Chapter 149 - Wrath of Asgard

Sif was holding the Asgardian sword, clad in armor with red and gold patterns. The blade was extremely sharp. In her opinion, she could separate the head and body of this strange-looking freak with a single move.

At least, that was what she thought.

Renzo ignored Sif's threat. He looked toward the other Avengers. Blood was flowing from the sword wound in Reed's body. Charles was firmly protected behind him. The magic staff in Mordo's hand was held ready, while the Black man with dreadlocks looked on with eyes full of reluctance and heartache.

"Are you Asgardians really this ungrateful?" Renzo asked her in return.

"The gods of Asgard are among the most powerful beings in the universe. Midgard is merely one of the Nine Realms under Asgard's protection." Sif's sword touched Renzo's neck, as if the next second would see tragedy unfold.

"Mortals should maintain awe and respect for the gods, but you don't seem to understand such etiquette, ignorant barbarian!" Sif's angry expression suddenly turned ferocious. "I was only giving you a small lesson so you would remember to show the gods proper respect!" She became proud again, clearly taking pride in her identity.

"Ohhh, ohhh, ohhh!"

There was a dull sound of something striking the ground. A man in a red hood, his white eyes exposed, crawled across the floor and repeatedly slammed his head against it with all his strength.

Why call him a pervert? Because his clothes and pants had been chopped to pieces.

Why was he lying on the ground? Because his limbs had been chopped off. The entire floor was stained red with blood, and the clean, white surface, almost like ice, was smeared with thick crimson gore. His arms had been hacked apart, the pieces of flesh trampled into paste across the floor, with some of it smeared across the red hood covering his face.

Renzo knew this face very well. The expression, the outfit, the tone, the movements—everything was familiar. He was certain that beneath the mask was a face resembling an avocado.

Deadpool, Wade Wilson! Immortal, the king of gossip, a master swordsman, self-proclaimed best friend of Logan, and trainee X-Man...

Renzo liked this character very much. Even though he was despicable, vulgar, disgusting, and packed with countless negative qualities, he could still give up his life for the people he cared about.

"Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo—" Wade whimpered, twisting his body with his severed limbs as he tried to crawl forward, but Renzo's attention wasn't on his miserable condition.

How did this guy crawl with all his limbs gone?

"Your king is underground. Don't worry, he's not in any danger." Renzo explained calmly, completely ignoring the sword edge against his neck. The only metal in Asgard capable of competing with vibranium was Uru, the metal used to forge Mjolnir. But according to Renzo's high-speed analysis, the sword against his neck clearly wasn't made of Uru. It was, however, forged from a rare meteorite metal recorded in Xandar's archives, so it could still be considered extremely durable.

But in Renzo's eyes, it was still not enough.

"You actually imprisoned the King of Asgard!" Sif went wild when she heard that. Who was that? That was Balder! The mighty God of Light! Odin's eldest son! The future king of Asgard! The current king of Asgard!

How dare these mortals imprison one of the most powerful beings in the universe? Weren't they afraid of Asgard's retaliation?!

Sif's anger wasn't only because of that. More importantly, Balder was her childhood friend, her closest companion, and the person she admired. That role had originally belonged to Thor, but in this universe, it had completely shifted to Balder.

"Damn it!" Sif angrily raised her divine sword and slashed it toward Renzo's neck. Her reason was completely consumed by rage. The proud and powerful Asgardian warrior began to display her extraordinary martial skill. She was one of the strongest warriors outside the royal family, with strength comparable to Volstagg, Heimdall, and Valkyrie!

The power behind this sword was far beyond what ordinary people could withstand. Even Hulk would probably suffer a deep wound under its edge.

What a pity.

What she had encountered was a biochemical body made from vibranium, one of the hardest metals in the universe.

Boom! Click!

With two crisp sounds, Sif's sword struck Renzo's neck. A smile appeared on the woman's lips. She couldn't wait to see the sight of this audacious man's head flying from his shoulders, to bathe in the blood of her enemy. Few Asgardian warriors could resist that feeling.

