Chapter 10 - When Even Fate Watches Us

The moment lingered longer than it should have.

Even after they pulled slightly apart, even after the world slowly returned around them, something had already changed between Arjun and Aanya—something neither of them could ignore anymore. The corridor was still broken, the cracks still spreading along the walls like scars left behind by the battle, yet none of it felt as important as the quiet space between them.

Arjun could still feel the warmth of her.

Not just on his skin—but somewhere deeper.

Aanya stood close, closer than she had ever allowed herself to be with anyone before. Her hand had not left his. Even now, her fingers remained intertwined with his, as if letting go would undo everything that had just happened.

Neither of them spoke.

Because words felt… too small.

Too weak to describe what they were feeling.

"…We should move," Aanya said softly after a while.

But she didn't step away.

Arjun noticed.

"…Yeah," he replied.

But he didn't move either.

Aanya let out a quiet breath, almost like a small laugh, shaking her head slightly. "…We're not very good at that, are we?"

Arjun smiled faintly.

"Moving away?" he asked.

She nodded.

"…Yeah."

There was a pause.

Then he said quietly—

"Maybe we don't have to."

The words stayed between them.

Simple.

But heavy with meaning.

Aanya looked at him again, really looked at him, as if trying to understand something she had been avoiding until now. For so long, she had kept her distance—from people, from emotions, from anything that could make her feel vulnerable.

But with him…

That distance didn't exist anymore.

"…You make things complicated," she said softly.

Arjun raised an eyebrow slightly. "I do?"

"Yes," she replied. "Because everything felt simple before."

"And now?"

Aanya hesitated.

"…Now I don't want it to be simple."

Arjun didn't respond immediately.

He didn't need to.

Because he understood.

Completely.

A faint sound echoed in the distance.

Soft.

Barely noticeable.

But enough.

Both of them turned slightly, their attention shifting away from each other for the first time since everything had settled.

Kabir wasn't there anymore.

The corridor ahead was empty.

Too empty.

"…He's still watching," Aanya said quietly.

Arjun's expression hardened slightly.

"I know."

The calm moment between them didn't disappear—

but it changed.

It deepened.

Because now, they both knew—

this wasn't over.

"…Do you regret it?" Aanya asked suddenly.

Arjun looked at her, confused. "Regret what?"

"…Staying," she said. "With me."

The question caught him off guard.

For a second, he didn't answer.

Then—

he stepped closer.

"You really think I would?" he asked.

Aanya didn't look away this time.

"I don't know," she admitted. "Everything about this is dangerous. You heard what he said. If we stay together—"

"I know," Arjun interrupted gently.

"But I'm still here."

Aanya's chest tightened slightly.

"…Why?" she asked.

It wasn't a challenge.

It wasn't doubt.

It was something else.

Something deeper.

Arjun took a breath.

Then said quietly—

"Because when I'm with you… I feel like I exist."

Silence.

Complete.

Still.

Aanya's eyes widened just slightly.

Not from surprise—

but from the honesty in his voice.

For a moment, she didn't know what to say.

So instead—

she stepped closer.

Again.

"…Then stay," she said softly.

Arjun didn't hesitate.

"I will."

Their hands tightened again.

Not because of fear.

Not because of danger.

But because they chose to.

The air around them shifted again.

Subtly.

Quietly.

But enough to be noticed.

Arjun felt it first.

"…Something's coming."

Aanya nodded.

"I know."

The temperature dropped slightly.

The shadows along the walls stretched unnaturally, as if responding to something unseen.

A faint ripple moved through the air—

like a disturbance in reality itself.

"…So you chose," a voice echoed.

Both of them froze.

That voice.

The man stepped out from the shadows once more.

Calm.

Unbothered.

Watching.

"…Interesting," he said, his eyes moving from Arjun to Aanya.

"You still didn't separate."

Arjun stepped slightly in front of Aanya this time.

But she didn't move behind him.

She stayed beside him.

"We're not going anywhere," Arjun said.

The man smiled faintly.

"…That's exactly the problem."

Before either of them could react—

the air around them twisted violently.

The pressure returned.

Stronger than before.

But this time—

Arjun didn't fall.

Aanya didn't step back.

Their hands remained locked together.

The man raised his hand slowly.

"…Let's see how long you can hold on this time."

The force increased.

The ground cracked.

The walls shook.

But something was different.

Arjun felt it.

The power inside him—

wasn't unstable anymore.

It responded.

Not to fear.

Not to anger.

But to her.

Aanya felt it too.

"…Arjun…"

He looked at her.

"…Stay with me."

She nodded.

"I'm not going anywhere."

The energy surged.

But instead of breaking—

it aligned.

The air around them shifted—

not violently—

but smoothly.

The pressure began to resist itself.

The man's expression changed.

For the first time—

he looked surprised.

"…Impossible."

Arjun stepped forward.

Not alone.

With her.

Their hands still locked together.

Their movements in sync.

Their presence—

stronger together than apart.

"You said we'd lose control," Arjun said quietly.

The energy around him sharpened.

Focused.

Stable.

"…But you were wrong."

The force around them cracked.

Split.

Shattered.

The man took a step back.

"…So it's already evolving…"

Aanya tightened her grip slightly.

"…We're not afraid of you."

The man smiled again.

But this time—

it wasn't calm.

It was dangerous.

"…You should be."

The shadows behind him twisted violently.

And something else began to emerge.

Larger.

Darker.

More powerful.

Arjun's expression hardened.

"…Aanya…"

She didn't let go.

"…I'm here."

And this time—

neither of them hesitated.

Because no matter what came next—

they had already made their choice.

Together.

Always.
