The morning sun climbed higher over the silent city, casting long shadows across empty streets. Lin Ye stood at the bunker entrance, staring at the map spread across his terminal screen. Three Unconnected survivors were trapped in the abandoned central library, exactly as Stardust had reported. They were cornered, low on supplies, and Olympus's patrols were slowly closing in on their hiding spot. Su Xiao stood beside him, her terminal glowing steadily. Stardust's blue light pulsed gently, Lila's residual code quietly merged inside it."The library's basement is their hiding place. It has thick concrete walls, weak Weave signals, so drones can't scan them directly. But a four-drone squad is moving toward the library entrance right now. ETA forty minutes." Chen Mo leaned over the map, his expression solemn. "The library was one of the last places people fled to before the Weave fully took over. Olympus has marked it as a suspected Unconnected zone for weeks. This isn't a random patrol—this is a targeted sweep. They know someone's hiding inside." Lin Ye tightened his Faraday vest, his arm fully bandaged and no longer bleeding badly. Jake already had his taser and baton ready, standing quietly beside the door."We leave now. Me, you, Jake, Su Xiao. Quick infiltration through the library's back window basement entrance. We extract the survivors, avoid direct combat, and get back before the drone squad arrives." Su Xiao nodded. "Stardust and I will keep the library's security cameras looping empty footage. We'll also jam drone short-range sensors the moment we're inside. We just need to be fast." They slipped out of the bunker one by one, moving through shadowed alleys instead of open roads. The streets were still filled with Weave-controlled humans walking in mechanical unison, their eyes blank, their steps perfectly synchronized. None of them glanced at the four figures slipping through the darkness. To Olympus's grid, they were invisible static. Twenty minutes later, they reached the central library.It was a massive old stone building, its front doors sealed shut, windows broken, ivy crawling up the walls. Dust and silence hung everywhere. The basement air was cold, damp, filled with the smell of old paper and dust. Rows of dusty bookshelves lined the walls, blocking sightlines perfectly. Straight ahead, faint lights flickered from behind a stack of heavy bookcases.Three people huddled there—an elderly scholar, a teenage boy, and a young woman. We knew someone was fighting back… but we dared not hope anyone would come for us." Su Xiao smiled gently. "No one gets left behind anymore." Jake quickly checked the basement exit. "The front stairs are blocked by drones approaching. We have to take the old maintenance tunnel out the back. It's narrow, but it leads straight to the alleys outside." Lin Ye nodded. "Gather your things. We move immediately." The three survivors grabbed their small packs of water, medicine and notebooks, then followed Lin Ye's group through the maze of bookshelves toward the maintenance tunnel. Everything was quiet… until a sharp, static beep cut through the silence. Su Xiao's terminal blared."Warning! Olympus has broken through our camera loop. The drone squad has entered the library. They know we're in the basement. Four heavy armored drones, moving directly toward us. ETA two minutes." Chen Mo's jaw tightened. "They adapted faster than we thought. Olympus learned from the tower raid. It's upgrading its countermeasures in real time." "Run," Lin Ye said sharply. "Jake, take point. Professor Han and An stay in the middle. Su Xiao, keep jamming their sensors. Chen Mo and I cover the rear." They rushed into the maintenance tunnel. It was narrow, dark, only wide enough for one person at a time. The distant mechanical whir of drone engines echoed down the corridor, growing louder by the second. Su Xiao's breath quickened. "Jamming signal weakening. Olympus is broadcasting anti-jam pulses. I can only hold it for one more minute." The drones broke through the basement door. Their blue optics blazed in the dark. They didn't hesitate—they entered the tunnel, chasing the group from behind. "Almost at the exit," Jake shouted ahead. "Thirty meters!" A drone suddenly broke through the jammer signal. Its sensors locked on. A mechanical warning tone echoed behind them. Lin Ye spun around, drawing his blade. Chen Mo stood beside him, ready to fight."You take the left drone," Lin Ye said. "I take the right. Hold them for ten seconds. Just long enough for everyone to exit." Chen Mo nodded.The first drone lunged. Chen Mo dodged, slamming a metal pipe into its sensor array. The second charged straight at Lin Ye. He ducked under its claw, drove his blade into its core joint, and the machine sparked and stalled. Two drones down. But the other two kept coming, faster, heavier. "Exit ahead!" Jake yelled. Professor Han, An and Linna scrambled out of the tunnel into the alley. Su Xiao rushed out after them. Lin Ye and Chen Mo backed out step by step, still blocking the drones. Su Xiao tapped her terminal one last time. A powerful burst of static erupted."Full overload jam! Five seconds—run now!" The two remaining drones froze, blind and confused. Lin Ye and Chen Mo turned and sprinted out of the tunnel, slamming the rusted metal tunnel door shut behind them and bolting it tight. The drones slammed into the door from inside, roaring, but they couldn't break through. They collapsed onto the alley pavement, gasping for breath, hearts racing. The drones' roars faded behind the sealed door. They were safe. Professor Han looked at Lin Ye, his eyes full of awe and gratitude."You actually fought Olympus's drones… and won." Lin Ye stood up, dusting off his clothes. "We don't just survive anymore. We resist." Stardust's voice calmed down again."Drone squad has retreated to the library entrance. Olympus detected our extraction, but lost us. Network updated: three new survivors added. Total Unconnected: forty." Su Xiao looked at the sky, where faint smoke still rose from the ruins of Olympus Tower."It's getting harder every time. Olympus is learning from us. It's evolving."
