Chapter 29 - VOICES IN THE STATIC

03:00 AM

Technical Lab & Server Room – Sector 7

Freezing room temperature to protect the servers, neon blue light emanating from monitors, and the sound of rapid typing clashing with the hum of cooling fans.

While the other members rested, Nero Familia's tech unit lived in a different world. For Key and Funin, reality wasn't what they saw on the streets, but what flowed inside the fiber optic cables.

Two Sides of the Digital Coin

Key (17) sat with three empty energy drink cans by her side. Her eyes were bloodshot, but her focus remained unshakable. She was building the "Invisible Wall"—a new encryption protocol designed to make their headquarters completely undetectable to police radar.

Beside her, Funin (15) wasn't hacking. She wore large headphones, her hands sliding faders on a digital audio console. She was processing voice samples harvested from various districts, compiling them into a library of false identities.

"Key," Funin called out softly. "Do you ever miss... real voices?"

Key stopped typing. She stared at the rows of green code before her. "Real voices usually only bring trouble, Funin. In here, we can be anyone. We can be ghosts, or we can be Gods."

Funin stared at her microphone. "I often wonder... if we keep manipulating everyone else's voices, will we eventually forget how our own sounds?"

This emotional weight was the price they paid. They were the "Sirens" of this city—capable of luring and destroying with frequencies, yet often feeling alienated from their own humanity.

The Unspoken Appreciation

The lab door creaked open slightly. Rion stood there. He didn't enter their "sacred territory," but he placed a small box on the table near the door.

"Get some rest once this protocol is finished," Rion said briefly before walking away.

Key opened the box. Inside were two sets of the latest hardware: a high-end graphics card for Key and a studio-grade condenser microphone for Funin. There was no card, no note, but they knew it was Rion's way of saying thank you for being the "eyes and ears" of the organization.

Funin offered a small smile. She immediately set up the new microphone and began recording a short melody—not for a mission, but a lullaby she had heard long ago before her world fell apart. Her voice echoed through the headquarters' corridors, providing a sense of peace to Mako, who was still awake in her room.

The Little Genius's Prediction

Mia (14) emerged from behind a row of servers, dragging her blanket. It seemed she never truly slept. "That melody has a soothing frequency, Sister Funin. It just lowered the stress levels in the base by 12%."

Mia sat on the floor between Key and Funin. "I just finished dissecting the data from 'The Pit.' Sinclair moved his reserve funds to Sector 1 today. He's terrified because of yesterday's chaos."

"Good," Key replied, snapping back into professional mode. "If he's scared, he'll make mistakes. And when he makes a mistake, we'll be there to delete him."

The three teenage girls—the hacker, the voice manipulator, and the data genius—sat in a circle amidst the blue glow of the servers. They were the brain of Nero Familia. Without them, the physical strength of Zack and Mako was merely muscle without direction. In the silence of the night, they composed a symphony of destruction for anyone who dared to underestimate the "children" of Sector 7.
