Chapter 130 - CHAPTER 129: HE’LL FIND A WAY

🖤

Distance wasn't the end it was just… a barrier.

And Caleb Garcia didn't believe in barriers not when there was a way around them or through them or above them.

The board had made their move clean, calculated, separate divisions, separate reporting lines, minimal overlap on paper was airtight but paper wasn't reality.

And Caleb knew something they didn't. Structure could be rewritten carefully, strategically without ever looking like resistance. It started small, of course it did.

A cross-division initiative, routine, necessary. Approved without question because it made sense then another. Different scope, different justification still logical, still clean, still… harmless.

From the outside nothing looked unusual just a CEO optimizing workflow, aligning departments, increasing efficiency exactly what he was supposed to do but underneath, it was something else. He wasn't breaking the system. He was using it and the system couldn't argue with its own logic.

Across her division, Cassy noticed the shift within days. New projects, new overlaps, new reasons for her work to intersect with his.

At first, she didn't react because reacting was exactly what they were being watched for but then the pattern became clear, too precise, too intentional, too… familiar.

She stared at the latest assignment on her screen. Cross-functional review. Executive oversight required assigned to Caleb Garcia.

Her breath stilled for just a second because this wasn't coincidence, this was him.

"…You're doing this," she murmured not frustrated, not surprised just… certain.

Later that day, the meeting was scheduled. Official. Documented. Exactly within the rules.

Cassy walked in first calmly, composed like every other meeting but this one felt different because she knew he had made this happen.

Caleb entered moments later same as always, controlled, measured but when their eyes met there was something there not defiance, not recklessness. Intent. Clear. Unshaken.

The meeting began professionally structured. Every word appropriate, every action aligned but beneath it there was something else, something unspoken because this wasn't just about work anymore, this was about choice.

He wasn't accepting the distance. He was working around it within the rules but toward her.

At one point, their discussion paused briefly. A natural break.

Cassy glanced at him just for a second. "…This is deliberate," she said quietly not loud enough for anyone else just for him.

Caleb didn't deny it. "…Yes." A pause. "No rules broken." Another pause. "But no distance accepted either."

That was his answer not rebellion, strategy. A different kind of control.

Cassy held his gaze. "…You're taking a risk."

Caleb's voice stayed steady. "So are you."

Silence because he wasn't wrong. Every time she stepped into these meetings. Every time she allowed the overlap she was choosing it too not passively, actively.

"…They'll notice," she said.

Caleb nodded. "They already are." A pause. "But this—" Another pause. "—they can't define as anything but structure."

And that was the key. He wasn't giving them a reason. He was giving them a system one they couldn't easily dismantle without contradicting their own decisions.

Cassy exhaled slowly because this wasn't reckless. It was precise, careful, calculated and completely him.

"…You're not going to stop," she said.

Caleb met her gaze. "No." A beat. "Not when there's still a way."

And just like that the distance shifted not removed but challenged, reshaped turned into something they could move through instead of something that kept them apart because this wasn't over. Not by a long shot.

And if there was a path back to her, Caleb was going to find it every time no matter how many times they tried to block it.
