The answer came without hesitation.
"Not even my future sister-in-law."
Clara placed a hand dramatically over her heart.
The gasp that followed was entirely theatrical.
"Wow."
She shook her head in disbelief.
"I come here to apologize, make peace, and bare my soul, and this is how I'm treated?"
"You stole my snacks."
"A minor detail."
"A criminal offense."
That earned the first genuine laugh Clara had heard from Elena all day.
The sound made her smile widen.
For a moment, the tension between them seemed to disappear entirely.
Then Clara looked at Elena more carefully.
The amusement in her expression softened.
"You know..."
Elena raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
Clara leaned back in her chair.
"I still can't believe you're actually going to marry my brother."
A short silence followed.
Neither woman seemed eager to dwell on that particular reality.
Finally, Clara sighed.
"Personally?"
"That already sounds dangerous." Elena says.
"It is."