But in the next second, Sif's mocking eyes turned to horror. The divine sword that had accompanied her through the Nine Realms for more than a thousand years, her most trusted partner and comrade-in-arms... had actually... broken in two!

Snap!

The sound of the broken sword tip hitting the ground was clearly audible. The silence was absolute.

Sif froze. She had imagined countless scenes that might follow this strike. Perhaps someone's head would fall to the ground. Perhaps everyone would be filled with grief and rage. Perhaps they would begin fleeing in panic, obediently release their king, and surrender Midgard.

But she had never imagined this.

"My sword... How is this possible?" Sif's hand trembled uncontrollably. The grief and disbelief surging from her heart almost overwhelmed her mind. She no longer cared where she was or what was happening around her. Now, she only wanted to cut this man into pieces!

Unfortunately, before she could act, a hard, powerful hand had already seized her by the neck and lifted her high into the air. The terrifying force squeezed her throat. After only a few seconds, her pale face turned red, and a powerful sensation of suffocation rushed into her head.

She was going to die!

She was definitely going to die!

Sif thought in horror. Her pupils tried to look downward, and the man she had judged to be no threat was staring at her indifferently.

No... not indifferently.

There was no emotion in his eyes at all, as if he were...

Staring at a piece of trash.

Sif instantly became furious. Who did he think he was? How dare he look at her like she was worthless! He deserved to die! Even Odin and Balder had never looked at her like that! He was a mortal... He was a mortal!

Sif was not the kind of woman who would sit still and wait for death. She kicked Renzo with both feet. Her skills and martial arts were among the finest in Asgard. She had no dazzling divine power or prominent royal bloodline. All she possessed was her own hard work and perseverance.

Sif's strength had been forged entirely by herself, through war after war... over thousands of years, she had built it up bit by bit. Not a trace of it had been handed to her.

Her eyes suddenly became fierce, and the kick she launched was extremely powerful. Even with her body suspended in the air, she could precisely control the muscles in her legs and unleash a kick no weaker than one she could deliver under normal circumstances.

If it had been any other hero, they would have been kicked flying, perhaps even forced to lie on the ground for a while before recovering.

If it had been Charles, let alone a full-force blow from an Asgardian—even a full-force kick from an ordinary human might have killed him.

But...

Duang!

Sif felt as though her legs were about to break, and her expression twisted in pain.

Renzo was slightly surprised. The physical strength of Asgardians really was far beyond that of humans on Earth. For an ordinary person, that kick would have twisted their legs off entirely instead of merely making them feel as though their bones had shattered.

Sif slashed at him with the broken sword in her other hand, but she still couldn't shake the man in the slightest. It was like striking a mountain, though even a mountain would have been unable to withstand Sif's attacks forever.

Renzo's body gradually overlapped with the image of the former king in his mind. Only that one-eyed old man with a white beard could make Sif feel willing to give him her respect.

"I'm all about reciprocity. Since you keep giving me 'gifts,' wouldn't it be rude if I didn't return the favor?" Renzo said softly. He grabbed Sif's right leg and exerted a little force...

Click!

"Ah!" Sif screamed. Her right leg had been completely broken. Her physical strength, which could even rival that of a Frost Giant, had actually been injured so easily by an unknown man!

"A little lesson," Renzo said in a calm tone. This wasn't his universe anyway, and whether these people were injured or killed had nothing to do with him. He merely wanted to curb the arrogance of these gods.

Renzo had always had a favorable impression of the Asgardians, especially the idiot Thor and Queen Frigga. The kindness and affection those two showed genuinely made him envious.

As for the others, Renzo could only say his feelings were fairly ordinary. Nothing particularly impressed him, but nothing made him dislike them either.

During his previous rescue of Thor, he had also spoken quite a bit with Odin. The man who had spent his life fighting was different from the stern ruler portrayed in the stories. Instead, Renzo found the old man quite kind. He reminded him of the old men from his previous life who played chess downstairs, fanned themselves, bragged, and chatted about everyday affairs.

Perhaps because he was nearing the end of his life, much of the sharpness in his words had faded, and he had become gentler.

