Rayton's ears were filled with the sweet chirping of birds as the gentle spring sunshine streamed through the window and a warm touch caressed his head. Rayton opened his eyes slowly.
“Brother.”
He saw Sez sitting beside him.
"Did you sleep well?”
She smiled faintly, and handed him a glass of water from the table.
“You should drink some water to soothe your throat, and don't forget to take your medication," she said.
She had gotten it from Marie early in the morning, after making sure that Rayton had fallen asleep deeply.
"Have you been here all night...?" Rayton asked in a hoarse voice, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Sez deliberately softened her smile.
"Yes, as I promised to be here until you wake up," she replied.
She wouldn't have left even if Rayton hadn't asked her to stay, because she didn’t want to leave him alone in such a state.
‘How could I, knowing very well that he has nowhere else to rest?’
