Chapter 6 - It Wants Her Back

Lina shouldn't have gone back.

She knew that.

Ethan told her not to.

Everything in her body screamed don't do it.

But night had fallen.

And something inside her—

Pulled.

"I just need my things," she told herself.

"My phone… my clothes… I can't just leave everything."

The lie sounded weak.

Even to her.

Because deep down—

She knew the truth.

It wasn't about her things.

It was about the house.

It was calling her.

The street was silent.

Too silent.

No lights.

No voices.

No movement.

Even the air felt still.

Like the world itself was holding its breath.

Lina stopped a few steps away from the house.

It looked… different at night.

Bigger.

Darker.

Alive.

All the windows were black.

Except one.

Her room.

A faint light flickered inside.

Lina's stomach dropped.

"I turned that off…"

The curtain moved slightly.

Like something inside had just stepped away from it.

Watching her.

Waiting.

"Lina."

She froze.

The voice came from behind her.

Ethan.

"What are you doing here?" he demanded, walking toward her quickly.

"I told you not to come back."

"I had to," Lina said, her voice shaking. "I need my things."

Ethan stopped in front of her.

His jaw tightened.

"It's not safe."

"I know!" she snapped. "But I can't just run away like nothing happened!"

Silence.

Then—

Ethan said quietly—

"You think leaving means it's over?"

Lina froze.

"It doesn't," he continued. "That house doesn't care where you go."

A chill crawled up her spine.

"…Then why does it want me back?"

Ethan looked at the house.

"…Because you're still connected to it."

The words hung heavy in the air.

Before Lina could ask—

CLICK.

The front door unlocked.

On its own.

Slowly—

It creaked open.

Darkness spilled out.

"Lina…"

The whisper crawled through the night.

Not loud.

Not clear.

But right inside her head.

"Come home."

Lina's body moved.

Step.

"Stop," Ethan said sharply.

Step.

"Lina, don't—"

Step.

Her eyes were fixed on the doorway.

Empty.

Dark.

Waiting.

Like it belonged to her.

"Lina!"

Ethan grabbed her arm—

And everything changed.

The world twisted.

The street disappeared.

The air grew cold.

Too cold.

Lina gasped.

She was inside.

The house.

"No…" her voice trembled.

She hadn't walked in.

She hadn't crossed the door.

But somehow—

She was already inside.

Ethan stood beside her.

His grip still tight on her arm.

"…It pulled us in," he said.

The door behind them—

SLAMMED shut.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Click.

A light flickered on.

The hallway stretched before them.

Longer than before.

Narrower.

Wrong.

"This isn't the same…" Lina whispered.

Ethan didn't reply.

Because he knew.

The house had changed.

A sound echoed.

Footsteps.

Not theirs.

Coming from deeper inside.

Slow.

Heavy.

Waiting for them.

Lina's heart pounded violently.

"It knows we're here," she whispered.

Ethan's voice came low—

"It always knew."

The footsteps stopped.

Silence.

Then—

A door appeared.

At the end of the hallway.

It wasn't there before.

It slowly creaked open.

Darkness inside.

But something stood within it.

Watching.

Not moving.

Not human.

"Lina…"

The voice came again.

But this time—

It didn't sound like her mother.

It sounded like—

Her.

Lina's breath stopped.

"No…"

Ethan's grip tightened.

"Don't look at it," he said quickly.

Too late.

She already had.

The thing stepped forward.

Out of the darkness.

Into the light.

It was her.

Exactly her.

Same face.

Same body.

Same eyes.

But empty.

Dead.

It smiled.

"Welcome back."

Lina couldn't breathe.

Couldn't move.

Couldn't think.

Because deep down—

She understood something terrifying.

The house didn't just watch people.

It replaced them.
