Arnulf woke up from his sleep. His throat was very dry. He went down to the ground floor when he noticed his chest was slightly open.
He immediately checked it and found that nothing was missing except his steel sword. Instantly, he felt that something was wrong.
He rushed to Oliver's room and knocked on the door.
"Oliver! Are you here?"
After minutes of no response, he immediately kicked down the door and saw no one inside. There were no signs of a break-in. He went to the window and saw the red moonlight shining brightly in the night sky.
"Don't tell me..." He immediately ran out of the room. There was only one place he knew where Oliver might be.
Back in Mooncrest Dungeon.
Oliver slowly made his way toward the boss. Vran's group had the upper hand in the fight. It seemed that sooner or later, the boss would fall.
But something had been bothering Oliver since the fight began, and he kept thinking about it.
"The boss... why does it look so weak?" Oliver had played some video games in his past life, and he knew that bosses were usually very difficult to defeat and required many strategies. But this boss seemed as weak as the mob monsters he had encountered outside this room.
And Oliver was not the only one thinking about it, even Vran and his group were thinking the same thing.
"Hey, Jeff, Vran, don't you think this is a little too easy? I don't have a good feeling about it," Aleph, one of the members, said to them.
"Do not worry about it. Just focus on defeating it," Vran said. But inside, he too felt uneasy, as if something big was coming.
After a few minutes, the boss started weakening, and it fell to its knees as it received nonstop attacks from the group. Vran's eyes shone with anticipation.
"Is it time? Do I need to do it now?" Oliver hesitated. His body was already in a running stance, ready to sprint at any moment. Even though he was small, he was confident in his agility.
Suddenly, the boss's head fell to the side as it grew weaker, its skin turning purplish from the poison. Vran and Jeff grinned as they prepared to end its life.
"Hahaha. Here I thought this boss would be something big, but it is just a weak one, not as scary as a Rank 10 boss should be." Vran pulled out his sword and prepared to reap the reward.
The boss's eyes looked weak as it stared at the humans before it. It felt like it no longer had the strength to move.
Vran got closer and raised his sword, planning to cut its neck artery for a quick, painless death.
"Stop!"
Suddenly, he heard a shout from behind him. A boy rushed past the group and shoved both him and Jeff aside, causing them to stumble.
"What? Where the hell did this kid come from?" Jeff shouted.
Oliver immediately jumped onto the giant body of the fallen boss. He extended his hand forward, which was already bleeding from when he had cut it with his sword earlier.
"Kid, what are you doing? Don't tell me you are trying to tame this boss? Hahaha!" Vran laughed at Oliver. He did not plan to grab him immediately, as he thought the boy was an idiot. The rest of the group also laughed.
"Hahaha! Please stop already, kid. We tamers can only tame monsters, not bosses. Bosses are a different existence that humans cannot tame. Now come here with uncle." Jeff said as he moved closer to Oliver, his sword hidden behind him. They had no intention of letting Oliver escape alive. He would die together with the boss.
Oliver, however, remained focused and closed his eyes. He had been taught the basics of taming by his parents, and he was applying them now.
[Taming procedure initiated!]
Suddenly, a gust of wind swept across the area, pushing Vran and the others back. A large array formed on the ground, with the boss at its center.
"Don't tell me... this boy can tame the boss?!" Jeff's jaw dropped.
"Hey! What are you all staring at? Stop that kid!" Vran ordered.
The group tried to approach, but as they got closer, an invisible barrier blocked them. They struck it with their weapons, but nothing happened.
Oliver felt a surge of energy flowing through him, as if the surroundings were feeding him power. After what felt like a long time, a notification suddenly appeared.
[You have successfully tamed Velkryss, The Mooncrest Guardian!]
[You have successfully changed your fate. The system deems you worthy.]
[You are now the Master of the Overlord Tamer System!]
A string of messages kept appearing before him.
"Velkryss... so this is the name of my first monster." He felt exhilaration. But before he could fully enjoy the moment, Velkryss vanished into particles, and Oliver fell onto his buttocks. The invisible barrier disappeared.
"Where, where is the monster? Did you really tame it, or are you using some trick?" Vran shouted at Oliver.
"I already tamed it! And you cannot take it from me." Oliver said with a grin.
"This damn brat! I will kill you right now!" Vran rushed toward Oliver. But suddenly, the ground and the dungeon began to shake, throwing everyone off balance.
Rumble! Rumble!
"Don't tell me... is it a dungeon collapse?" one of the group members said. It was a phenomenon that happened when a dungeon started collapsing from within and ceased to exist.
Oliver took this opportunity and dashed toward the exit.
After a few minutes of running and evading falling debris and stones, Oliver finally got out through the portal. But he was still not safe yet. He immediately hid in a nearby bush as Vran and his group also escaped and began searching for him.
But right now, his face showed a mix of fear and excitement. It was because...
"It is time to summon my first monster!"
