Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A World Written in Blood

Selene didn't return Kael to his room immediately.

Instead, she carried him deeper into the estate.

A quiet place.

Shelves stretched from floor to ceiling.

Old books.

Dusty.

Worn by time.

A library.

Selene walked slowly between the shelves.

Her fingers brushed across the spines before she pulled out a book.

"Let's find something interesting," she said softly.

She sat near a window and opened it.

"It's too early for you to understand," she added with a faint smile,

"but this is where our history is kept."

She turned the pages slowly.

Not expecting him to understand.

Just… sharing the moment.

Kael watched in silence.

He couldn't read.

Not yet.

But he listened.

Stories filled the air.

Of the Demon King.

Of the Dragon Lords.

Of the Elven Clans.

And of humans—

caught between them.

A war.

Endless.

Brutal.

Countless races clashed.

Countless lives lost.

Until even the sky itself seemed to break.

"The gods descended," Selene said quietly.

To stop it.

To restore balance.

That war—

was remembered as the Mythical Great War.

A thousand years had passed since then.

But its scars remained.

Kael didn't react.

But inside—

he was thinking.

Different races… gods… magic…

This world was far beyond anything he had known.

After some time, Selene closed the book.

"That's enough for today."

She carried him back.

Placed him gently on the bed.

Then left.

Silence returned.

A few moments passed.

Kael's eyes opened.

He slowly sat up.

This isn't Earth.

This is a kingdom… Aethelgard.

Magic exists. Knights exist.

And so do things far worse.

Demons.

Dragons.

Monsters.

And war.

Humans are struggling here…

His thoughts sharpened.

If I stay weak—

A faint sound cut through the silence.

Hiss.

Kael's eyes shifted.

A snake.

Thin.

Dark.

Slithering across the floor.

It shouldn't be here.

It couldn't be here.

Then—

that feeling returned.

That same presence.

Cold.

Watching.

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

So it's you again…

The snake moved closer.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Not natural.

Kael didn't panic.

He observed.

I can't fight it.

I can't speak.

His eyes scanned the room.

Think.

The door.

Guards outside.

He needed noise.

His gaze locked onto a flower vase beside the bed.

Without hesitation—

he pushed it.

Crash.

The sound shattered the silence.

Footsteps rushed in.

The door burst open.

Guards entered immediately.

Their eyes locked onto the snake.

"That's not normal—!"

The snake froze—

then retreated into the shadows.

Gone.

"Secure the room!"

One of them quickly picked Kael up.

"Young master—are you hurt?!"

Kael didn't respond.

But his eyes remained calm.

Too calm.

Moments later—

Selene arrived.

Her expression changed instantly.

"What happened?"

The guards explained.

Her face darkened.

Anger.

Cold.

Controlled.

Then—

Kael made a small sound.

A cry.

Selene's expression broke immediately.

She rushed forward and held him close.

"It's alright… I'm here."

Her voice softened again.

"No one will harm you."

But Kael didn't believe that.

Not anymore.

As she held him—

his gaze shifted slightly.

Cold.

Quiet.

Someone in this estate wants me dead.

This wasn't an accident.

And this time—

he was sure.

I'll find out who.
