Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: DANCE OF THE DRAGON

The platform had changed. Where once it had been a single vast expanse, it was now divided into multiple arenas, each separated by faint barriers of energy that shimmered like glass under sunlight.

These barriers weren't just for containment—they absorbed shockwaves, controlled impact, and ensured that battles could proceed without interfering with one another. Above, the recording arrays adjusted their positions, focusing more precisely, capturing every movement, every strike, every mistake.

Kang Jinhyuk stood at the center, his presence anchoring the entire field.

"The final stage,"

he began, his voice carrying effortlessly across every arena,

"is combat evaluation."

No one spoke. Every candidate listened.

"This is not a tournament,"

he continued.

"It is an assessment."

A subtle pause followed.

"You will be matched based on your previous performance."

Murmurs rose faintly.

"Your opponent will not be equal."

Silence returned instantly.

"In most cases,"

he added calmly,

"they will be stronger."

The weight of that statement settled heavily.

"This is intentional."

His gaze swept across them.

"We are not testing whether you can defeat those below you."

A brief pause.

"We are testing whether you can overcome those above you."

The tension sharpened.

"You will fight one after one many matches,"

he said.

"Your performance will determine your ranking."

Another pause.

"Victory guarantees advancement."

A faint shift in tone.

"Defeat does not guarantee failure."

That, changed everything.

"This academy values more than outcomes,"

Kang Jinhyuk continued.

"Control, adaptability, awareness, efficiency… all of it will be judged."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Fight with purpose."

With that, the arenas activated fully. The first matches began.

He stood at the edge, observing. Carefully. Calmly. The first fight erupted with explosive force. A candidate rushed forward recklessly, only to be overwhelmed within seconds by a more experienced opponent. It ended quickly.

Too quickly.

"…Poor control," he noted silently.

Another began. This time, it was different.

Two candidates circled each other, movements measured, each strike deliberate. One used a spear, precise and controlled, while the other relied on agility, evading and countering. The exchange lasted longer, building tension before ending in a narrow victory.

"…Better."

Then came a brutal one. A large man, his body expanding slightly, veins bulging as raw strength surged through him, slammed his opponent into the ground repeatedly. There was no finesse, no technique—only overwhelming force.

"Berserker type…"

"…High output…"

The opponent couldn't keep up. The fight ended decisively. More matches followed. Some were one-sided. Some were balanced. Some were intense.

An SS Rank candidate stepped forward, his movements sharp, almost unreal. Wind gathered around him, enhancing his speed to a level where his opponent couldn't even react properly. The fight ended in moments.

Another displayed elemental mastery, weaving fire and movement together in a seamless flow.

"…High-tier control…"

Then Min Seoah entered her arena. The atmosphere shifted immediately. Her opponent didn't even last long enough to show their full ability. The moment she moved, it was over. There was no wasted motion, no excess force—just absolute dominance.

"…Still on another level…"

He watched everything. Not just the outcomes but the methods. Patterns. Mistakes. Advantages.

Time passed. Names were called. Fights ended. And gradually, It approached.

"…Lee Hyun."

His name echoed. The noise dimmed. Eyes turned. Again. He stepped forward calmly, his expression unchanged as he entered the arena. Across from him stood his opponent.

A tall, heavily built man. Muscles dense. Presence aggressive. The moment their eyes met, the difference was clear.

"…A Rank," he thought.

Not just in talent but in execution.

"Name's Kwon Taesung,"

the man said, rolling his shoulders slightly.

"You're that SSS Rank, right?"

A grin appeared.

"Let's see if it's real."

A faint pause.

"Try not to break too easily."

Lee Hyun didn't respond. He simply stood there. Calm. The signal was given. And the fight began.

Kwon Taesung moved first. Explosively.

The ground cracked beneath his step as he surged forward, his aura erupting outward in a violent wave. His body expanded slightly, veins surfacing as his strength multiplied.

"Berserker…"

The force behind his punch distorted the air itself.

Lee Hyun moved. Not fast but precise. He stepped aside just enough, letting the attack pass, feeling the raw power behind it without directly confronting it.

"…High output. Low control."

Another attack came immediately. Then another. Relentless. Each strike carried enough force to end the fight instantly if it connected.

But he didn't rush. Didn't counter immediately. He observed. Adjusted. Learned. His movements began to shift subtly, his footing aligning, his breathing stabilizing.

"…Let's test it."

The wooden practice sword he had been using was no longer there. Instead, The Demon's Sword manifested silently in his grasp.

To others, Nothing changed. But to him, Everything aligned. He moved. This time, Differently. The blade flowed. His body followed. A faint pattern emerged.

Not rigid.

Not forced.

Fluid.

Elegant.

Like a dance.

"…Dragon Blade Dance…"

The technique activated naturally, as if he has done this many times before. Its first pattern unfolding as his movements became smoother, more connected. Each step transitioned into the next, each motion carrying intent without excess.

Kwon Taesung's attacks grew heavier, more aggressive, but something had changed.

He couldn't land a hit.

"…What the—"

His strikes began missing by inches. Then more. Then entirely. Lee Hyun moved through the attacks, not retreating, not clashing, simply flowing between them, his blade tracing arcs that seemed almost effortless.

"…Like he's dancing…"

"…No…"

"…That's a technique…"

The observers above leaned forward slightly.

"…Growth-type sword art…"

"…And he's already adapting it…"

"...What a monster..."

Kwon Taesung roared, his aura surging even further as he committed fully, abandoning restraint.

"Stop dodging!"

He swung with everything he had. And that was the opening. Lee Hyun's eyes sharpened slightly.

The flow shifted. The dance became a strike. The blade moved. Clean. Precise. Unavoidable. Before the second pattern could even fully form.. It ended.

The impact was silent for a split second. Then Kwon Taesung was sent flying. His body lifted off the ground, thrown backward as if struck by something far heavier than a single swing. He crashed against the barrier, the energy absorbing the impact as he fell, unable to stand.

Silence followed. Not shock but recognition.

"…It's over…"

"…That fast…?"

Lee Hyun stood still, his sword already gone, his breathing unchanged. No strain. No excess movement. Just complete control. The result was clear. And once again, Every eye returned to him.
