Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Living Imagination

Sunlight slanted over the barn's sloped roof, gilding the dust swirling above the delivery trucks pulling away down the lane. Kevin rested his forearms on the split-rail fence, watching the last of the transport vans vanish over the hill. The contract had been signed before dawn yesterday; every cow, pig, sheep, and chicken was already settled at their new destination. Only the horses remained, held in the drafty empty warehouse at the farm's edge, a temporary shelter until he could get proper stables built.

Melisha stepped up beside him, brushing hay from her sleeve. "Everything's cleared out. I've got three people in mind to head up the animal care team... folks I trust with livestock and sensitive stock alike but I need your final decision."

Kevin nodded slowly, then glanced over his shoulder toward the farmhouse. "Yeah about that… I have someone in mind to help run things. You'll meet them later."

He turned and headed back inside, down the hall to his office, and lifted a plain wooden box from the shelf beside his desk. Inside lay the familiar shapes of Toy Story figures he'd pulled from the system days before. He carried the box to the empty warehouse space, set it on the concrete floor, and carefully unwrapped each piece, Bo Peep with her crook, Jessie standing tall, and the the horse Bullseye and Bo's faithful sheep.

He set them side by side, then leaned down, voice quiet but clear. "I know you guys move and talk. I heard you whispering when I was sleeping."

The toys stayed perfectly still, painted eyes staring blankly ahead. Kevin huffed a small laugh. "Well even if you're not going to move now… you will after I do this."

He raised his right hand, and a low hum filled the air, warm, bright, thrumming and channeled the Toon Force inside him, activating the new ability.

"Living Imagination."

Deep violet light spilled from his palm, streaking outward like shooting stars, wrapping soft and heavy around all four figures.

For a heartbeat there was silence then a sharp, startled gasp.

Bullseye's plastic hooves twitched, lengthening into real, solid legs. Bo's sheep burst from their painted fixed poses, wool rippling thick and soft. Jessie's stiff plastic arms stretched, her cowboy outfit softening into worn denim and leather. Bo Peep's smooth porcelain features shifted into warm, living skin, her bonnet settling over real hair.

"W-What is happening?!" Jessie cried out, stumbling as her balance adjusted to new height and weight. Bullseye neighed loudly in confusion while the three headed sheep baaed in alarm.

The glow faded after a minute. Where small toys had stood, now stood two young women and two full-grown animals, breathing hard, staring down at their own hands and coats like they didn't belong to them.

Kevin smiled. "Well looks like you're moving at last."

All four froze instantly, falling back into the rigid stillness of toys on display. Kevin sighed.

"I see you all move so don't pretend to be a toy, much more you are now human and real," he said gently.

At that, Jessie's shoulders slumped. She flexed her fingers, grabbed the cuff of her sleeve, and spun to face him, eyes wide and sharp with confusion. "What did you do to us?! Why do I feel… different? Why does the air feel like something I can breathe?"

Bo Peep stepped forward, one hand hovering over her own chest, as if checking for a heartbeat. "Everything's so big. So… bright and my sheep. They're not little figures anymore. They're… alive." She looked at her sheep, who nudged at her hands with soft noses, and her voice wavered. "We're not toys anymore, are we?"

"Like I said, you two are now a human" Kevin raised his hands gently. "I used an ability called Living Imagination. It turns inanimate objects into real, living beings. You're no longer just objects that can be discarded or left on a shelf. You can think, feel, eat, and you can choose where you go, what you do and who you want to be."

The sheep whinnied softly, shifting his weight, and Bo peep reached out to stroke his neck, her expression still torn. "Choose? But… this isn't right. We're toys. We belong with kids."

Jessie crossed her arms. "This is crazy! What if we don't want to be human? What if we just want to go back to being toys?"

"I get it. This is a huge change but I won't force this on you How about this " Kevin said. "How about this, stay here, live as yourselves for a week. See what you can do, what it feels like to walk where you want, talk to who you want. If after that you still want to go back to being toys… I'll reverse it. No questions asked."

The four of them looked at each other, thinking it over. Finally, Jessie spoke for the group. "Fine… a few days. But if we hate it, you turn us back."

"Deal," Kevin said with a smile.

"Now, since we have our dear animal friends here," he gestured to Bullseye and the three headed sheep, "let's get them settled with their own kind first. Then I'll show you to your rooms."

Kevin led them out of the office and toward the barn area. The living toys were amazed by the size of the farm. Jessie ran her hand along a real horse's mane. "This feels so different when you're this size!"
