Chapter 10 - Chapter 7: Pancakes and Ginger Tea

Keifer POV

The first thing I did when I woke up was check on Jay.

She was still asleep.

The blanket was wrapped around her and her face was buried in the pillow.

I smiled.

"Sleep, cupcake," I whispered.

She didn't move.

Good.

She needed rest.

Yesterday had been rough.

I quietly left the room and headed downstairs.

As I entered the kitchen, I found Keigan and Keiren getting ready for school.

"Good morning," Keigan said.

"Morning," I replied.

Keiren immediately looked around.

"Where's Ate Jay?" he asked.

"Still sleeping," I said.

"Is she okay?" Keiren asked.

I nodded.

"She's better, but she needs rest."

Keigan sat down and grabbed a piece of toast.

"Make sure she eats properly."

"I know," I said.

"And make sure she drinks water."

"I know."

"And don't let her run around."

"I know."

Keigan smirked.

"You sound annoyed."

"I am annoyed."

Keiren laughed.

A few minutes later, both brothers grabbed their bags.

"We'll see Ate Jay later," Keiren said.

"Tell her we said hi," Keigan added.

"I will."

Then they left for school.

The mansion became quiet again.

I looked at the clock.

Still early.

I decided to make breakfast.

Soon the smell of pancakes filled the kitchen.

After that I prepared some ginger tea and warm water.

Everything was placed carefully on a tray.

I looked at my masterpiece proudly.

"Perfect."

Jay POV

When I opened my eyes, sunlight was already pouring through the curtains.

For a moment I didn't move.

Then I remembered yesterday.

And everything hurt again.

"Ow."

I slowly sat up.

Bad idea.

Very bad idea.

I immediately laid back down.

"Never mind."

The room felt strangely quiet.

Too quiet.

Then I remembered.

Keigan and Keiren were probably already at school.

A knock came from the door.

"Come in," I said.

The door opened.

Keifer entered carrying a tray.

I blinked.

Pancakes.

Tea.

Water.

Fruit.

And enough food to feed an entire family.

"What is this?" I asked.

"Breakfast," he said.

"For me?"

"No, for the ghosts living in the walls."

I stared at him.

He stared back.

"Yes, it's for you."

I laughed.

Then another cramp hit.

My smile immediately disappeared.

Keifer frowned.

"Still hurting?"

"Yes."

"How much?"

"Too much."

He placed the tray on the bed.

"Eat first."

"I'm not hungry."

"Jay."

I sighed.

"I'm really not."

"Jay."

"Fine."

"Good."

I pointed at him.

"You're bossy."

"I know."

I took a bite of the pancake.

To be honest.

It was really good.

I looked at him suspiciously.

"You made this?"

"Of course."

"You're lying."

"I'm not."

"You're definitely lying."

Keifer looked offended.

"I made those pancakes with my own hands."

I laughed.

"Okay, Chef Keifer."

Keifer POV

An hour later, Jay looked a little better.

Not much.

But a little.

She was sitting against the headboard while holding her tea.

"I hate periods," she said.

"I know."

"They should be banned."

I laughed.

"I don't think that's possible."

"They should still be banned."

I shook my head.

Then she tried getting out of bed.

Immediately.

She regretted it.

"Ouch."

I crossed my arms.

She slowly looked at me.

I raised one eyebrow.

She groaned.

"Don't."

"I didn't say anything."

"You were thinking it."

"I was."

She pointed at me dramatically.

"Rude."

"I told you to rest."

"I'm bored."

"Good."

"Keifer!"

I laughed.

Jay POV

I spent the entire day in bed.

It was honestly horrible.

I watched movies.

I scrolled through my phone.

I stared at the ceiling.

I complained.

A lot.

And somehow Keifer listened to every single complaint.

By afternoon, my phone suddenly rang.

I looked at the screen.

Aries.

I immediately answered.

"Kuya!"

"How are you?" Aries asked.

"Terrible."

"I figured."

"Nobody loves me."

Aries laughed.

"Drama queen."

"I'm serious."

"No, you're not."

Then another voice appeared.

Angelo.

"Are you resting?"

"Yes."

"Good."

"Are you eating?"

"Yes."

"Good."

"Are you drinking water?"

"Yes."

"Good."

I groaned.

"Why are all of you the same?"

Aries started laughing.

Angelo laughed too.

Even Keifer laughed from the other side of the room.

Traitors.

All of them.

Keifer POV

By evening, Jay looked exhausted.

The pain hadn't completely disappeared.

But she looked calmer.

She was curled up beneath the blanket while watching a movie.

I walked over and handed her another cup of warm tea.

She accepted it quietly.

"Thank you," she said.

I smiled.

"You're welcome."

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

The room felt peaceful.

Comfortable.

Safe.

Then Jay yawned.

A huge one.

I laughed.

"Tired?"

"No."

Another yawn.

"Definitely not."

I pointed at the bed.

"Sleep."

She sighed dramatically.

"You're treating me like a child."

"And you're acting like one."

She threw a pillow at me.

I caught it.

Perfect throw.

Terrible aim.

A few minutes later, I looked toward the bed again.

Jay was already asleep.

I smiled.

"Goodnight, cupcake."

The mansion was quiet.

The rain outside had finally stopped.

And for the first time in a while, everything felt peaceful.
