The forest had changed.
What was once divided between light and darkness now stood as something new something uncertain, yet strangely beautiful. Trees that were once lifeless now carried a faint glow. Shadows no longer felt cold, and light no longer stood alone.
Victoria walked slowly through the forest, her fingers brushing against the glowing leaves. She could feel it the balance.
But balance, she knew, was fragile.
Samuel stood not too far away, watching her.
Ever since the confrontation with the devils, something within him had shifted completely. The power he once ruled with fear now felt different calmer, controlled… guided.
By her.
"You're thinking again," Victoria said softly without turning.
Samuel smirked faintly. "Am I that obvious?"
She turned now, her eyes warm. "Only to me."
He walked toward her, his steps slower than usual.
"They won't stop," he said. "What happened that night… it changed everything. The devils saw weakness."
Victoria shook her head gently. "No. They saw something they don't understand."
"And what is that?"
She stepped closer.
"Us."
The word lingered between them.
Simple.
But powerful.
Samuel looked at her for a long moment.
"I don't regret it," he said quietly. "Choosing you."
Victoria smiled softly. "You didn't choose me over your world, Samuel… you chose a better version of it."
For the first time, he didn't argue.
Because deep down
He knew she was right.
Days passed, and their bond only grew stronger.
They spent more time together than ever before walking the forest, talking beneath the glowing trees, learning from each other.
Victoria taught him how to feel without fear.
Samuel taught her how to stand strong without losing her light.
One evening, they sat beneath the same tree where everything had begun to change.
Now it was fully alive half glowing with soft silver light, half covered in deep, shadowed bark.
A perfect reflection of them.
Victoria leaned back slightly, looking up at the sky.
"Do you ever wonder why we met?" she asked.
Samuel looked at her.
"I used to think everything in my world was controlled by power," he said. "Now… I think some things are meant to happen."
Victoria smiled. "I think so too."
A soft silence followed.
Comfortable.
Warm.
Then suddenly
Victoria's expression changed.
Her glow flickered.
Samuel noticed immediately. "Victoria?"
She placed a hand over her chest, her breathing slightly uneven.
"Something's wrong…"
Before he could respond
A sharp pulse of energy rushed through the forest.
Not from the devils.
From somewhere else.
Stronger.
Ancient.
Victoria dropped to her knees.
"Victoria!" Samuel rushed to her side, catching her before she fell.
Her wings flickered rapidly, her light dimming in waves.
"It's… the fairy realm," she whispered weakly. "They know…"
Samuel's expression darkened.
"They've felt your absence," she continued. "And now… they're calling me back."
"No," Samuel said immediately.
Victoria looked at him, pain in her eyes.
"If I don't go… they will come for me."
The words hit harder than any attack.
"Then I'll protect you," he said.
"You can't fight them, Samuel," she said softly. "Not like this. Not without starting a war bigger than the one we just faced."
Silence fell between them.
Heavy.
Painful.
Samuel clenched his fists.
"I just found you," he said, his voice breaking slightly. "I'm not losing you now."
Victoria reached up weakly, placing her hand against his cheek.
"You won't lose me," she whispered. "Not if what we have is real."
He held her hand tightly.
"It is real."
She smiled faintly.
"Then trust it."
The light around her began to grow stronger pulling her away, calling her back to where she came from.
Samuel held onto her as long as he could.
But the force was too strong.
"Victoria
"Find me," she said softly.
And then
She was gone.
The forest fell silent again.
Too silent.
Samuel stood there alone.
The glow around him fading slightly.
The warmth she brought… gone.
For the first time since he met her
The darkness returned.
But this time
It didn't feel like home.
Samuel looked toward the distant horizon, his eyes burning with determination.
"I will," he said quietly.
"No matter what it takes…"
Because some bonds
Couldn't be broken.
