Chapter 117 - CHAPTER 117:THE BELIEVERS

The world came to Lenara.

Not as tourists.

As believers.

They had seen what Christabel built.

And they wanted to be part of it.

---

The first visitor was a woman named Dr. Patricia Hayes.

Fifty-five years old. Gray hair. Sharp eyes. A professor of urban planning at a prestigious university.

She had written papers about Verona. About Aurelia. About the cities Christabel had built from nothing.

Now she wanted to see Lenara.

"Mrs. Moreau, I've been following your work for years."

"Thank you."

"Your cities are revolutionary."

"They're just cities."

"No." Dr. Hayes shook her head. "They're proof that the future can be different. Better. More human."

Christabel was quiet for a moment.

"What do you want?"

"To teach. To write. To help."

"Help how?"

"By telling the world what you've done."

---

The second visitor was a man named David Chen.

Forty-two years old. Dark hair. Kind eyes. A developer who had made his fortune building affordable housing.

He had read about Lenara. About the hundred homes. About the families who had been given a chance.

"I want to invest," he said.

"Why?"

"Because I believe in what you're doing."

"You don't even know me."

"I know your work."

"My work is not me."

"It's a reflection of you."

Christabel was quiet for a moment.

"Then invest."

---

The third visitor was a young woman named Maya.

Twenty-eight years old. Bright eyes. Nervous hands. A journalist who had been covering the homeless crisis for years.

She had seen the shelter. The homes. The families.

She wanted to write a story.

"Not about you," she said. "About them. The people you've helped."

"Why?"

"Because the world needs to know that change is possible."

"Then write."

---

That night, Christabel put Lena to bed.

Not Damien. Her.

She read her daughter a story. Not a baby book. A real story. One of her favorites.

"There was a woman who built a city," she read. "Not for herself. For others. And the world came to see."

Lena stared at her.

"Bah," she said.

"That's right," Christabel said. "Bah."

---

Damien was in the doorway.

"She said it again."

"She said it to me."

"She said it to both of us."

She closed the book.

Set it on the nightstand.

"She's going to be a leader."

"She's going to be just like you."

"God help the world."

"God help anyone who tries to stand in her way."

---

They stood over the crib together.

Lena was asleep. Her tiny chest rose and fell.

"The world is watching us," Christabel said.

"The world is watching you."

"Us."

"Them."

She looked at him.

"Are you scared?"

"Terrified."

"Good." She kissed his chest. "Me too."

---

The next morning, Christabel woke before Lena.

Not because the baby was crying. Because she wanted to.

She walked to the window.

Looked out at Lenara.

The homes. The streets. The lives.

This was her vision.

Not theirs.

Hers.

---

Damien appeared behind her.

His arms around her waist.

His lips on her neck.

"What are you thinking?"

"I'm thinking about the future."

"Ours?"

"Everyone's."

He turned her around.

Looked at her.

"Then let's build it."

---

That afternoon, Christabel met with Dr. Hayes.

The professor had questions. Many questions.

"How do you choose which families to help?"

"The ones who need it most."

"How do you fund the construction?"

"Through the empire."

"Don't you worry about becoming too powerful?"

Christabel smiled.

"I'm already too powerful."

---

She met with David Chen.

The developer had plans. Big plans.

"I want to build a thousand homes," he said.

"Then build them."

"I need your approval."

"You have it."

"Just like that?"

"Just like that."

---

She met with Maya.

The journalist had tears in her eyes.

"I interviewed Eleanor," Maya said. "The first resident."

"How is she?"

"She's happy. She's hopeful. She's alive."

"Then you have your story."

---

That night, Christabel stood at the edge of Lenara.

The city was dark.

The stars were bright.

Damien stood beside her.

"Today was a good day," she said.

"Today was a busy day."

"Same thing."

"Different intention."

---

He pulled her close.

"I love you."

"I know."

"I love you in ways I didn't know I was capable of."

She touched his face.

"I know. Because I love you the same way."
