Chapter 33 - CHAPTER 32 — A DIFFERENT KIND OF JOB

The receptionist looked up as Andres approached again.

"Back already?"

Her tone carried mild curiosity now.

Not dismissal.

"I need something different," Andres said.

She leaned back slightly.

"Different how?"

"Less repetition. More access."

That answer made her pause.

"…You're new," she said carefully. "Most people don't ask for that."

Andres didn't respond immediately.

Because he knew why.

Most people worked to survive.

He was working to understand.

After a moment, she pulled out a smaller board—one not openly displayed.

"These are intermediate tasks. Still low risk, but require awareness."

Andres scanned it quickly.

Escort observation. Inventory verification. Route monitoring.

"…Information-based work," he noted.

"Exactly."

He selected one.

Inventory verification for a mid-level merchant.

Simple on the surface.

But layered beneath.

As he took the assignment token, the receptionist studied him briefly.

"You're not normal, are you?"

Andres paused for a fraction of a second.

"…No," he answered honestly.

Then he turned and left.
