Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 The Proposal

"Where were you? You know Dr. Jason is very strict—and why are you all wet?" Lilly said worriedly.

"Nothing. I was stuck in the rain, and then I saw an old lady, so I gave her my umbrella," Mark said, making a tired face.

Lilly smiled. "Aww, this is why I love you. Go, hurry and change. Dr. Jason is still waiting for you."

Lilly felt relieved after seeing Mark. She noticed a message from Sara: "Take care, I will see you at home." She replied.

In the evening, Lilly stood there, looking at a small baby through the glass. The baby's mother had just died after giving birth to him. She felt tears welling up. Just then, Mark came from behind. He saw Lilly and understood how she was feeling. He gently tapped her shoulder.

"Do you want kids?" he asked.

Lilly "Yes."

Mark smiled. "Then we will have at least three kids."

Lilly shook her head. "Seriously, one is enough."

Mark teased, "You can't do that."

Lilly replied playfully, "Then find someone else."

Mark smiled. "Now it's not possible." He took out a ring from his pocket and sat down to propose.

Lilly had expected this day, but she never thought it would be like this. Tears finally rolled down her cheeks.

"Why are you crying? Don't you want to marry me?" Mark asked. She started crying even more.

"Dr. Lilly, will you marry me?"

She nodded. "Yes."

He slipped the ring onto her finger. They hugged. He wiped her tears gently.

"Now we should go back to work," she said.

"Okay, but we'll go for dinner after this," he replied.

She agreed.

At the dinner table, Lilly asked, "Since when have you been planning this?"

Mark smiled. "Maybe for months. I've been carrying this ring everywhere."

"How did you find the courage to propose?" she asked.

Mark replied, "Today, the way you were looking at that baby… I thought, Mark, do it today. If you let this moment slip, you'll regret it for the rest of your life."

Lilly smiled. "Let's order something."

After dinner, they walked by the river.

"When should I come to your house to talk?" Mark asked.

"I will talk to them first," Lilly replied.

"Are you scared they'll reject me?"

"No."

"But what if they do? Will you break up with me?

"Maybe," she said teasingly.

Mark looked serious. "Remember, no matter what, I will only marry you."

When Lilly came home, she asked, "Where are you going?"

Sara replied, "To Aunt Raven's only son's success party. Do you want to join?"

"No. What success party?" Lilly asked.

"He's starting a new company," Sara said.

"What about the interview you gave this morning?"

"I don't know," Sara said, hugging Lilly.

Lilly wanted to talk about Mark, but seeing Sara like this, she decided to wait.

"It's good. Aunt Raven will take care of you," Lilly said.

"I don't want to go. She'll use me for matchmaking," Sara complained.

Lilly laughed. "It's okay. What if you find a good-looking rich CEO, just like in dramas?"

"In reality, all CEOs are old," Sara joked. "Okay, bye, I'm leaving."

Sara and her mother reached her aunt's house, where they were warmly welcomed. Aunt Raven introduced them to everyone.

"Where is Lilly?" Aunt Raven asked.

"You know she's a doctor, so she's quite busy," Sara's mother replied.

"Okay, okay, no need for excuses," Aunt Raven said.

Later, Sara sat with her cousin. Suddenly, she saw a familiar face—it was the man who had helped the old lady. She wanted to talk to him, but her aunt stopped her to introduce her to someone.

Sara greeted them politely, but her attention remained on that man. She barely heard what her aunt was saying and simply nodded to everything.

Finally, she moved closer. He was talking to her cousin Jonathan. He looked incredibly handsome in formal clothes—but it wasn't just his looks that impressed her.

Jonathan said, "I'm telling you, if you don't raise prices, your hospital will close one day."

The man replied calmly, "I don't think so. This is my family's policy—treatment should not be limited to the elite."

Jonathan argued, "But even the medicine—you should have patented it."

The man shook his head. "We didn't patent it because we want local manufacturers in poor nations to produce it. Importing increases costs for them."

Jonathan smiled. "You're amazing."

Then he added jokingly, "Want to go out after the party? There will be women—it'll be fun."

The man replied, "No, I'm not interested in those things."

"Come on, you're not married yet. Why are you so strict?"

"It's not about marriage. It's about respecting your partner."

Sara was amazed—but also slightly disappointed. What if he already has a girlfriend?

Later, Sara asked Jonathan about him.

"Do you know that guy—the one talking about cheap medicine?"

"I don't know him well," Jonathan replied. "We've known each other for about six months. He's a private person. But if you want, I can find out more."

Sara smiled. "Okay, thank you, my beloved cousin."

Next morning:

Sara woke up early. "Mom, where is sister?"

"I don't know. She said she had some work at the hospital," her mother replied.

"When will she come back?"

"In the evening."

Sara nodded.

Then her mother said, "You know what happened at the party yesterday?"

"What?" Sara asked curiously.

"Your aunt introduced me to a lady—and asked about her son for Lilly."

"Then what?" Sara asked excitedly.

"I said I'd ask Lilly first."

"What's his name? How does he look?" Sara insisted.

"I don't remember. But he owns a hospital."

"Mom, how can you forget his name?" Sara groaned.

Just then, Aunt Raven sent a photo and his name.

Sara looked at it. "He's good-looking… but we don't know about his character."

Her mother replied, "Your aunt says their families have known each other for 15 years. She says he's a good man."

Sara nodded. "You did right. Let Lilly decide. What if she already likes someone?"

Her mother frowned. "Family background is important."

Sara muttered, "And by that, you mean rich."

Her mother gave her an angry look—so Sara stayed quiet.

Then her mother added, "Your aunt also mentioned a match for you."

"What? Why?" Sara asked, shocked.

"He's a doctor. His name is Mark."

"I don't want to marry him," Sara said immediately.

Just then, her phone lit up. It was Jonathan.

She opened the message:

"He's a doctor. His name is Mark. I asked one of his employees—his mother is looking for a daughter-in-law. So, I think he's single."

Sara froze.

Only then did she realize—last night, she had been so excited that she forgot to even ask his name.
