Chapter 4 - Suit Up

Kael chuckled to himself quietly while listening to the quick interaction between Myth and Lyra. He was secretly happy for Myth. Ever since it was built, it had never talked about much other than Kael and Nyx. Then came along Lyra and Ariadne; of course, that ice queen over there would never start taking to anyone immediately, but Lyra warmed up to the poor machine soon.

But that's what happens when you live with someone for over five years: you learn to live together and to open up. But that was enough reminiscing for Kael; at the moment, the important thing was getting ready for the upcoming mission.

After getting off the stairs, he turned and walked into the area that was under the shadow of the balcony above, where Lyra and Ariadne were at the moment. In the shadow were three different areas: one area where there was a twin bunkbed on the left, another where there was a door into what seemed to be a bathroom in the far right, and right in the middle was a kitchen-like area.

The kitchen sink had dishes overflowing from the sheer amount of them in the sink. Not only that, but the trash was spilling all around the small trash can that was tucked below the counter.

Sighing, he yelled, "Lyra, are you so useless that you move in and can't even do the dishes or put away the trash?"

While arguing with Lyra, he started to walk over to the bunk beds, reaching towards the base of the bottom bunk. When the tips of his fingers touched the base of the bed, it seemed to shrink away as if it was scared of him leaving the inside wide open. Inside the bunk was an hourglass-like item, but instead of sand, feathers were falling slowly to the bottom, much like half of his earring.

There was another similar object, but instead of an hourglass shape, it was a circle that had an hourglass painted on it. While giving the object to Nyx before she flew away, Kael spotted Lyra and Ariadne out of the corner of his eye.

Deciding to make their life easier, he climbed up to the top bunk and proceeded with the same process, pulling out another hourglass filled with spiderwebs instead of feathers, and a circular object like Nyx's, except with spiderwebs. He also found a third object, an earring that was exactly the same as the one he wore.

Tossing the objects to Lyra, he asked her, "Why don't you wear the earring? It has benefits, you know?"

Dismissing the opinion, she retorted, "Because people will question why we have matching earrings. I can't have that for my image."

"Oh no, I'm not good enough for the ice queen over here," Kael added sarcastically.

"Shut up, idiot."

"Alright, alright, ice queen. Are you taking the bathroom or should I?" Kael asked, ending the friendly banter.

"I'll take the bathroom, wouldn't want you peeking at my beautiful body, wouldn't I?"

"Just get in the bathroom, idiot."

Once Lyra walked into the bathroom and shut the door, Kael pulled the tie of his uniform. Modifying his uniform did wonders for him; not only could he change the shape and texture of his uniform, but he could even quickly take it off.

Once pulling the tie off, it revealed a circular emblem of GCU, a meteor falling with red strings extending out of it, mixing in with the world around, turning blue and purple as the meteor descended.

Kael pressed on the emblem, and the uniform shuddered before the back started to open up, and then it got pulled towards the emblem. Starting from the same spot the emblem was, but in the back, it started to unravel and recede back, and it kept going until the only thing left of the uniform was a circular object sealed onto Kael's chest.

Pushing the emblem, he pulled it off with limited force when it bounced back, making sure it left no mark on his skin. Kael then held the item he just got from his bunk, the hourglass. Then he started to work on it like he did many times before and would surely do many more times.

He twisted the two halves of the hourglass in two different directions, one clockwise and the other counterclockwise. This caused the hourglass to be ripped appart seemlessly down spliting the two pyramids-like shapes apart and holding each circular base in the palms of each of his hands.

The mechanism pricked a little blood from Kael's hand before scanning it. After figuring out it was the owner and creator of the object, it started to work. The pyramids started to melt in the hands of Kael. A thin coating started to cover Kael's hands as the pyramid started to melt. The more of the pyramid that melted into his hands, the more the suit started to grow.

It started with his palms, then it moved to his forearms, next to his chest and torso, where the two streams of the metal suit mixed and worked together to cover his legs, and finally it stopped when it covered his whole body.

Pulling upon the power of a tattoo of a crow's feather that he hid behind his hair on the nape of his neck, he materialized a compartment on the bottom of both of his forearms. This area was used for self-defense. When he wanted a secret blade would be pushed out from this area and could even be taken out. This one weapon had multiple modes, one of which was when both were still attached to the forearm, the other was two different magnum guns that could be held by pulling out the blades and forming them in his hands, and the final was a small jian, which he could use by combining the two daggers.

Each one of his weapons had its own benefits and disadvantages. With the assassin blades, as he liked to call them, they were good for stealth and close range, yet they had no range. Meanwhile, the pistols have really good range and speed, yet they didn't have a good ability to fight against crowds, and they had a limit on the amount of ammo from the suit. The final sword, the jian, is a mix of both worlds, able to fight from a decent range and also not being dependent on ammo. This helped his fighting style a lot.

Kael, when needed to fight, usually used secrecy and assassination-like tactics when fighting, nothing like the brute that was changing in the bathroom next to him.

Looking down at his suit, it seemed to mirror that sentiment, a suit that was so dark that he was having trouble spotting the difference between himself and his shadow if it wasn't for the small texture differences.

Engraved in the solar plexus of the suit was the same hourglass with feathers, but this time it was like his earring, where it held spiderwebs in the top and feathers in the bottom, and not just solely feathers.

Punching the arm of his suit, he saw that it glowed blue slightly before energy started trickling into Kael's body. The mechanic that Kael wanted a patent for personally, but didn't want it to get into the government's hands, was kinetic transfer. Kinetic transfer was the idea that kinetic energy could be turned into Moirite because the opposite was true. While scientists gave up on this endeavor early on, they accidentally blew up a city. Kael never gave up; he did, in fact, have to lose a few of his eyebrows, but he in fact did figure it out. It only transferred around .01%, but any force that was applied against the suit would be turned into Moirite for him to use to activate his magic.

While this didn't help him much, it helped his partner, Lyra, a lot more. This was for two big reasons, one of which was that she fought up close way more than she did and took more damage. The second of which was because of her magic, creation magic.

While it was never actually proven by the government, it was theorized. This magic is extremely expensive on the Moirite, though. With the same amount of Moirite taken to create a small dagger, Kael could teleport at least ten times.

Just as Kael finished talking. He heard the door swing open. Looking at the noise, he was about to yell at Lyra again.

But his words were lost in his throat as he looked into the room.
