Chapter 15 - LEARNING TO CONTROL

Morning came without warmth.

There was no sunrise here.

No golden light breaking through clouds.

Only a slow shift—

From darkness…

To a dull gray.

Eli stood near the edge of the settlement, arms slightly tense, eyes scanning the distance.

"…Feels the same," he muttered.

"Because it is."

Kara's voice came from behind him.

Eli didn't turn immediately.

"…No difference between night and day?"

"…Only visibility," she replied.

"…Danger doesn't care about time."

Eli exhaled lightly.

"…Yeah. That tracks."

A New Routine

It had been a day since his arrival.

No rest.

No comfort.

Just observation.

Movement.

Preparation.

This place didn't waste time.

"…You're not here to survive," Kara said as she stepped beside him.

"…Then what?"

She looked at him directly.

"…To improve."

Training Begins

They moved beyond the outer line again.

Not as far as the tower.

But far enough.

Far enough that hesitation—

Would get him killed.

"…Today," Kara said, stopping in an open stretch of broken ground.

"…you stop relying on instinct."

Eli raised an eyebrow slightly.

"…That's what's been keeping me alive."

"…No," she said flatly.

"…It's what's barely keeping you alive."

Blunt Truth

Eli smirked faintly.

"…You're not big on encouragement, are you?"

"…Encouragement gets people sloppy."

"…Fair."

The Lesson

Kara stepped back.

"…Show me your ability."

Eli didn't hesitate.

He raised his hand.

"Shadow Fracture."

The ripple spread outward.

Clean.

Controlled.

Kara watched closely.

"…Again."

Eli repeated it.

Then again.

Then—

Stopped.

"…What exactly are you looking for?"

The Flaw

Kara stepped forward.

"…You're still forcing it."

"…That's how it works."

"…No," she said.

"…That's how you think it works."

Eli frowned slightly.

"…Explain."

Understanding Power

Kara tapped her chest lightly.

"…Power here isn't just something you use."

She pointed at him.

"…It reacts to you."

A pause.

"…Your thoughts. Your state. Your control."

Eli glanced down briefly.

"…So if I lose control…"

"…It stops being yours."

The words hit harder than expected.

A New Approach

"…Try again," Kara said.

"…But don't force it."

Eli took a breath.

Focused.

Not pushing.

Not pulling.

Just—

Letting it exist.

"…Shadow Fracture."

This time—

The ripple was different.

Smoother.

Quieter.

More precise.

Kara's Reaction

"…Better," she said.

"…Feels different," Eli admitted.

"…Because you're not fighting it."

Building Toward Sync

Eli flexed his fingers slightly.

"…What about the other one?"

Kara tilted her head.

"…Other one?"

"…Shadow Sync."

Her eyes sharpened instantly.

"…You named it."

"…It named itself."

Interest Grows

Kara crossed her arms.

"…Show me."

Eli hesitated slightly.

"…It's not exactly stable."

"…Then make it stable."

First Attempt

Eli focused.

Tried to trigger it.

Nothing.

"…Great."

Kara didn't react.

"…You don't activate it."

"…It activates on its own."

"…Then learn why."

Frustration Builds

Eli clenched his jaw slightly.

"…That's not helpful."

"…It's not supposed to be."

Forced Combat Training

Without warning—

Kara moved.

Fast.

Eli barely reacted in time.

"—!"

He blocked—

But she pushed through easily.

"…Too slow."

She struck again.

Faster.

Sharper.

Real Fight

Eli dodged—

Countered—

Missed.

"…Focus," Kara said.

She didn't hold back.

Every strike—

Real.

Trigger Condition

Eli's breathing quickened.

His mind sharpened.

Everything slowed—

Just slightly.

Shadow Sync Activates

For a split second—

It happened.

His movement aligned perfectly.

He dodged cleanly—

Countered—

And landed a hit.

Kara stepped back.

"…There."

Recognition

Eli blinked.

"…That was it."

"…Again."

Pushing the Limit

They clashed again.

Faster this time.

Harder.

Eli pushed—

Focused—

And—

Nothing.

"…Come on…"

Mental Barrier

Kara stopped.

"…You're chasing it."

"…Yeah. Because it works."

"…That's why you can't reach it."

Key Insight

She stepped closer.

"…It's not something you grab."

A pause.

"…It's something you fall into."

Eli frowned.

"…That makes no sense."

"…It will."

Second Attempt

They resumed.

Faster.

More intense.

Eli stopped thinking.

Stopped forcing.

Stopped chasing.

And then—

Perfect Alignment

It happened again.

Clearer this time.

Longer.

His movements flowed.

Effortless.

Precise.

Every action—

Perfectly timed.

Breakthrough

Eli stepped back.

Breathing steady.

"…I felt it."

Kara nodded slightly.

"…That's Shadow Sync."

Explanation

"…It's not power," she said.

"…It's alignment."

"…With what?"

She looked at him.

"…Everything."

A Dangerous Path

"…But don't rely on it," she added.

"…Why?"

"…Because if you lose yourself in it…"

A pause.

"…you don't come back."

Silence

Eli didn't respond immediately.

The core pulsed faintly.

As if listening.

New Goal

"…So," Eli said finally.

"…I learn to use it…"

"…Without losing control."

Kara nodded.

"…Now you're starting to understand."

Unexpected Threat

A sound cut through the moment.

Low.

Deep.

Different.

Kara's expression changed instantly.

"…Not good."

New Enemy Appears

The ground shifted slightly.

Then—

A creature emerged.

Larger than normal.

But not as massive as the guardian.

Still—

Dangerous.

"…Perfect timing," Eli muttered.

Real Test

Kara stepped back.

"…Your fight."

"…Of course it is."

Battle Begins

The creature lunged.

Fast.

Powerful.

Eli reacted.

Dodged—

Countered—

But the creature kept coming.

Relentless.

Applying Training

Eli adjusted.

Didn't force his power.

Didn't rush.

He waited.

Observed.

Moved only when needed.

Shadow Sync Triggers

The moment came.

Naturally.

Effortlessly.

Everything aligned.

Eli moved—

Perfect.

Struck—

Precise.

Victory

The creature collapsed.

Silence returned.

Aftermath

Eli exhaled slowly.

"…That felt different."

Kara approached.

"…Because it was real control."

Acknowledgment

She studied him for a moment.

Then nodded slightly.

"…You're improving."

Eli smirked faintly.

"…High praise."

Closing Scene

They turned back toward the settlement.

Not as strangers.

Not quite allies.

But—

Something closer.

The core pulsed.

Steady.

Aligned.

For now.
