Chapter 16 - Sixteen

While waiting for the doctor, Lyra kept rubbing his hands, trying to bring back some warmth into them.

When the doctor arrived, she carefully lowered Lucien's head onto a pillow and stepped aside, though her eyes never left him.

"He was fine when we talked an hour ago," she said quickly, her voice unsteady. "But later we found him collapsed on the floor. He was drenched in sweat and his body was cold. Please check what happened to him. He just woke up from a coma and now this…" her words came out in a rush.

The doctor paused for a second, clearly surprised by her panic, then nodded.

"Don't worry, Ms Dallas. We will check Mr Crossel. Please calm down."

He moved closer and checked Lucien's pulse, then used a small torch to examine his eyes.

"Did he take his medications today?" he asked.

As he spoke, the nurse checked Lucien's blood pressure and temperature.

Lyra turned her head slowly toward David.

David stepped forward nervously. "Doctor… Master has not eaten anything since morning. He only had his first meal in the evening. I came to give him his medicine, but we found him collapsed."

A cold silence followed.

David felt it immediately.

He turned and met Lyra's gaze.

It was sharp enough to freeze him on the spot.

"What were you all doing?" she snapped. "You cannot even make sure he eats properly? Are you all being paid to stand around and do nothing?"

Her voice cut through the room.

Even the head butler lowered his head, feeling the weight of her anger.

The doctor cleared his throat gently.

"Ms Dallas, it seems Mr Crossel fainted due to weakness. He has not eaten properly and has missed his medication. His body is already fragile after the coma, so this has affected him."

Lyra clenched her fists slightly but said nothing.

The doctor continued, "You also need to ensure he avoids stress. His blood pressure is high. If this continues, it could lead to something serious like a brain hemorrhage."

Her eyes immediately shifted to Lucien's face.

He looked so pale.

So still.

"He just woke up from a coma," the doctor added. "He needs proper care and a peaceful environment."

Lyra nodded quietly.

The nurse administered an injection while the doctor watched.

"This will help stabilize his condition and lower his blood pressure," the doctor said. "When he wakes up, give him his medicines on time. And make sure he does not skip meals again."

Lyra's voice came out softer this time. "When will he wake up?"

"By tomorrow morning. The injection will help him rest properly."

She nodded again.

"If anything like this happens again, call me immediately."

With that, the doctor left, followed by the butler.

The room fell silent.

Lyra slowly sat down on the edge of the bed.

Her gaze lingered on Lucien's face.

His lips, the same lips she had kissed not long ago, were now dry and pale.

Her brows furrowed.

Was it because of their conversation?

Or the kiss?

He had looked fine downstairs.

So what changed?

What happened after he came here?

She reached out and gently touched his forehead, smoothing the faint lines there.

Her fingers lingered for a moment longer than necessary.

For the first time, she looked at him without anger, without judgment.

Just… quietly.

Her eyes grew heavy without her noticing.

Still sitting beside him, her hand resting near his, she slowly drifted into sleep.
