Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Compensatory Spending and the Big Shopping Spree

Ronan took the chance to teach Jeanne about the differences between the various races.

"Look over there," he said, nodding toward a passerby.

"See that boy? He's from the werewolf branch of the beastman race."

Jeanne followed his gaze and saw a fit-looking young man walking past.

The gray wolf ears twitching in his hair and the fluffy tail swaying behind him made his race obvious at a glance.

"Beastman is just a general term," Ronan explained.

"There are many branches within the beastman race, like werewolves, cat people, boar people, rabbit people, tiger people, and so on."

"Depending on the branch, their natural strengths are very different."

"For example, werewolves and cat people are known for their incredible agility. Boar people, tiger people, and cow people have terrifying strength and endurance. The rarer fox people are talented in magic. There are too many to list."

"Compared to us humans, who are more balanced across the board, beastmen have a natural advantage in those areas."

"They have sharp senses and strong bodies. Some individuals even have the potential for Beastification."

"That is why, when gods recruit for their Familia, beastmen are always a popular choice, second only to elves, who are the most sought-after magic race."

"What about us humans?" Jeanne asked curiously.

Ronan let out a helpless sigh.

"Humans? We're average. To put it nicely, we're in the middle. To put it bluntly, we're near the bottom."

"Basically, we're better than some and worse than others. At the very least, we're better off than the Prums."

After talking about beastmen, Ronan gave Jeanne a more detailed explanation of the other races.

For example, elves were specialists in Magic.

As a race that could use magic even before the age of Falna, their natural talent in that area was terrifying. After receiving a Falna, they could awaken their own unique magic and usually had three magic slots. On top of that, they could also learn what people called "Elven Magic" through study.

However, compared to magic granted by a Falna, learned magic was harder to use and less effective.

But... it still worked.

At this point, it was basically an outdated path.

"I told you before about Riveria Ljos Alf, the 'Nine Hell' of the Loki Familia. She's the strongest mage in Orario right now, and she's an elf."

"And she isn't just any elf. She's one of the highest-born among them, true elven royalty."

Jeanne glanced at several elves passing by. Even as a woman herself, she had to admit it.

The beauty and presence of the elves were truly striking.

They had refined features, iconic pointed ears, and tall, slender figures that moved with natural grace.

"Elves... they really are a legendary race. They're beautiful in a way that's hard to ignore," Jeanne said with open admiration.

Ronan looked at her from the side, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.

Just as he expected, Jeanne's opinion of elves matched his own.

Compared to the other races, Ronan liked elves the most. Their combination of elegance, beauty, and power was hard not to like.

Especially since the average appearance of elven women was ridiculously high.

He had already decided in secret that when he built up his Familia in the future, he wanted to recruit plenty of elves.

Walking down the crowded Adventurer Street, one could see groups of well-equipped adventurers everywhere.

This was one of the busiest times of day in Orario.

Adventurers, craftsmen, merchants, and even gods looking for entertainment all gathered here.

Since important places like the Guild Headquarters and the Dian Cecht Pharmacy were nearby, the street was even noisier.

"We're here. Let's go in."

Ronan stopped in front of a large shop.

Jeanne looked up at the sign, which she still could not read. She looked a little awkward for a moment, but followed Ronan inside as if nothing was wrong.

Ronan noticed her slight embarrassment about being unable to read, but kindly chose not to mention it.

He politely declined the help of a shop assistant and led her straight to the daily necessities section.

"Let's start with bedroom things, then we'll pick out toiletries."

And so, the shopping began.

From pillows and blankets to towels and toothbrushes, from plates and bowls to pots and pans, all the way to clothes for every season and small accessories...

The two of them moved between the shelves, buying everything they needed.

During that process, something strange happened. Jeanne, who had been uncomfortable at first, quickly started getting into the rhythm of shopping.

Standing beside her and watching her pick things out with growing enthusiasm, Ronan thought to himself:

It only took her half an hour to go from a complete beginner to someone who looked completely at home doing this.

He was stunned and sighed inwardly.

So shopping really does come naturally to women.

Even the Holy Maiden was no exception.

Then he remembered how he could never resist wanting to plant something whenever he saw an empty patch of land in the yard.

"Heh..."

He shook his head with a knowing smile. Some instincts really were hard to escape, no matter how much a person changed.

"What are you whispering about?"

Jeanne turned around, holding a black velvet bow hairband.

"Quick, look at this for me. What do you think of this hairband?"

Ronan took a look.

The subdued black color and the delicate bow gave it a faint playful charm. It really did suit the small hints of personality Jeanne showed from time to time.

"It's good. It suits you," he said sincerely.

"Then I'll take it."

Jeanne nodded with satisfaction and said to the clerk, "Please wrap this up. Thank you."

After buying the necessary daily goods, clothes, and accessories, they pushed a full cart toward the Fresh Produce Section.

Looking at the mountain of goods in his hands and in the cart, Ronan felt genuinely grateful.

"I don't know which god had the foresight to open a place like The Generalist. Shopping here is so much easier."

Jeanne agreed, still in high spirits.

"Yes, it really is convenient."

"Back in my village, we mostly traded things for other things. Even in the city, we had to go from shop to shop to buy what we needed."

As someone who had already lived through that stage, Ronan understood perfectly.

"But we can't rely only on The Generalist."

"For example, the fresh produce here is high quality and the variety is great, but if you want the freshest food at the best price, the open-air markets are better."

"Especially right before they close at night. There are often discounts that can save you a lot of money."

That was hard-earned experience from the days when he had been short on money.

Saving money had always mattered to him. Discounted items and seasonal bargains were always his first choice.

"That's good to know. I'll remember it," Jeanne said, taking it seriously.

"So, is this enough for today? We've bought most of what we need."

"Yeah, let's go pay."

When they finally walked out of The Generalist, they were buried in shopping bags of every size.

Fortunately, they were both adventurers with a Falna. Their physical ability was far beyond that of ordinary people, so carrying this much was still manageable.

Otherwise, in this summer heat, a normal person would have been exhausted already.

"Let's take these things home first," Ronan said as he planned the rest of the day.

"Then we'll go get your weapon and armor custom-made."

"We also need to restock supplies, especially potions. My own stock is getting low."

"Finally, we'll go to the market and buy fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, milk, spices, and grains."

As adventurers with a Falna, having a huge appetite was only natural.

Combined with intense training and Dungeon exploration, their bodies needed a massive amount of nutrition.

After piling all their purchases at home, the two of them took a short break. They drank some water and rested for half an hour before heading out again.

The Second Sector.

Ronan led Jeanne to their destination, calling out loudly before he even stepped inside.

"Tsubaki! Are you busy? I'm here to bother you again!"

Between friends, there was no need for excessive politeness.

From inside the workshop came Tsubaki's usual response.

"Tch, you've been showing up here a lot lately. Did you finally make some money and decide to spend it?"

"Don't worry. Since we're friends, I'll make sure you're satisfied with both the quality and the price!"
