Grandpa told me once that both Sankar and Lakshmi were his favorite cousins. They all were inseparable since childhood and Sankar was his partner in crime. But he was shocked when Sankar committed suicide. Grandpa said that they found his lifeless body around the banks of the lake. Till this day no one knows why did he committed suicide. He had everything that I person could ask for. Every girl in this village wanted to be with him at that time.
But grandpa once told me that he only loved one person. She was Savitri, cousin of Govind from his father's side. Savitri was a strong woman unlike any women in that time. She was well educated and on the top of that she was really brave. She loved Sankar very much, but it wasn't because of his fine appearance. When everyone saw Sankar's strong side, she was the only one that saw his weak side.
The side which craved for some affection, warmth and some support to follow his passion. That's why Sankar fell for her in the first place. Sankar was gifted with the talent for painting. But he stopped it when his mother Dakshayini passed away. Sreekumar never supported his dreams and often beat him for clarifying his side. Even his sister Lakshmi never saw his weak side. Govind at first treated him badly and once he even tried to kill Sankar. But Savitri never let his side unlike others.
Grandpa told me that he loved her like no one. He loved her more than everyone, more than his life. For him she was everything. He even drew her pictures. But the sad is that he never confessed his feelings to Savitri. Even when she begged to stay with him. But he pushed her away, because Great grandpa Sreekumar told him that he would kill her if Sankar had feelings for her. So he pushed her away and she was sent to her village Punyakeertham.
