Chapter 21 - The Approaching Shadow

Morning came slowly, its light slipping through the tall windows of the Rodieck residence. Warm sunlight spread across the silent corridors, as if trying to erase the tension lingering from the night before.

But that warmth was nothing more than an illusion.

Behind those sturdy stone walls, something had changed.

In the corner of the library, a small child slowly opened his eyes.

Khan had awakened.

His gaze was calm—far deeper than what a child his age should possess. He did not move immediately. He simply lay there, sensing the world around him.

And he realized it.

The change.

The air felt different. Heavier. Denser. As if every corner of the room was filled with something unseen.

Slowly, he sat up.

His body was small. Fragile.

But within it—was a soul that had lived far longer than the body that contained it.

He remembered many things.

Life. Battles. Loss.

And now—

His instincts whispered once more.

Khan turned his head toward the window. The morning light looked normal. Peaceful. Nothing seemed out of place.

Yet—

That was only the surface.

He stood up slowly, his steps light and silent. When his hand brushed against the bookshelf beside him, his fingers paused for a moment.

As if sensing something.

But he said nothing.

He walked out of the library.

The moment the door opened, a different world greeted him.

Footsteps echoed in the distance.

The sound of armor shifting.

And—

Guards.

Many guards.

Khan stopped at the doorway, his eyes scanning the corridor.

Normally, the Rodieck residence was not guarded this heavily. There were always guards, of course—but not like this.

Not in such numbers.

Not with expressions that tense.

They weren't merely guarding.

They were preparing.

As if—

War could break out at any moment.

Khan stepped forward.

Some of the guards noticed him and instinctively gave a slight bow. Yet their gazes were far from calm.

There was something there.

Alertness.

Khan said nothing. He simply walked past them.

But in his mind—

He already understood.

"That ceremony…"

His inner voice was calm.

He remembered that night. The awakening. The surge of energy. Something that should not have happened—

Yet did.

And now—

Its consequences were beginning to show.

Meanwhile, far from the Rodieck residence—

In a sealed chamber filled with shadows—

The Council of Nobles had made their decision.

Their voices were never loud.

They didn't need to be.

Their power did not lie in shouting—

But in deciding.

"The child must not be allowed to remain free."

One sentence.

Yet enough to determine someone's fate.

"If the prophecy is true—"

"—then he is a threat."

"—or a tool."

A brief silence.

Then—

"We cannot take that risk."

The decision was made.

Without emotion.

Without hesitation.

Without regret.

Back at the Rodieck residence—

The dining room felt quieter than usual.

Khan sat in his seat, staring at the table before him.

The food had been prepared.

As usual.

Yet nothing was truly "usual."

Leo sat at the end of the table.

His back straight.

His gaze calm.

But too calm.

Anna sat beside him, wearing her usual gentle smile—yet her eyes could not hide something.

Tension.

Khan saw it.

He always did.

Lilly and Lilith sat across from him.

Normally, they would talk.

Tease.

Laugh.

But this morning—

They were silent.

Too silent.

Khan picked up his spoon.

His movements relaxed.

As if unaware of anything.

But within—

His thoughts were moving.

Fast.

Precise.

"So… it has come this far."

He lowered his head slightly, hiding his expression.

He did not ask.

There was no need.

The answers were already around him.

Leo finally spoke.

"Eat."

Short.

Calm.

But it wasn't an ordinary command.

It was—

An attempt to preserve normalcy.

Khan gave a small nod.

"Yes, Father."

His voice was soft.

Like that of a normal child.

And for a moment—

The illusion held.

But only for a moment.

Because out there—

The world was not waiting.

The day passed slowly.

But the tension did not fade.

Guards continued to patrol.

Orders continued to be issued.

And spies—

Began to move.

As night approached—

The sky darkened once more.

But tonight was different.

Heavier.

Quieter.

As if the world itself was holding its breath.

Inside the Rodieck residence—

Everyone was ready.

Leo stood in the main hall.

His sword at his side.

Not yet drawn—

But ready to be used at any moment.

Anna stood behind him.

Her gaze sharp.

No longer the gentle mother—

Only resolve remained.

Lilly and Lilith were not in their rooms.

They stood in a safer place—

Yet still close enough.

They would not run.

Not tonight.

And Khan—

Stood at the center of it all.

Calm.

Silent.

Yet not careless.

He felt something.

Coming.

Drawing closer.

And then—

Movement.

Outside the residence gates—

Shadows moved.

Fast.

Almost invisible.

The forces of the Council of Nobles.

Arriving.

Organized.

Silent.

Without a sound.

They had not come to talk.

They had come to take.

But—

They were not the only ones.

On the rooftops.

Behind the trees.

Within the shadows—

A dark organization had arrived.

They did not move like soldiers.

They did not follow rules.

They were—

Hunters.

And their target was only one.

Khan Rodieck.

A masked man stood on a high tree branch, staring toward the residence.

His eyes were cold.

Calculating.

Waiting.

"Not yet."

He whispered softly.

"Let them move first."

A faint smile formed beneath his mask.

Chaos—

Was the best opportunity.

And yet—

Behind it all—

There was something else.

Someone—

Who had arrived even earlier.

In a place unseen.

Undetected.

Untouchable.

That figure stood within shadows that even shadows could not perceive.

His gaze was fixed on the Rodieck residence.

Calm.

But deep.

He saw everything.

The Council's forces.

The dark organization.

And—

The child.

Khan.

"So… this is the beginning."

The voice was almost nonexistent.

Yet enough to echo within the void.

Back inside—

Khan slightly raised his head.

His eyes narrowed.

He felt something.

Different.

Not a direct threat.

But—

Observation.

And that—

Was far more dangerous.

Leo stepped forward.

"It's starting."

His voice was low.

But firm.

Anna nodded.

There was no fear.

Only readiness.

Outside—

The first step was taken.

And that night—

Peace ended.

War—

Had come knocking.