The old man had always shown his tough side during his lifetime, armoring himself like a suit of armor. He never dared reveal weakness, afraid that if his edge dulled even slightly, those greedy enemies would tear his kingdom apart without mercy, like hungry wolves descending upon their prey.

Heimdall was also a qualified guardian, loyal and steadfast, with nothing to fault.

The differences between the two universes were quite significant...

Renzo was full of complaints. He hadn't stopped for a single day since arriving in this universe. Sure enough... things became troublesome when too many variables were mixed together.

"Do you want to meet your king?" Renzo smiled kindly. Without waiting for Sif's answer, he directly controlled the elevator in the base and dragged her downward.

Down to the fourteenth underground floor, where she could get a good look at her dear king.

...

When the elevator doors opened, Reed and the others did not stop Renzo. In fact, they were also furious about Sif's indiscriminate attack. They were good friends with Balder, especially Reed, who had even invited Balder to join the Illuminati. That alone showed how highly he regarded him.

But the Asgardians were too arrogant, so arrogant that they believed the universe was theirs to rule. Although Balder had never said it outright out of consideration for his friends, it could be felt in his usual posture, tone, and words. He was very good to his friends, but he still didn't think highly of Earthlings.

It wasn't entirely his fault. This was simply the environment in which he had grown up. The Asgardians around him possessed far greater physical strength than humans on Earth, and their society was built around warriors. In terms of raw physical force alone, they were far beyond ordinary humans. A small group of Asgardian soldiers could potentially stand against a much larger Earth force, even one equipped with heavy weapons such as tanks.

Therefore, Balder had never regarded the people of Earth as equals in physical strength.

Wade, who was lying on the ground, expressed his support again and again! Oh my gosh! When did he even lose his pants?

Warhead watched from the side, her eyes twitching.

Fortunately, she didn't like men...

Warhead helplessly let out a philosophical sigh.

...

Renzo dragged Sif by her broken leg to the fourteenth underground floor, known as the restricted area.

The reason this floor was called the restricted area was because it contained extremely dangerous criminals with superhuman abilities who posed a major threat to society.

S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Illuminati had begun their criminal detention operations as early as two years ago. On one side was the battle against supervillains; on the other was the work of undercover agents and assassins.

Under pressure from both sides, the security of New York and the United States had improved considerably. Even some operations authorized by the United Nations had been completed successfully. Some captured criminals were imprisoned in the underwater prison, while others were transferred to Illuminati facilities, transported in a completely unconscious state.

Many lunatics infected by Chaos Magic were also imprisoned here, including Logan, Abomination, Leader, and Balder...

Sif looked at the enormous glass barrier in front of her in disbelief. The transparent barrier divided the huge space into more than thirty small rooms.

The construction of each room was strong enough to withstand attacks from creatures on Hulk's level, so even Logan's claws, Abomination's fists, and Balder's attacks could cause only minimal damage to the cells.

The possibility of a breakout was almost zero.

But Reed still regularly released sleeping gas into the cells to weaken the prisoners and keep their bodies in a weakened state for long periods. He also changed the security systems regularly to prevent people with unusual abilities from exploiting loopholes.

For example, Quicksilver.

Looking toward the opposite side of the cells, an entire undecorated steel wall faced the prisoners. Renzo knew that behind this wall was enough firepower to rival two armies. There were even missiles, incendiaries, electric locks... and capsule rounds designed to suppress mutant abilities.

All of it was hidden behind that clean wall.

Renzo threw Sif in front of the glass of Balder's cell and pressed her head against it, forcing her to see what her king looked like now.

"Your king. Your dear king! Take a good look at him. He must have missed you too, seeing you through this glass."

Sif ignored Renzo's sarcasm entirely. She simply stared blankly at the man imprisoned behind the glass. She repeatedly slammed her head against it and shouted indistinctly, "The witch..." "The witch is coming..." "Destroy the world..." and a string of other frantic words.

Sif was dazed, murmuring to herself.

"King..."

"Balder..."

Sif was holding the Asgardian sword, clad in armor with red and gold patterns. The blade was extremely sharp. In her opinion, she could separate the head and body of this strange-looking freak with a single move.
