Chapter 120 - CHAPTER 120:THE SUMMIT

Christabel received an invitation.

Not to a party.

To a summit.

A gathering of the world's most powerful people.

And they wanted to hear from her.

---

The invitation arrived on a Friday.

Gold-embossed. Heavy paper. The kind of invitation that meant something.

The Global Leadership Summit requests the presence of Christabel Moreau as a keynote speaker.

Topic: Building the Future.

Location: Geneva, Switzerland.

Date: Next month.

Christabel read the invitation three times.

Then she handed it to Damien.

"They want me to speak."

"You're a leader."

"I'm a builder."

"Same thing."

"Different intention."

---

He took her hand.

"Are you going to accept?"

"I don't know."

"Why wouldn't you?"

"Because I'm not one of them."

"One of who?"

"The powerful. The elite. The people who think they own the world."

"You're more powerful than all of them."

"I don't feel powerful."

"You don't have to feel powerful. You just have to speak."

---

That night, Christabel put Lena to bed.

Not Damien. Her.

She read her daughter a story. Not a baby book. A real story. One of her favorites.

"There was a woman who was invited to speak to the world," she read. "And she was afraid. But she went anyway."

Lena stared at her.

"Bah," she said.

"That's right," Christabel said. "Bah."

---

Damien was in the doorway.

"She said it again."

"She said it to me."

"She said it to both of us."

She closed the book.

Set it on the nightstand.

"She's going to be brave."

"She's going to be just like you."

"God help the world."

"God help anyone who tries to silence her."

---

They stood over the crib together.

Lena was asleep. Her tiny chest rose and fell.

"I'm going to accept," Christabel said.

"The invitation?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because someone needs to speak for the people who can't."

"That's why you're the right person."

---

The next morning, Christabel called Dr. Hayes.

"I need your help."

"With what?"

"The speech. The summit. The world."

Dr. Hayes was quiet for a moment.

"What do you want to say?"

"The truth."

"About what?"

"About Lenara. About the families. About the homes."

"And about you?"

Christabel was quiet.

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because it's not about me."

---

The next few weeks were a blur.

Research. Writing. Rehearsing.

Christabel worked with Dr. Hayes on the speech.

Damien watched from the doorway.

"You're going to be great."

"I'm going to be honest."

"Same thing."

"Different intention."

---

The night before the summit, Christabel couldn't sleep.

She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about the speech.

The words.

The world.

The future.

Damien was awake beside her.

"What are you thinking?"

"I'm thinking about Eleanor."

"Eleanor?"

"She's the reason I'm doing this. Her. And the families. And the children."

"Then speak for them."

"What if I fail?"

"Then you try again."

---

He pulled her into his arms.

"I love you."

"I know."

"I love you in ways I didn't know I was capable of."

She touched his face.

"I know. Because I love you the same way."

---

The next morning, they flew to Geneva.

Lena stayed with the nanny.

The city was beautiful. The lake was blue. The mountains were white.

Christabel stood at the window of the hotel.

Looking out at the world.

"Are you ready?" Damien asked.

"I'm terrified."

"Good." He kissed her forehead. "It should."

---

The summit was held in a grand hall.

Chandeliers. Marble floors. Hundreds of people in expensive suits.

Christabel walked to the stage.

Her heels clicked on the floor.

Her heart pounded in her chest.

She reached the podium.

Looked out at the crowd.

---

"Thank you for inviting me," she said.

The room was silent.

"I'm not going to talk about myself. I'm not going to talk about my empire. I'm going to talk about the people who don't have a voice."

She paused.

"The people of Lenara. The families who lost everything. The children who never had a chance."

---

She told them about Eleanor.

About the old woman sitting on the steps of the shelter.

About the home she had been given.

The hope she had found.

"She changed my life," Christabel said. "Not because she was powerful. Because she was human."

---

She told them about the hundred homes.

The families who had been housed.

The children who had been fed.

The futures that had been created.

"This is what building the future looks like," she said. "Not skyscrapers. Not stock markets. Not power."

She looked at the crowd.

"Hope."

---

The applause was deafening.

People stood.

People cheered.

People cried.

Christabel walked off the stage.

Damien was waiting.

"You did it."

"We did it."

"You spoke."

"We listened."

---

That night, they flew home.

Lena was asleep.

The penthouse was quiet.

Christabel stood in the nursery.

Looking at her daughter.

"I spoke for the people who can't speak for themselves," she whispered.

Lena didn't stir.

"I hope I made you proud."

---

Damien appeared in the doorway.

"She's asleep," he said.

"She's perfect."

"She's ours."

He walked to her.

Took her hand.

"You made everyone proud."

"I made myself proud."

"Same thing."

"Different intention."
