The "GRAND OPENING" banner fluttered in the breeze as the first wave of curious customers began trickling into Krusty Krab. Kevin stood near the boat-shaped order counter in his sailor uniform, heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves. This was it, the first real test of his dream.
SpongeBob was already bouncing behind the grill, Colette moved with focused precision at the prep station, and Squidward stood at the register looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. Margaret was the only waitress on the floor today, and Kevin had stepped up to work as a waiter alongside her.
The doors had only been open for an hour, but word was spreading fast.
"Order up!" SpongeBob called cheerfully as he slid two Krabby Patties onto the pass window.
Squidward took the next order with his usual monotone drawl. "Welcome to the Krusty Krab. What can I get you?"
A group of four toon raccoons stepped up, eyes wide at the menu board. "Four Krabby Patties, two orders of Chum Sticks, and a large kelp shake!"
Squidward punched it in. "That'll be 28 dollars."
Margaret moved quickly, her red-and-white feathers fluffing with nervous energy. She grabbed the numbered stick, delivered the tray to the table with a bright smile, and said, "Here you go! Enjoy your meal. Let me know if you need anything else!"
Kevin noticed her hands were shaking a little as she balanced the heavy tray. He stepped in smoothly beside her.
"You're doing great, Margaret," he said quietly. "Just keep smiling and move at your own pace. If anything feels too heavy, wave me over. I've got your back today."
Margaret nodded gratefully. "Thank you, sir."
A few minutes later, a family of five toons entered, two adults and three energetic kids. Kevin jumped in to help Margaret take their order while Squidward handled the register.
"Three Krabby Patties, one Fish & Chips, two orders of onion rings, and three milkshakes," Kevin relayed clearly to the kitchen.
In the back, the kitchen was already humming.
Colette worked with calm efficiency, her French accent cutting through the noise. "SpongeBob, two more patties on the grill, medium-well! I need the seaweed buns toasted!"
"On it, Colette!" SpongeBob flipped the patties with expert flair, humming happily as he assembled the exact order: bottom bun, patty, sea lettuce, sea cheese, sea onion, sea tomato, sea ketchup, sea mustard, sea pickles, top bun. He slid the finished Krabby Patties through the window with a proud "Order up!"
Colette handled the more complex items, carefully frying Chum Sticks until golden and crispy while keeping an eye on the Krusty Krab Pizza in the oven.
"The secret is in the timing," she told SpongeBob as she worked. "Not too long, or the chum becomes rubbery."
Squidward, despite his complaints, was surprisingly efficient at the counter. "Next!" he called, ringing up another order of Krabby Patties and fries for a pair of excited weasel toons.
The restaurant was filling up steadily. More customers poured in, a group of office workers, a couple on a date, even a few curious toons who had heard rumors about the food being served here.
Kevin moved between front and back, helping wherever needed. When Margaret struggled to carry a large tray with four drinks and two baskets of fries, he stepped in immediately, taking half the load.
"Nice and steady," he coached gently.
Margaret gave him a thankful look and delivered the food with growing confidence.
At 11:45 AM, the door opened again and a familiar group walked in. Holli leading the way, followed by several staff members from the Ink & Paint Club, including Betty Boop and Lonette.
Holli's eyes lit up the moment she saw Kevin in his sailor uniform. "Look at you, my handsome sailor," she teased, sauntering over to the counter. "The whole club is here to support you, baby."
Betty Boop bounced on her heels, her classic red dress swishing. "This place is so cute! I want the biggest Krabby Patty you have!"
Lonette smiled warmly. "Smells amazing in here already."
Kevin grinned. "Perfect timing. Margaret, take care of Holli's table, best service we've got."
Margaret nodded and led the group to a large steering-wheel table near the window. She took their orders professionally, writing everything down and repeating it back to make sure she got it right. Kevin stayed close, quietly helping when she needed to balance multiple drinks.
In the kitchen, the pace had picked up.
"Three Krabby Patties, two Krusty Krab Pizzas, one order of Chum Sticks!" Squidward called through the window.
SpongeBob was in his element, flipping patties rapidly while singing a little tune. Colette worked beside him, assembling the pizzas with precise toppings and checking the fries in the fryer.
"The patties are perfect, SpongeBob," Colette praised as she slid a finished Krusty Krab Pizza onto a tray. "Now the Chum Sticks, golden, not too dark."
Kevin poked his head in occasionally to help plate orders and keep the flow smooth. "Looking good back here. Keep it up!"
By early afternoon the restaurant was buzzing. Tables were mostly full, laughter and satisfied moans filled the air as customers devoured their food. The Bear trio from earlier had already ordered seconds, clearly hooked on the taste.
Holli caught Kevin's eye from her table and gave him a proud, sultry wink. Betty and Lonette were happily chatting while enjoying their meals.
Kevin allowed himself a moment of satisfaction as he wiped down a table. The Krusty Krab was alive.
