Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Blood on the Bayou

==Lila==

The challenge hung in the air like a storm that had already decided to fall.

Darius stood across the clearing with that calm smile still on his face. Like he had already won something no one else had agreed to give him. His pack formed a loose circle behind him, watching, waiting.

Remy did not look away from him.

Neither did I.

My body was still half shifted. Silver fur clung to my skin in patches as I forced myself back into human form. My breathing came hard. My chest rose fast. My curves felt heavier than ever, like they were filled with something alive.

The elders moved before I could think.

Chains.

Cold iron wrapped in old rune markings snapped around my wrists and ankles. I jerked back instinctively, but more warriors stepped in. Another chain locked around my waist.

Pack law.

"Luna candidate must not interfere in Alpha combat," one elder said.

My stomach dropped.

"I am not a spectator," I snapped.

The chain tightened when I pulled. Pain shot through my skin, sharp and electric. My soft belly tensed. My thick thighs strained against the restraint.

Remy turned his head slightly.

His eyes met mine for just a second.

Something passed between us. Not words. Not even the bond.

Understanding.

Then he shifted.

Bones cracked. Fur exploded across his skin. His black wolf form hit the ground heavy and controlled.

Darius followed.

Sleek. Fast. Confident.

They circled each other under the full moon.

The bayou went silent.

Even the frogs stopped.

Then they clashed.

The sound of impact hit my chest like thunder.

Mud exploded under their weight. Teeth snapped. Claws tore. Remy drove forward with brute force. Darius twisted away, faster, aiming for Remy's flank.

I pulled against the chains without thinking.

Pain flared again.

My wolf surged.

Power rippled through me like fire under skin.

The moment Remy was struck and blood hit the ground, everything inside me snapped awake.

It was only a scratch at first. Darius's claw caught him across the shoulder.

But I felt it.

My body reacted like it was mine.

The chain around my waist tightened as I jerked forward. I gasped. My knees nearly gave out.

The elders shouted at me to stay back.

I did not hear them properly.

All I felt was Remy's pain echoing through the bond.

The second time Darius landed a blow, deeper this time, something inside me roared.

My vision flashed white.

My soft curves hardened with sudden energy. My belly tightened like steel. My thighs shook with force I did not understand.

The chains bit into my skin.

I screamed.

Remy staggered in the fight.

Blood dripped from his side now.

That was when everything changed.

Power flooded me so fast it felt like drowning and breathing at the same time.

The chains began to heat.

Not from fire.

From me.

Darius noticed it first.

He slowed for half a second, glancing toward me.

Remy did not.

He lunged again.

Their bodies crashed together. Teeth clashed. Growls ripped through the clearing.

Each time Remy bled, something inside me rose higher.

The amulet under my skin burned like it was alive.

My vision sharpened.

I could see every movement. Every shift of muscle. Every drop of blood hitting the mud.

The pack started whispering.

"She's reacting."

"The Luna is unstable."

"No. She's feeding it."

The chains around my wrists cracked slightly.

I felt it.

I looked down.

Silver lines formed across the iron.

My breathing turned uneven.

Darius pushed Remy back hard enough to throw him into the mud.

My chest clenched.

The chain around my waist snapped tighter.

Pain.

Then power again.

Remy rose slowly.

Blood ran down his side.

I screamed again.

The chains shattered.

Not one piece stayed whole.

Metal broke like glass under pressure.

The elders stepped back in shock.

I stood there, free but shaking.

My body was not fully human anymore.

My wolf was rising again, bigger than before.

Darius saw it and smiled.

"Interesting," he called out mid fight. "She reacts to pain like fuel."

Remy growled low and charged him again.

This time Darius was ready.

He dodged and struck Remy hard across the ribs.

The sound made my stomach drop.

My body reacted instantly.

Heat flooded my skin.

My curves expanded with force that did not feel natural anymore.

My feet sank into the mud.

The ground cracked slightly beneath me.

The bond between me and Remy screamed.

Not pain.

Connection.

The more he bled, the stronger I became.

The elders shouted for containment.

More chains were thrown toward me.

I caught them.

My hands closed around iron.

It bent.

Slowly.

Like it was nothing.

My breathing turned sharp.

I did not understand what I was becoming anymore.

Remy and Darius were locked in brutal combat now.

Blood covered both of them.

The clearing looked like war.

And every drop of Remy's blood made me stronger.

Darius noticed again.

He broke away from Remy for just a moment.

His eyes landed on me.

"You see it now," he said loudly. "She is not just a mate. She is a source."

Remy roared and attacked him again.

But Darius used the distraction.

He struck Remy hard across the chest.

Remy hit the ground.

Hard.

The sound echoed in my bones.

Something inside me snapped fully open.

My chains dissolved completely.

Not broken.

Dissolved.

Like they never existed.

My feet lifted slightly off the ground as power surged through me.

The bayou itself felt like it was breathing with me.

I stepped forward.

Mud moved under my feet without resistance.

Remy tried to rise.

Darius moved toward him for the final strike.

Everything inside me went silent.

Then loud.

Too loud.

My wolf rose fully.

My body expanded with it.

I was no longer just standing there.

I was becoming something else.

Something the pack had never seen before.

I moved without thinking.

Between them.

My feet hit the ground and the earth cracked outward in a circle.

Both alphas stopped.

Remy lifted his head slowly.

Darius froze mid step.

I stood between them.

Breathing hard.

My body glowing faintly under the moonlight.

My curves no longer felt soft.

They felt powerful.

Heavy with something ancient.

The amulet burned against my chest like a second heart.

The entire pack went silent.

Even the wind stopped moving.

I looked at Remy.

Then at Darius.

My voice came out before I could stop it.

"I choose who I belong to and right now it's neither of you."
