Chapter 3 - THOMAS

Chapter 3

"We need to get to Level 4," Sarah said, brushing the dust from her apron. "The maintenance closet has a stash of emergency rations. Real food. Not this..." She gestured to the fuzzy, green-grey mountain of the biscuit.

"there is also a vent that lead to the rooftop there, we can escape from there", she said as she picked up the plastic shard on the floor.

He didn't know why she still needed it,

"thought we were good now", he said, glancing at the plastic shard.

As if noticing his glance, she replied, "ohh this", lifting the shard up for him to see "this is just insurance", she said with a smirk on her face.

"Lead the way, Sarah," he said, his voice echoing in the duct. "Let's go find some food that hasn't started going bad", he told her as she wrapped the base of the shard with her apron.

"Lets go we have a long day of walking ahead of us", Sarah scoffed as she picked up the shard.

"walking?", we're not walking anywhere, he retorted.

"Fuck no", Sarah screamed "I am not going to fly, do you know how dangerous that is, what if I fall or I'm too heavy for you", she retorted.

"You won't fall," he said, his voice calm. "And you're not heavy. I've carried equipment in the lab that weighed twice what you do."

"We stay in the vents. It's safe. There are corners to hide in. Up there?" She pointed to the open grate leading back into the room. "Up there, we're just snacks with a view."

"If we walk, it'll take us two days to hit Level 4. If we fly, we're there in ten minutes," Thomas countered.

Sarah had a look on her face as if contemplating the idea then she said "If you drop me," she whispered, her smirk long gone, "I will haunt those feathers for the rest of your life."

"Deal," Thomas said, a small, genuine spark of a smile touching his lips.

He didn't wait for her to change her mind. He stepped closer, wrapping one arm firmly around her waist. "Hold your breath," he warned.

With a single, powerful snap of his black wings Sarah's screams were lost in the rush of the wind.
