I changed into sleep clothes in the bathroom while Reid waited in the living room.
When I stepped back out, he looked up from his phone briefly before immediately looking away again.
"I'll head down in a bit," he said casually.
I frowned. "Reid, you cannot seriously prefer sleeping in a car."
He grinned faintly. "Your couch is tiny and I'm tall."
I snorted despite myself. Then he grabbed his jacket from the back of the chair and pointed toward my bedroom.
I walked him to the door anyway. When I opened it, Reid paused before stepping out into the hallway. Then he looked back at me.
"Lock the door after me," he said.
"Yes, Dad," I smiled.
Then Reid smiled back, small and warm and careful all at once before heading toward the elevator.
The next morning we left later than Rhys probably wanted us to. Reid carried my overnight bag downstairs while I locked the apartment.
