The next morning, Cassy didn't avoid it, she didn't hide, she didn't stay silent, she walked in like she owned the moment.
"Good morning," she said calmly.
The office went quiet, not awkward, not tense ust… waiting because everyone knew something was about to happen.
Adrian approached her first. "…You okay?"
Cassy nodded. "I will be." That answer wasn't weak, it wasn't uncertain, it was decided.
Inside his office, Caleb watched her again but this time not trying to reach her just… observing because something about her had changed and he needed to understand what.
A few minutes later, she knocked. That alone was different.
"Come in," he said.
Cassy stepped inside, closed the door behind her. "I'm going to speak to them," she said, no hesitation, no buildup.
Caleb frowned slightly. "…No." Immediate.
Cassy didn't react. "I already decided."
Silence.
"You don't need to do that," he said.
"I know." A pause. "But I'm going to anyway." That tone wasn't asking, it wasn't emotional, it was firm.
Caleb stepped closer. "You don't owe them anything."
Cassy held his gaze. "No," she said softly. Then, "I owe myself clarity."
That stopped him because that wasn't about defense, it was about control, her control. "They're already talking," she continued. A pause. "I'd rather they hear something real."
Silence.
Caleb studied her. "…And what exactly are you going to say?"
Cassy took a breath. "The truth." That word again but this time it came from her. "I'm not going to deny anything," she added.
Caleb's expression tightened slightly. "That includes me."
Silence.
Because now this wasn't just strategy, this was exposure. "You realize what that means," he said.
Cassy nodded. "Yes." A pause. "It means I stand in it." That line stayed strong, unshaken.
Caleb exhaled slowly. "…You don't have to carry this."
Cassy's expression softened, just slightly. "I'm not carrying it alone," she said. A pause. Then, "Unless you plan to step away."
Silence.
That question wasn't loud but it was everything.
Caleb stepped closer. "I'm not going anywhere," he said, no hesitation, no doubt.
Cassy nodded once. "Then let me do this."
Silence.
For a moment he didn't answer because letting go of control wasn't easy for him but this wasn't his moment. It was hers.
"…Alright," he said finally and just like that the decision was made.
An hour later, the lobby was filled again, cameras, voices, waiting but this time, Cassy walked out first, not behind him, not beside him, in front and that alone silenced everything.
"Miss Williams, are you—"
"Yes," she said calmly.
The questions stopped just for a second because now she was answering before they even asked.
"I'm aware of what's being said," she continued. Her voice steady, clear. "And I'm not here to deny it." The cameras flashed. "I work for Mr. Garcia," she said. A pause. "And yes—there is something more than just work between us."
Silence.
Pure, complete even Caleb stayed still behind her because this was her moment.
"I didn't cause his past," she added. Her gaze steady. "And I'm not responsible for decisions made before I existed in his life."
That line, sharp, precise. "But I am responsible for my choices now." Another pause. "And I choose to stand here."
Silence.
No noise, no interruption because that wasn't drama, that was truth and truth doesn't need to be loud.
Cassy stepped back, not rushed, not shaken just… done and for the first time the narrative shifted not because of power, not because of control but because she took it on her own terms.
Behind her, Caleb watched and for the first time he didn't feel like he needed to lead.
Because she already had.
