Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9: THE FIRST FRACTURE

Outer Zone — Unfinished Sector:

The thing in front of them did not belong.

That was the only clear thought anyone had.

It didn't move like a creature.

It didn't breathe.

It didn't even fully exist.

Parts of its body flickered in and out—like something trying to take shape but failing to stabilize.

"…What is that?" Lira whispered.

No one answered.

Because no one knew.

Marek:

"Hold formation," Marek said.

His voice was calm.

But his stance wasn't.

"This is not a corrupted beast."

The figure twitched.

Not forward.

Not backward.

Sideways.

As if direction didn't apply to it.

Ren:

"…We should eliminate it before it stabilizes," Ren said.

Marek's response was immediate.

"No."

That single word carried weight.

Kael:

Kael stared at it.

Longer than the others.

"…You're incomplete," he muttered.

The thing reacted.

Not visibly.

But the air around it tightened.

Distortion:

The ground beneath it cracked—

Not from force.

From rejection.

Like reality itself didn't want it there.

Then—

It moved.

First Contact:

It didn't charge.

It didn't attack.

It simply appeared closer.

One step—

without movement.

Ren reacted instantly.

His Veyra ignited.

A sharp strike aimed directly at its core.

The attack passed through.

Not like air.

Like it was never there.

"…What?"

The figure flickered violently.

Then—

It responded.

Impact:

The space around Ren twisted.

His body froze mid-motion.

Not physically held—

But displaced.

Like his position in space had shifted incorrectly.

"Ren!" Lira shouted.

Marek moved instantly.

His Veyra surged outward, stabilizing the space.

Ren dropped to one knee, breathing hard.

"…That… wasn't an attack."

Kael Moves:

Kael stepped forward.

"Don't," Marek said.

Kael ignored him.

Not out of defiance.

Out of instinct.

Center Point:

He stood directly in front of it now.

Closer than anyone else.

The figure stopped flickering.

For the first time—

It stabilized.

Not fully.

But enough.

Silence:

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Because something was happening.

Contact Without Touch:

Kael raised his hand slowly.

"…What are you?" he said quietly.

The thing didn't answer.

But something passed between them.

Not sound.

Not Veyra.

Something deeper.

Reaction:

The figure trembled.

Then—

It began to collapse.

Not violently.

Quietly.

Like it was being erased.

Marek:

"…Step back," Marek ordered.

Kael didn't move.

He was watching it.

Carefully.

Final Moment:

As the figure faded—

A sound escaped it.

Not a voice.

A fragment.

"…mark…"

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…What?"

But it was gone.

Completely.

Aftermath:

Silence returned.

Heavy.

Unnatural.

No body.

No residue.

Nothing.

"…Did we just watch something disappear?" Lira said.

Marek didn't respond.

Because he already knew—

That wasn't destruction.

That was removal.

Return:

The group moved back immediately.

No delay.

No discussion.

Because none of them understood what had just happened.

Kael walked silently.

"…Mark," he repeated under his breath.

It meant nothing.

But it stayed.

Academy — Report Chamber:

"This is the third irregularity."

The room was different now.

More people.

Higher authority.

"Zone 12 anomaly."

"Empty sector."

"Now this."

"This is no longer coincidence."

Marek stood at the center.

"It interacted with him," one instructor said.

All eyes shifted.

To Kael.

"…Explain," another ordered.

Kael thought for a moment.

"It wasn't trying to kill us."

"That is not a conclusion. That is an assumption."

Kael shrugged.

"…It felt like it was trying to exist."

Silence.

Shift:

One of the older instructors spoke.

Quietly.

"…THAT MATCHES PRE-WAR FRAGMENTS."

The room stilled.

"WHAT FRAGMENTS?" someone asked.

The old instructor paused.

"…RECORDS THAT WERE NEVER COMPLETED."

Tension:

"THAT IS RESTRICTED KNOWLEDGE."

"…So is this situation."

Silence returned.

Kael:

"…WHAT WAR?" Kael asked.

That question changed the room.

A few instructors looked at each other.

"…The war you are already part of," one replied.

"That's not what I meant."

Kael's voice was still calm.

"I mean the one before that."

No one answered.

Decision:

"Enough."

The authority in the room shifted.

"This matter is now classified."

"All records from this mission are restricted."

"Kael Dravion remains under observation."

Corridor:

Kael walked out alone.

This time—

The silence followed him differently.

Not just from trainees.

From the academy itself.

Upper Chamber:

Behind sealed walls—

A conversation took place.

"…He heard it."

"…Yes."

"…THAT WORD SHOULD NOT EXIST IN CURRENT RECORDS."

"…Then something is leaking."

A pause.

"…OR RETURNING."

Deep Ruin Zone:

Far beyond everything—

The presence shifted again.

Not slightly.

Clearly.

The reaction this time—

was not passive.

It had heard something.

Or felt something.

"…mark…"

The word echoed faintly.

Not spoken.

Remembered.
