Early morning.
Inside Spirit Academy, Ling Xiao sat in the classroom, waiting for the Martial Soul class to begin. Since his last lesson on the nature of Martial Souls, a week had passed. His days were quite fulfilling: cultivating Soul Power in the mornings and studying in the afternoons.
The sound of footsteps echoed as Xu Lin walked into the classroom. She smiled at the children and said, "Hello, students! A week has passed. Seeing you all again, did you miss your teacher?"
Ling Xiao rubbed his nose, smiling without a word.
It was a bit awkward for him to answer such a question. However, the other students didn't share his predicament. Most six-year-olds were still quite innocent; even the "naughty" ones appeared rather endearing.
To be honest, whether the answers were "yes" or "no," Xu Lin seemed satisfied with the result.
Standing at the lectern, Xu Lin looked down at her students and quickly transitioned into her teaching persona. "Students, last time I taught you about the basics of Martial Souls, including their classifications, cultivation directions, and different schools of thought."
"Today's content is equally fundamental and core to the nature of Martial Souls. However, unlike last time, I am not standing here today strictly as your teacher, but as a guide. I am giving you this lesson because, regarding the question we will discuss today, even I do not know the definitive answer."
"Hmm..." Ling Xiao furrowed his brows slightly, feeling puzzled.
He wasn't the only one; upon hearing Xu Lin's words, the children in the classroom began to whisper amongst themselves, murmuring in confusion.
Seeing the students discussing the matter, Xu Lin didn't get angry.
She understood that this situation was unusual and bound to cause curiosity. She waved her hand, signaling the students to quiet down, and said with a smile, "In this class, the question I want to discuss is: The relationship between Innate Soul Power and Martial Souls."
"The relationship between Innate Soul Power and Martial Souls."
Hearing this, Ling Xiao's interest was piqued.
His intuition told him that this lesson would likely yield significant insights.
"I want to ask everyone first: what kind of relationship do you think exists between Innate Soul Power and one's Martial Soul?"
Faced with Xu Lin's question, the children in the classroom either knew too little to formulate an answer or felt their thoughts were wrong and didn't dare speak.
They looked back and forth at each other, but no one raised a hand.
Ling Xiao looked around and felt he should do something.
Of course, he didn't actually know the "true" answer to this question, but that didn't matter. Yu Xiaogang had an explanation for this. Although Ling Xiao didn't agree with it at all, it could serve as a temporary talking point.
After organizing his thoughts, Ling Xiao raised his hand.
Seeing no response from the students, Xu Lin had felt a predictable sense of disappointment, but she quickly brightened when she saw Ling Xiao's hand. She couldn't help but smile. "Very good, student Ling Xiao. Tell us your thoughts."
Ling Xiao spoke at a measured pace. "Teacher, on my way to Spirit City, I chatted with some Soul Master mercenaries. I learned from them that there is a 'Grandmaster' in the world of Soul Masters who hails from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan."
"He published a theory called the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Souls. One of the points states that the magnitude of Innate Soul Power is directly proportional to the quality of the Martial Soul."
Now it was Xu Lin's turn to be surprised.
She truly hadn't expected Ling Xiao to say such a thing, much less mention that person.
Although that individual's personal strength was unremarkable, his background was complex and his origins were significant. She didn't actually want to comment on him; for an ordinary Soul Master like her, it was best to keep a respectful distance from such people.
After a moment of hesitation, Xu Lin said, "Mm, Ling Xiao, I have heard of this before. However, I want to hear your personal thoughts."
To this, Ling Xiao said only one sentence, speaking against his own convictions: "Teacher, I think that Grandmaster is right. I think so too."
Xu Lin: "..."
She fell silent for a moment.
After a brief internal struggle, she spoke slowly.
"In that case, let's set aside that Grandmaster for a moment and simply discuss the viewpoint that 'Innate Soul Power is directly proportional to the quality of a Martial Soul.' This viewpoint clearly suggests that the stronger the Innate Soul Power, the more powerful the Martial Soul is, correct?"
Ling Xiao nodded.
That was indeed Yu Xiaogang's meaning.
It was based on this viewpoint that Yu Xiaogang deduced Tang San must have another powerful Martial Soul. In his eyes, Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power was something the Blue Silver Grass could not provide; therefore, there had to be another Martial Soul, and a powerful one at that.
Ling Xiao had initially thought this deduction was correct, but he gradually began to see the flaws.
Setting aside Dugu Bo's factors, there was a glaring error in this logic from the very beginning that few people noticed. If one followed Yu Xiaogang's reasoning—that Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power was provided by the Clear Sky Hammer and not the Blue Silver Grass.
Wasn't that indirectly saying that Tang San's Blue Silver Grass was the same as those of people who awakened with extremely low, trace amounts of Innate Soul Power? It should have been an obvious trash Martial Soul that was impossible to cultivate.
Yet, Tang San's cultivation of the Blue Silver Grass was exceptionally smooth, and his speed was not slow. Therefore, regardless of whether the viewpoint "stronger Innate Soul Power equals stronger Martial Soul" was correct, Yu Xiaogang's process of using it to deduce Tang San's twin Martial Souls was flawed.
Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power should have been attributed to both the Clear Sky Hammer and the Blue Silver Grass—the Blue Silver Grass that had not yet awakened its Blue Silver Emperor bloodline.
Ling Xiao wasn't entirely sure if the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline possessed some sort of latent effect. If one considered Dugu Bo's statement that "for twin Martial Souls, the two souls must not have a large gap in quality."
Combined with Tang San's bloodline, it could be explained that the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline allowed the Blue Silver Grass to stand on equal footing with the Clear Sky Hammer.
The viewpoint Yu Xiaogang proposed seemed correct on the surface, but there was a glaring counter-example: Oscar. Oscar also possessed Innate Full Soul Power, yet his Martial Soul was merely ordinary Sausage.
Even if a Sausage Martial Soul belonged to the meat category—which was generally better than the vegetarian category—it was still just that. In terms of raw intensity, Oscar's Sausage Martial Soul didn't appear any different from other Sausage Martial Souls.
It was simply capable of being cultivated to a very high level.
Oscar's powerful support abilities were mostly due to the fact that he could reach higher ranks and obtain more and better Soul Rings. Where was the "powerful quality" of Oscar's Martial Soul, despite his Innate Full Soul Power?
If both were at the Soul Saint (Rank 71–80) realm, his support ability wasn't nearly as formidable as Ning Fengzhi's. It seemed that Innate Soul Power primarily influenced a Soul Master's cultivation speed and the maximum height of their potential cultivation.
