Chapter 6 - First Fight

Macon had never been in a fight in his entire life and did not have one experience with a real fight while going to school, this is important in establishing what happens next..

The monster jumped at Macon and Macon's body made a decision for him, as his body instinctively went to the left. This was not a very elaborate evasive maneuver, rather he just instinctively fell to his left side as his legs made the choice for him.

The monster missed Macon by approximately one meter when it landed on the porch of the home. The weight of the monster crashing onto the ground made with a noise and the monster's five legs scraped against the pavement.

Macon got off the ground after the monster had landed, his right hand was holding the knife but he could not remember having pulled it out again.

When the monster saw that Macon was now standing, it turned around and charged at him again.

This time the monster charged at Macon much faster than before and Macon was not able to make an elaborate dodge like he did previously. Instead, he took two steps back as the monster came past him and by pure instinct he extended his arm towards the monster with the knife in his hand.

The knife hit something.

After the monster was hit with the knife it let out a growl and retreated backwards; there was black liquid oozing out of a cut in the monster's left flank due to the knife hitting it there.

Macon looked at the knife in his hand.

He had sustained injuries and was currently losing blood. The outer side of his left hand was cut and was bleeding as a result. The central leg's claw had caught him while passing. At this moment when he noticed it was when it hurt.

The creature had begun to circle around him. Slowly. It was keeping some space between Macon and the monster. Macon turned and faced the monster. He held the knife between them. The creature appeared to be crippled or limping slightly. The creature's right side was full of dried blood, indicating a great deal of trauma and injury from military-type bullets. Above its head, 20% still.

He worked through in his head what this meant. But the monster was there moving, circling, looking not at all like it was about to die - the same was true for a person or human. However, the creature was moving in a circle and appeared to be functioning normally. Therefore, Macon questioned whether the percentage that was above the monster's head of 20% equated to the likelihood that the monster would die before he reached the final level of death, or was he killing the creature to get it there.

The creature once again charged ahead toward Macon. As a result, Macon was able to back away from the monster by a minimum distance of three or four steps. The creature ceased its charge immediately. Macon looked up and saw that the level of damage to the creature was now at 12%; therefore, when Macon had moved away from the monster, he had also When he stepped back, the number went down.

Death Sight didn't just show things. It could help navigate.

Macon took one step forward. The growl from within the beast indicated the threat percentage returned to 18%.

Macon took another step. The growl from the monster increased the threat percentage to 22%.

The monstrous creature stepped back a little. The beast was limping very badly from his right side of the body; the eye that rested upon his skull was looking at Macon in a way that appeared to have some semblance of uncertainty. The wounds upon the right side of the creature were still oozing blood a small amount.

Macon would once again take a step forward. The monster charged at him again, however, with a lesser amount of speed than had occurred on the previous charge.

Macon utilized his right foot and moved in the direction of the injurious part of the monster's body, and with his knife blade struck the monster randomly in the area that was already damaged.

The knife was thrust into the right-high side of the monster's flank area.

This caused the creature to emit a more of a scream than a growl; it then turned its body quickly, anits central fifth leg whipped through the air toward Macon. Macon did step out of the monster's attack zone, however, not quite far enough.

The growl from the monster caused the foot of the monster to smack him in the back.

Three long gashes, from his right shoulder to the bottom of his lower back. His jacket had torn, and the pain of it was immediate.

He stumbled but was able to stop himself by putting his hands against the porch wall.

The monster was not moving as fast as it had been earlier.

It was breathing heavily, and the damage to the right side of the body was very serious. The knife blade had been left inside the monster when Macon had stepped back from it. The monster was attempting to move towards Macon, but its right legs were shaking.

The count had increased quickly.

Macon's back felt as though it was on fire; his left hand was still bleeding. He had no knife to defend himself. He leaned against the porch wall, continuing to watch the monster as it continued to breathe more and more heavily.

Macon stepped toward his opponent.

The monster moved back.

Another step.

The monster dropped down onto its front knees (or whatever it had for knees). It made another attempt to stand and failed to get to a standing position.

Macon grabbed a large flat stone out of the garden, one of those decorative stones that his mother had used as a part of her landscaping design.

He stepped again toward the monster.

The monster raised its head and looked directly at him with three of its many eyes.

him.

Macon threw the stone.

It hit the top eye.

The monster collapsed on its side. It still moved a little. Its legs scraping the porch concrete without finding grip.

Macon stood motionless before a lifeless form for a solid minute. Everything in his body hurt; from his hand/ to his back; and even his left knee at some point in the process. When he finally went inside, he closed the door and sat on the floor of the hallway. Macon gazed at his hands, aware of the fact he had just killed something with the help of his Unique Ability, which enables him to know when someone is in imminent danger of dying. With the Unique Ability field opening in his mind, Macon was again given the same phrase he had received before, "Death Sight. See the probability of imminent death in others. " He was unable to foresee how he had used the death sight powers on the non-human giant creature, yet thinking back on it, the number associated with the giant acted similarly to a human number, as it mirrored the level of threat at the time, much like a human would adapt to real-time danger. Thus, the Death Sight power may be utilized in battle, although not used effectively at all times and often not easily; but, nonetheless, it may still be useful. He remembered the 101% level. A percentage of an individual which exceeds its maximum level; and based upon the 101% number, Maybe it meant he was constantly at risk, that danger would follow him immediately before he had attacked the non-human giant. He had nearly been killed; with claws from both hands after being attacked from behind.

There was always a risk and potential for danger, and death would be at Macon's side at a moments notice.

Alternatively, it could be something totally different.

Macon wouldn't know until that time came around.

Macon turned back to the news feed. As of the last report, the situation in Chevreuse continued to stabilize. There are military personnel patrolling the streets, while the monsters have retreated to the dungeons.

Macon looked up, to the ceiling.

His left hand had dried blood, he had a ripped coat, and there was a whole room of canned goods, all that were left of his mother's canning.

It could have been worse.

For now.
