Five people stood in the middle of the hall as they watched the crowd of people as they came and went.
Many people were lying in different, all not in a good condition.
The hall was noisy.
Will swallowed as he looked at the scene in front of him. This was the same outbreak that killed people in his own village.
He felt sweat forming on his forehead and became increasingly uncomfortable. He used his hand to wipe the sweat on his forehead and neck.
Noticing his actions, Raven secretly gave his hand a little comforting squeeze, while Kenji on the other side put his hand on his shoulder.
" I... am ... I'm going out." He said and left immediately.
They all watched his back as he left.
Jaden and Liza were confused.
Kenji followed.
Raven only sighed and went to help with the patients. She knew Will and Kenji were from the same place and understood why Will was more uncomfortable. He was younger than Kenji anyways.
Jaden and Liza were in complete darkness about the matter. Liza glanced out, her expression unreadable. She turned her gaze to the patients and decided to go to help.
Jaden's eyes remained fixed on the entrance, seemingly worried. He decided to follow too.
The two ladies remained inside, glanced at each other but did nothing.
Will slowly squatted down. He held his head in agony. The scenes of dying people, painful cries filled his mind.
It was all painful.
It hurt.
His hand started trembling. He held it to stop it but he just couldn't.
The pain became unbearable.
He started to slap his own head.
Softly, softly, then hard.
A hand grabbed him. He slowly yanked it away.
" Leave me alone." He told Kenji.
Kenji sighed. He squatted right beside him and said nothing for a moment.
" It hurts." Kenji murmured.
Will turned to him.
Kenji was staring at the pavement.
"The tears, the screams... I remember."
Kenji glanced at Will.
" We're here now. Not there. We need to find a way to help these people."
They were all silent for a while.
Will felt tears welling up in his eyes. He looked up to prevent tears from falling. He felt Kenji's gaze on him.
" Damn, I'm seriously not crying."
Kenji gave a scoff and stared at the ground for a moment.
Will sniffed and rubbed his nose after thinking about the words. It was true.
He wasn't in the past nor in Melgold.
The outbreak was real.
He stood up.
He sighed, dusted off his clothes and held out his hand to Kenji. " Let's go then."
Kenji gave a small smile and took the hand.
Jaden who was watching them from a distance, smiled after seeing them stand up. He nodded to himself and left immediately.
Will and Kenji entered after him.
Raven and Liza just gave them an encouraging smile. They smiled back. Will's smile being brighter.
Jaden casually nodded as to them. They nodded back and went to help with the patients.
Rord and Lance entered afterwards.
Lance seemed stressed while his father looked almost composed. Only with a closer look could one actually notice something was wrong with him.
Spotting them, Will walked to them. He greeted them and shot Lance a deadly look before asking what was wrong.
Rord was the one to answer.
" We lack some herbs for the treatment."
" What herbs?"
" Dreamshade."
Raven wasn't far from them. She was able to hear every word of their conversation.
She clearly remembered seeing Lance move herbs from Eniva's storehouse to their own.
And the Dreamshade was the majority of the herbs.
" Are you serious right now?"
She glanced at Lance. Lance wasn't paying attention to what Will and his father were talking about. Instead he was staring at something. Or... someone.
Raven followed his line of sight.
Liza.
He was staring at Liza, his expression hard to read.
Could it be that he found her attractive?
Raven almost smiled at the thought. But then she realized Jaden had also noticed the way Lance was looking at Liza.
It was just that their opinion on the look seemed to be different. But Raven simply couldn't figure out what her friend's opinion was.
She was brought to her thoughts by a muffled painful cry of the person lying in front of her.
She quickly made him drink a herbal liquid beside her. He fell asleep.
She sighed in relief. At least if the patients were sleeping, the pain could be somehow bearable.
Her eyes swept across the hall.
The families were devastated, the volunteers helping with the patients were the same.
Each person in the hall seemed to be fighting an extremely chaotic battle within their own minds.
There was a scream in the hall. A painful one.
Everyone turned toward the source.
A patient in front of Liza was screaming desperately.
Liza for a moment seemed in a daze. She stared at the person saying nothing.
Lance quickly went to the patient.
Unfortunately by the time he arrived, the scream had already died down.
The patient...
Dead.
The hall became silent.
The little hope left in the some people's heart was slowly fading. They all seemed to wonder who the next person was.
Raven's eyes fixed on Lance.
He was staring at the patient.
Raven couldn't tell what kind of feelings Lance was probably feeling.
Could it be fear?
Confusion?
Or maybe doubt?
Without saying a word, Lance dejectedly stood up and slouched away.
His father was also staring at the dead person. " Too bad." He murmured.
His eyes then drifted to Liza who appeared to still be in shock
" Too bad." He repeated.
