when he spotted his wooden sword lying in the dirt nearby. He lunged for it, but by the time his fingers closed around the grip, the wolf had already crushed the rabbit.

The wolf turned back to Hikaru, blood dripping from its jaws. It attacked with a flurry of heavy paws and snapping teeth. Hikaru danced back, his feet moving in a blur as he dodged every swipe. The wolf was relentless, pushing him further and further back until Hikaru realized where he was. He had reached the spot where the fight first began.

The spear was right there.

The wolf grew angrier, its breaths coming in ragged snarls. As it prepared for a massive leap, Hikaru acted on instinct. He kicked a cloud of dry dirt and dust directly into the wolf's eyes.

The beast yelped, shaking its head to clear its blurry vision. Hikaru grabbed the spear with his free hand. He realized that piercing the thick hide from the outside was impossible. He needed a way into the soft vitals. He thought about the mouth, but the wolf's paws were too dangerous.

Then, a desperate idea hit him. There was only one other opening.

The wolf lunged with everything it had. Hikaru dived to the side, and the wolf's momentum sent it crashing face ,first into a thick, thorny bush. The sharp thorns acted like a trap, tangling in the wolf's fur.

Without a hint of shame and adrenaline rush, Hikaru took his chance. He stepped behind the trapped beast and drove the spear with all his might into the only unprotected spot: the wolf's glory hole for nature call.

The wolf let out a high-pitched scream of pure agony. It tried to move, but the pain of the thorns and the spear held it in place. One could say ,Hikaru didn't stop. It ain't right but i guess that's how it is ,he muttered to himself shamelessly .He picked up a large, jagged stone and began smashing it against the wolf's head.

One hit. Nope that's not going to do much damage . Two hits. The wolf finally went still after a shallow howl .

Hikaru's legs gave out. He collapsed onto the forest floor, laying flat on his back. Man, i really need to do something about my stamina, he whispered .He had won, but only by a thin margin. Suddenly, a warm, golden flow moved through his veins. It was like a level up. The exhaustion in his limbs began to melt away, replaced by a tingling heat.

On his wrist, an intricate, holy tattoo design begins to form with soft yellow-issh glow but it fades after some seconds. A surge of energy exploded within him. His senses sharpened. " Am I dreaming or something happen ,huh what is happening ? he muttered to himself . His frame filled out, his muscles growing stronger in seconds. But the rush was too much. His vision slowly begins to blur and Hikaru fainted on the spot.

When Hikaru finally opened his eyes, the sun was dipping below the horizon. The forest was bathed in deep purple shadows. He sat up quickly, rubbing his face.

"Great," he muttered. "Oh shit , i just sleep the day huh. Huwaaaaah....!!!! I should get back to my place before it runs out of light ."

He looked at the mark on his wrist, then checked his surroundings. He needed to get back before the real night-predators came out. As he navigated the path back to his shelter, he talked to himself to break the silence. "First a giant wolf, then a magic tattoo. Man if my old friends could see me now, they'd think I'd lost my mind. I might be going crazy huh.."

He reached his shelter just as the light faded. He quickly gathered wood and started a small fire. He took some meat he had scavenged, skewered it on a stick, and roasted it over the low flame.

"I guess this is my life now," he muttered, staring into the flickering orange flames.

After eating, he wrapped the leftovers in a large leaf and hid them away. Covered in the grime of battle, he headed to the river to bathe. When he reached the bank, nature called in another way. He found a quiet spot near the water's edge and squatted down to relieve himself.

But just as he was about to relax, a rustle came from the tall grass. Hikaru froze. From the darkness, a pair of red glowing eyes appeared. A rabbit monster stepped out, its sharp teeth bared. It looked straight at him, completely unimpressed by his vulnerable position.

Hikaru's face turned red with frustration. "You have got to be kidding me," he hissed. "Can't a guy even go to the bathroom in peace?"
