Chapter 7 - A Dice Thrown To Destiny

Somewhere in the Winterglen continent of Ferun...….

The two moons of Ferun hung in the sky as it's rays illuminated the world in a beautiful light.

The sobs of a woman could be heard in the silent night as she knelt on the banks of a beautiful flowing river. Her family stood around her as she sobbed onto the white bundle of baby in her arms.

A middle aged woman walked towards her with tears dripping down her eyes. She crouched beside her and stroke her back gently, holding back her own tears.

The woman's father also went to her and knelt beside her.

"I'm sorry Sidwyne, I wish we could do something but unfortunately we can't. The elven ancestral laws are sacred, and we do not break ancestral laws, especially for…uhh..you know…half-bloods" he said and kissed the young lady's head.

An eerie and mournful atmosphere hang in the air as the people gathered watched a new mother said goodbye to her newly born baby.

All of them wished they could do something to change what was about to happen but the elven laws could not be changed nor disobeyed, especially ancestral laws that dealt with half bloods.

The elven race is considered superior among all the races in the world, and they looked down on any other race.

Their blood mixed with humans or any other race was seen as a taboo or a dirty blood and so could not live on the elven lands. This was a sacred law that has existed for so long.

Elves who chose different paths with other races always found themselves either facing the dangers of the world outside elven jurisdictions or being separated from their newly born children at birth.

"We need to go Sidwyne, we don't have much time. We're still on the boarders of the continent" the young lady's father said.

"I'm sorry child. that i couldn't give you the life you deserve" the young lady said and pulled out a piece of paper from her dress.

"The least i can do is give you a name" she added and stuffed the piece of paper inside the bundle.

"Lucian" She said softly and tenderly as though it would slip away at any moment.

"My lightbringer"

After giving her son a name, she slowly handed the bundle of baby to the middle aged man as she fought back the dam of tears threatening to break out.

Her mother held her tightly in a hug as she tried to console her.

At that moment, a man who seemed a bit older than Sidwyne's father walked towards him. He carefully took the baby from his daughter and handed him to the man who accepted the baby in his arms.

Just then, a golden Gryphon with a cloak figure mounted on its back landed in front of him the other man.

"Remember, you don't choose. You don't disobey" The man said to the cloaked figure who nodded and took the baby.

He fixed the bundle in a baby carrier that hang on his chest and mounted the giant golden Gryphon.

As if waiting for that moment, Immediately the Gryphon flapped its first, the wailing of a baby broke the silence of the night.

The cloaked figure turned to look at the middle aged who gave him a nod of approval. With another mighty flap, the Gryphon took to the skies with its destination unknown.

The people gathered there watched as the Glyphon disappeared into the night. All of them wished they could save the innocent baby from this fate at a young age but they couldn't.

An order from the Elven king was supreme and nobody dared to challenge it, not even the Clan lords he ruled with.

As the chosen priestess of the elven world tree, she was not allowed to marry nor bear Children but Sidwyne went against these rules and above that, she had the child with a human.

Taking her new born baby from her was a punishment for her disobedience.

Sidwyne held tightly to her mother in wailing as the last piece of strength to hold back left her body. The sounds of wailing spread into the night as heartbroken mother lost the most important person in her life.

An elderly woman held the young lady's body from behind as she began to cast a sleeping spell on her.

"He who has seen death before the eyes is he who wails for a lost of forever"

But a lost far gone in unknown lands is a lost of unknown,

A lost of the soul,

Is a dice thrown to destiny

A box of promises to be fulfilled

So sleep now my daughter, and wake up to a promising tomorrow

For even in death, all is not lost

Somewhere On The Boarders Of The Western Continent Of Ferun.....

A giant golden Glyphon landed along the banks of quietly flowing river on the outskirts of the western continent.

A black cloaked figure dismounted and stood beside it for a few seconds as if scanning his surroundings. When he deemed everything was clear, he went to the river side and bent down a few meters away from the water. He took out a small basket from his storage ring and placed the bundle that hung in front of him gently in it.

He cast a spell on the basket allowing it to float and placed it on the surface of the water. He gave it a gentle push making it float towards the river course.

He scanned his surroundings one more time before disappearing into the woods.

The golden Glyphon also took the skies as if serving as a protector.

The krest river was one of the largest and longest rivers in the world of Ferun.

It separated the Western continent from the Vire forest which was the biggest hunting grounds in entire western part of the world.

It held some of the rarest and dangerous beast and monsters in the world.

Leaving a baby near such a forest was not really a good idea but the cloaked man wasn't alone and he had a plan. In fact, he could have just have taken the baby sent him to where he was going but it was risky move.

He was a few distance away from a human settlement in the western continent and giving his rank and the that of the man he came to meet, it would raised suspicions if somebody sensed such powerful presences gathered in one place.

A few minutes later, a black wyvern descended from the sky and landed a few meters away from a little floating basket that was moving at a slow pace.

A man with long hair tied behind in a ponytail jumped down from it's back and walked slowly towards the floating basket.

He made a hand gesture, allowing the small basket to float in his direction.

He walked towards it, picked it and came face to face with a sleeping beauty.

"Look at a long eared bastard"he whispered, careful with a smile, making sure not to wake the baby.

"Oh and look, he's even sleeping. bold or stupid. Let's go for bold, you're a Veyrath now"

He picked up the bundle from the basket and climbed back unto his beast companion.

He turned and looked straight into the woods at someone.

He stared at the particular location for a few seconds and nodded. The cloaked figure also nodded from where he stood in the woods.

He then patted the back of the black wyvern. a few seconds later, it rose through the sky headed to a place they have both missed.

The cloaked man appeared at the exact spot where the black wyvern had landed earlier, staring at it's disappearing back.

"Let's go home Learth"

He said and Glyphon landed beside.

A few seconds later, it took to the skies headed for the Winterglen continent.
