Chapter 11 - Someone Finally Notices

The scariest moment isn't when you're alone… it's when someone finally sees the truth you've been hiding.

The next morning didn't feel like a fresh start.

It didn't feel lighter.

It didn't feel better.

It just felt… normal again.

But not the kind of normal people talk about.

The kind of normal where everything looks fine on the outside…

But inside, nothing has really changed.

I woke up slowly, staring at the ceiling for a few seconds.

My body felt tired.

My mind felt even more tired.

Like it had been running all night without stopping.

The memories of yesterday were still there.

The breakdown.

The silence.

The feeling of everything falling apart.

But just like always…

I pushed it down.

I didn't want to think about it.

I didn't want to feel it again.

So I got up.

Got ready.

And acted like nothing had happened.

Because that's what I always did.

Pretend.

Hide.

Move on.

When I reached school, everything looked the same.

Students walking around.

Talking.

Laughing.

Living their lives like nothing was wrong.

And I walked through it all…

Feeling like I didn't belong there.

Like I was just passing through.

Not really a part of anything.

I sat in my usual place.

Quiet.

Still.

Invisible.

That was the easiest way to exist.

If no one noticed you…

No one could ask questions.

And if no one asked questions…

You didn't have to answer.

And if you didn't have to answer…

You didn't have to explain anything.

It was simple.

Or at least… it used to be.

Because today…

Something felt different.

At first, I didn't understand what it was.

It was just a small feeling.

Like someone was watching.

Not in a strange way.

But in a way that felt intentional.

I ignored it at first.

Thinking it was just my imagination.

But the feeling didn't go away.

It stayed.

Quiet.

But clear.

After a few minutes, I finally looked up.

And for a second…

Our eyes met.

I quickly looked away.

My heart beating slightly faster.

Not because I was scared.

But because it felt unexpected.

Why were they looking at me like that?

I didn't understand.

I tried to ignore it.

Tried to focus on class.

But I couldn't.

Because that feeling stayed in my mind.

Because it didn't feel like a coincidence.

During the break, I went to my usual corner.

That quiet place where I could sit without being disturbed.

Where I didn't have to pretend.

Where I could just exist.

I sat down.

Looking at the ground.

Lost in my thoughts again.

But this time…

I wasn't alone for long.

"Hey."

I looked up.

They were standing there.

The same person from class.

The one who kept looking at me.

I didn't say anything at first.

I just looked at them.

Confused.

"Can I sit?" they asked.

I hesitated.

Not because I wanted to say no.

But because I wasn't used to this.

I wasn't used to someone coming up to me like this.

Still…

I nodded slightly.

"Yeah."

They sat beside me.

There was silence for a few seconds.

But it didn't feel like my usual silence.

This one felt different.

Like something was about to be said.

"You don't talk much, do you?" they said.

I shrugged slightly.

"Not really."

They nodded.

"I noticed."

That word made me pause.

"Noticed?"

"Yeah," they said.

"You're always quiet."

"You don't really sit with anyone."

"You don't laugh much either."

I didn't respond.

Because they were right.

But hearing it from someone else…

Felt strange.

Uncomfortable.

"I'm just like that," I said.

They looked at me for a moment.

Carefully.

Like they were trying to understand something deeper.

"No," they said softly.

"That's not it."

I frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"You're not just quiet," they said.

"You're holding something back."

That sentence hit harder than I expected.

Because it was true.

Because it was exactly what I had been doing.

But I didn't expect anyone to see it.

I didn't expect anyone to say it out loud.

"I'm fine," I said quickly.

Too quickly.

Almost like I was trying to convince myself.

They didn't respond immediately.

They just looked at me.

And somehow…

That silence felt louder than any question.

"You don't have to pretend," they said gently.

My hands tightened slightly.

"I'm not pretending."

But even as I said it…

It didn't sound convincing.

They didn't argue.

They didn't push.

They just nodded.

"Okay."

But the way they said it…

It didn't feel like they believed me.

And that made it harder.

Because I didn't know why it mattered.

I didn't know why I cared.

But I did.

We sat there quietly again.

But this silence wasn't the same.

It didn't feel safe.

It felt… exposed.

Like everything I had been hiding…

Was somehow visible.

After a few minutes, they spoke again.

"You looked really tired today," they said.

I didn't respond.

"You looked like you didn't sleep."

Still nothing.

"And yesterday…" they paused.

"You looked like you were about to cry."

That made me look up immediately.

"Why are you saying all this?" I asked.

My voice wasn't angry.

But it wasn't calm either.

They met my eyes.

"Because I noticed."

That word again.

Noticed.

It felt strange.

Because I had spent so long making sure no one noticed.

And now…

Someone did.

"You don't even know me," I said.

They nodded.

"Yeah."

"But I can still tell when someone isn't okay."

I didn't have a response.

Because I didn't know what to say.

Because I didn't have an explanation.

Because everything inside me felt exposed.

And I wasn't used to that feeling.

"I'm fine," I said again.

But this time…

It sounded weaker.

They didn't argue.

They didn't force anything.

They just stood up slowly.

"I won't make you talk," they said.

"But you don't have to go through everything alone."

That sentence stayed.

Because no one had said that to me before.

Because I wasn't used to hearing something like that.

They started to walk away.

Then stopped for a moment.

Without turning back, they said—

"Even if you don't believe it right now… someone does care."

And then they left.

Just like that.

Leaving me alone again.

But this time…

The silence felt different.

It wasn't empty.

It wasn't heavy.

It was… thoughtful.

Because now…

There was something new in my mind.

A new thought.

A new feeling.

That evening, as I walked home…

My mind wasn't filled with the usual emptiness.

It wasn't completely calm either.

But it wasn't the same.

Because one thought kept repeating—

"Someone noticed."

And that thought…

It scared me.

Because it meant I wasn't invisible anymore.

Because it meant someone could see through me.

But at the same time…

It didn't feel as heavy as before.

Because for the first time…

I wasn't completely alone in my silence.

And maybe…

That was the beginning of something I didn't expect.

Something I wasn't ready for.

But something I couldn't ignore anymore.
