Chapter 3: Lost in My Own Mind

The human mind is a powerful place.

It can build dreams.

It can create hope.

It can push you to achieve things you never imagined.

But at the same time…

It can destroy you.

Silently. Slowly. Completely.

---

For Arjun, the real battle had just begun.

Not outside.

But inside his own head.

---

After breaking the silence, things didn't magically improve.

There was no sudden happiness.

No instant clarity.

No perfect plan.

There was only awareness.

And sometimes… awareness hurts more than ignorance.

---

The next morning, Arjun woke up with a strange heaviness.

Not physical.

Mental.

It felt like his mind had been running all night, even though his body had barely moved.

He sat up, rubbed his eyes, and took a deep breath.

"Today will be better," he told himself.

But his mind responded instantly:

"Really? How?"

---

That was new.

Earlier, his thoughts were confusing but distant.

Now, they were clear.

Sharp.

And uncomfortable.

---

He got out of bed and tried to follow a simple routine.

Brush. Tea. Fresh air.

Basic things.

But even the smallest actions felt… meaningless.

"What's the point?" his mind whispered.

---

He tried to ignore it.

But thoughts don't disappear just because you want them to.

They grow.

---

By afternoon, Arjun found himself sitting alone again.

Same room. Same walls. Same silence.

But this time, something was different.

His mind wouldn't stay quiet.

---

It started with a simple thought:

"You should be doing something."

---

Then another:

"Everyone else is moving forward."

---

And then:

"You're falling behind."

---

Within minutes, his mind turned into a battlefield.

---

"What if I never recover?"

"What if I stay like this forever?"

"What if people start judging me?"

"What if I disappoint my family?"

---

The thoughts didn't wait for answers.

They attacked one after another.

Relentless.

---

Arjun held his head, trying to stop them.

"Just stop… please," he whispered.

But his mind didn't listen.

---

Because the truth is—

Your mind doesn't always work for you.

Sometimes, it works against you.

---

He stood up and started pacing the room.

Back and forth.

Again and again.

As if movement could silence his thoughts.

---

But wherever he went…

His mind followed.

---

He picked up his phone.

Opened social media.

Scrolled.

---

Big mistake.

---

Photos of success.

People smiling.

Friends achieving things.

New jobs. New opportunities. Happy moments.

---

Arjun's chest tightened.

"Look at them…" his mind said.

"They're doing something with their life."

"And you?"

---

He threw the phone on the bed.

"I don't need this," he said.

But the damage was done.

---

Comparison.

One of the most dangerous traps of the mind.

---

Because it doesn't just show you others' success…

It makes you question your own worth.

---

Arjun sat down again.

This time, the thoughts were heavier.

More personal.

---

"Maybe I wasn't good enough."

"Maybe I got lucky before."

"Maybe this is the real me."

---

Each sentence felt like a blow.

---

And slowly…

He started believing them.

---

That's how the mind works.

It repeats something so many times…

that it starts feeling like truth.

---

Even when it's not.

---

By evening, Arjun felt exhausted.

Not from work.

But from thinking.

---

He lay down and closed his eyes.

But his mind didn't stop.

---

It replayed everything.

The meeting.

The words.

The expressions.

The moment he walked out.

---

Again and again.

Like a loop he couldn't escape.

---

"What if I had done things differently?"

"What if I had worked harder?"

"What if I had seen it coming?"

---

Regret joined the battle.

---

And regret is dangerous.

Because it keeps you stuck in a past you can't change.

---

Hours passed.

Darkness filled the room.

But inside Arjun's mind…

There was no darkness.

Only noise.

---

At some point, he sat up and looked around.

The room felt smaller.

The walls felt closer.

The air felt heavier.

---

"I can't breathe," he said softly.

---

He walked to the window and opened it.

Fresh air rushed in.

But the heaviness inside him didn't leave.

---

Because the problem wasn't outside.

It was within.

---

And that's when he realized something.

---

"I'm not fighting the world…"

"I'm fighting myself."

---

That thought hit differently.

---

Because how do you win a battle…

when the opponent is your own mind?

---

For a long time, he stood there, thinking.

Not overthinking.

Just… observing.

---

And slowly, a realization began to form.

---

"What if my thoughts are not facts?"

---

It was a simple idea.

But powerful.

---

"What if just because I think I'm not good enough…"

"Doesn't mean it's true?"

---

For the first time, Arjun questioned his own thoughts.

---

Not everything.

Just one.

---

"Maybe I'm not a failure…"

---

His mind responded quickly:

"Then why did you lose your job?"

---

Arjun paused.

Took a breath.

And replied quietly:

"Maybe… because things didn't work out."

"Not because I'm useless."

---

It wasn't a strong argument.

It wasn't perfect.

But it was something.

---

A small resistance.

---

And that's where change begins.

---

Not by winning immediately.

But by refusing to lose completely.

---

That night, Arjun picked up his notebook again.

---

He wrote:

"My mind is not always right."

---

He stared at the sentence.

Read it again.

And again.

---

It felt strange.

But also… freeing.

---

He continued writing:

"I am not my thoughts."

"I am not my failures."

"I am not what I lost."

---

Each line felt like a step forward.

Small.

But real.

---

For the first time in days, his mind slowed down.

---

Not silent.

But calmer.

---

Because instead of blindly believing every thought…

He was starting to question them.

---

And that changed everything.

---

Before sleeping, he looked at the ceiling once again.

Just like the previous nights.

---

But this time…

There was a difference.

---

The fear was still there.

The uncertainty was still there.

The problems were still there.

---

But now…

There was also awareness.

---

And a small sense of control.

---

He whispered to himself:

"I may be lost…"

"But I'm still here."

---

And sometimes…

That's enough.

---

Because being lost doesn't mean you're finished.

It just means…

You haven't found your way yet.

---

And finding your way…

starts with understanding your own mind.

---

Because the biggest battles are not fought outside.

They are fought within.

---

And Arjun had finally stepped into that battlefield.

---

Not to run.

Not to hide.

But to fight.

---

Slowly.

Patiently.

One thought at a time.

---

Because deep down…

Even in the chaos of his mind…

A quiet truth was beginning to rise—

---

He was not broken.

He was just… rebuilding.

---

And no matter how lost he felt right now…

He knew one thing for sure—

---

He would find his way back.

---

No matter what.
