"Hmph, hmph, hmph!"

A series of heavy snorts rang out as Li Kai activated his Martial Soul.

The Black-Horned Mountain Boar erupted with intense black light, pushing its defense and strength to the absolute limit. He lowered his head, aiming the massive horns atop his skull, and charged straight toward the Great Ring Blade.

Bang!

With a deafening explosion, the person and the ring were both repelled by the counter-shock.

Li Kai couldn't help but stumble back several steps before steadying himself. He initially intended to charge directly at Sun Chuantao, but a silver flash flickered before his eyes—the Great Ring Blade was attacking once more.

In the distance, Sun Chuantao flicked his fingers. Like a legendary magical treasure from Ling Xiao's past life, the Great Ring Blade spun rapidly in mid-air, transforming into a massive silver wheel of blades.

It whistled toward Li Kai's flank at incredible speed, intentionally avoiding a head-on collision with the black horns. Sun Chuantao's plan was clear: bypass the frontal defense and shatter the Martial Soul's protection directly.

The edges on both sides of the Great Ring Blade were already razor-sharp.

Now, spinning at high velocity, it acted as a natural buzzsaw. Before Li Kai could react, the silver light flashed past his side. The blade tore through his defense, leaving a deep gash on his flank even while in his Martial Soul Possession state.

His defense was broken, and he suffered a significant wound.

"Hmph, hmph, hmph, hmph!!"

A sound like a slaughtered pig echoed—shrill and piercing.

Driven by a desire for revenge, Li Kai lunged to swat the Great Ring Blade away, but he couldn't even touch its "tail." His eyes, enlarged by the Martial Soul Possession, blazed with fury. Even the tuft of black bristles on his head, formed by the materialization of black light, stood straight up.

With a cold snort, Sun Chuantao repeated his tactic.

Under the influence of his second soul skill, the silver light of the Great Ring Blade shuttled back and forth, circling Li Kai. It not only disrupted Li Kai's attempts to attack him but also continuously inflicted new wounds on his body.

Although the defense of the Black-Horned Mountain Boar was quite impressive, Li Kai had been wounded in multiple places within a short moment, and his temperament was growing increasingly irritable.

If this continued, Li Kai was bound to lose to Sun Chuantao once again. However, at that moment, a vast expanse of golden light suddenly manifested above Li Kai's head. The radiance spread out, covering over ten square meters of the sky like a bank of clouds.

"First Soul Skill: Radiant Illumination."

A voice called out from behind him.

A young man stood there, wearing the standard uniform of the Spirit Hall Academy. He was tall with handsome features, holding a golden scepter that gave him an air of nobility.

A thick beam of golden light shot from the scepter toward the sky; clearly, the phenomenon above was his doing. This person was Xu Yu, possessor of the Brilliant Golden Scepter Martial Soul.

Now thirteen years old, years of cultivation had brought him to the rank of Soul Elder, with his soul power reaching Rank 32.

Xu Yu looked at Li Kai and said, "Don't worry. With my support, you won't necessarily lose."

Upon hearing Xu Yu's words, Li Kai's heart inexplicably calmed down, losing the agitation he felt just moments ago. It was true—having a Support System Soul Master standing behind you during battle truly inspires confidence.

As Xu Yu spoke, the golden light curtain created by his first soul skill released a gentle, pale gold shimmer. Bathed in this soft light, the soul power within Li Kai began to recover, and the wounds on his Martial Soul body started to heal slowly.

Seeing this, Sun Chuantao's expression darkened. This kind of recovery-type support ability was truly frustrating. After all, the damage he had worked so hard to inflict was being undone by a support skill.

Wasn't his effort all for nothing?

No wonder their teacher had mentioned in class that among Support System Soul Masters, while the Augmentation System provided the best direct combat boost, the Healing System was actually the most depressing and difficult to deal with.

An Augmentation System Soul Master directly boosted an ally's combat power—you either won or lost based on a head-to-head clash.

It was simple and direct.

But the Healing System was different. You'd hurt the enemy, they'd get healed; you'd have to keep fighting, hurt them again, and they'd be healed again.

Back and forth, round and round—it was incredibly troublesome.

Generally speaking, if the opponent's healing power was strong enough, you could usually only win if your own strength significantly suppressed the enemy's Battle Soul Master.

If your enemy was a Defense System Soul Master paired with a Healing System Support Soul Master, it could make you cough up blood from exhaustion. Even if you were strong enough to win, you'd likely lose interest in fighting such a combination.

Of course, when it came to being truly frustrating, the most annoying of all Support System Soul Masters had to be the Curse System. While both Augmentation and Healing systems acted on their own allies, the Curse System was different—it acted directly on you.

The Curse System was downright shameless.

You might be fighting, and suddenly your vision goes black as you are struck with temporary blindness. Or perhaps you go deaf, or you are suddenly frozen in place, unable to move.

Other times, your body might become paralyzed or overcome with intense pain... these support abilities were the definition of "dirty tactics." Essentially, they did whatever was most disgusting.

Because of this, while Curse System Soul Masters had immediate and obvious effects, most people in the Soul Master world disliked them—unless, of course, the Curser was their friend.

Because the negative effects caused by Curse System Soul Masters were so potent, some in the Soul Master world believed they should be removed from the Support System and reclassified under the Control System.

They proposed that the Food System, currently a separate category, should be listed under the Support System alongside the Augmentation and Healing systems as the three main types of support.

There was some logic to this.

The abilities of Curse System Soul Masters did indeed overlap with those of Control System Soul Masters to some extent.

Whether it was immobilizing an enemy, paralyzing them, or blinding them, while these were technically debuffs used to support allies, they could also be viewed as controlling the enemy.

After all, some Control System Soul Masters with poisonous vine-type Martial Souls could also weaken enemies through poisoning.

However, this was the opinion of only a small minority. Most people still preferred to classify the Curse System as Support rather than Control.

On one hand, while their abilities overlapped, there was a key difference: Control System Soul Masters, while focused on restriction, usually possessed their own offensive capabilities and could actively participate in combat.

Curse System Soul Masters, despite their debuffs acting as a form of control, possessed no actual offensive power. If left alone, they were incapable of direct combat.
