Chapter Five: The Perfect Lie
Killian's World
The forest snapped back.
Instantly.
Violently.
Killian stumbled forward—back onto the road.
Gone.
Everything gone.
The twisted world.
The voice.
Gibson.
Just silence again.
Killian's chest heaved.
"No… no, I was there—I saw him—"
"You did."
Killian froze.
Slowly—
He turned.
Gibson stood behind him.
Perfectly still.
Perfectly normal.
Too normal.
"You found me," Gibson said calmly.
No distortion.
No fear.
No cracks in his voice.
Nothing.
Killian didn't move.
"Say something only you would know."
A pause.
Then—
Gibson smiled slightly.
"You still owe me money from that stupid bet in 2019."
Killian's stomach dropped.
That was true.
But something still felt…
Off.
"You okay?" Gibson asked.
Concerned.
Human.
Perfect.
Too perfect.
Gibson (Real)
He screamed until his throat burned.
"No! That's not me—KILLIAN, DON'T LISTEN—"
But no sound reached him.
No one heard him.
He pounded the ground.
The cracks flared again.
The light pulsed violently.
"They took my place…"
The Presence
"Not taken."
A pause.
Then—
"Replaced."
Chapter Six: Why You
Gibson
Gibson's strength faded.
Not physically.
Something deeper.
Like parts of him were being… peeled away.
"Why me?" he whispered weakly.
"Why can I see this?"
For the first time—
The presence didn't feel distant.
It felt close.
Right beside him.
"Because you looked."
"That's not an answer," Gibson said, his voice cracking.
A pause.
Then—
The truth.
"Others glance."
"Others ignore."
"Others forget."
A beat.
"But you…"
The darkness seemed to lean closer.
"You noticed the gap."
Gibson's breath caught.
"What gap?"
And then—
It showed him.
Not a vision this time.
Not a trick.
A memory.
A moment he had forgotten.
Something small.
Insignificant.
A night.
A quiet room.
A mirror.
And for just one second—
His reflection…
Didn't move.
Gibson's eyes widened in horror.
"No…"
"Yes."
The voice softened.
Almost… pleased.
"That was the first time you saw beyond what the eyes could see."
