Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

The warm morning sunlight poured through my curtains, casting golden rays across my room as I slowly opened my eyes.

For a moment, everything felt peaceful.

Then suddenly, a strange feeling settled in my chest.

Something was missing.

My eyes widened as I quickly sat up, glancing around the room in confusion.

"Where is he...?" I murmured softly to myself.

Just then, the bedroom door creaked open gently.

My breath hitched.

There he was.

He stepped inside with effortless grace, holding a tray with a steaming cup of coffee on top. My eyes instinctively drifted over him his muscles stretched tightly beneath his shirt, every curve of his body visible in all the right places. Even in something as simple as casual clothing, he looked unfairly handsome.

I swallowed hard, trying not to stare as he walked toward me.

"Good morning, princess~" he greeted with a teasing smile.

He placed the tray down on the small bedside table before sitting beside me on the bed.

"You're looking like a complete mess right now," he chuckled softly.

His hand reached up to caress my cheek so delicately, as if he feared I would break from the slightest pressure.

My heart skipped.

"You were roaming around the house?!" I whisper-yelled, panic immediately filling my voice. "What if someone saw you?!"

My mind instantly raced.

What if Mom or Dad had seen him?

What in the world would I even say?!

The thought alone nearly gave me a heart attack.

But instead of looking worried, he simply laughed softly.

I frowned in confusion. "What's so funny?"

"You think I'm that careless, hm?" he asked, leaning closer.

My breath caught in my throat.

He moved so near that our breaths mingled together, his face only inches from mine. I gasped quietly, frozen in place.

"I was invisible downstairs," he whispered against my lips, his golden eyes locking onto mine. "No one saw me, my little mouse~"

My entire face burned red.

He pulled away casually, stretching his arms like he hadn't just shortened my lifespan by ten years.

"You have university today, right?" he asked. "I'll go with you. And from now on, I'll always stay around you. Understand?"

I rolled my eyes dramatically and grabbed my coffee.

"Do I look like a child to you? I can take care of myself perfectly fine!"

He laughed and shook his head.

"Oh really? Is that why you nearly got yourself run over in the middle of the road before I saved you last time?"

"That was an accident!!" I shouted, immediately defending myself.

Though...

He wasn't wrong.

I probably would have died that day if he hadn't saved me..

He chuckled again before suddenly leaning closer.

Too close..

My breath stopped as our noses brushed against each other.

His large hand cupped my cheek, his rough palm warm against my skin.

"You are something else..." he murmured, his voice lower now. Softer. More dangerous. "Driving me crazy without even trying..."

My heart practically exploded.

"I-Is that... a compliment...?" I whispered shakily, unable to look away from his eyes.

He smiled.

Slowly, he leaned in even closer until only a breath separated us.

I could smell his scent now something warm, masculine, and intoxicating enough to make my head spin.

"Mm..." he hummed softly against my lips.

That tiny sound alone sent shivers through my entire body.

My breathing turned uneven.

My heart pounded so loudly I was sure he could hear it.

And judging by the smirk slowly forming on his lips..

He absolutely could.

"Your heart..." he whispered teasingly, his lips barely brushing mine. "It's beating so loudly..."

My face turned scarlet.

Without thinking, I shoved him away from me and scrambled backward.

"I-I think we should keep some distance, okay?!" I stammered, flustered beyond belief. "I've never been around a guy like this before, and you're way too clingy and way too close all the time! So stay at least one arm away from me! Understand?!"

He burst out laughing, clearly entertained by my panic.

Then he gave me a mischievous grin.

"We'll see about that... in time."

Later that day, while sitting in the crowded university canteen, I leaned closer toward Laura and told her everything that had happened.

From the mysterious man appearing in my room...

To him claiming he was my guardian angel...

To the way he kept hovering around me like some overprotective bodyguard.

Laura stared at me for a few seconds in complete silence.

Then suddenly

"What?!" she nearly screamed, slamming her hands on the table dramatically. "So you're telling me your guardian angel is basically like some hot mafia bodyguard with wings?! Damn, that's sick, girl!"

Several students nearby turned to look at us.

"Laura!" I hissed, my face heating in embarrassment. "Keep your voice down!"

She leaned closer immediately, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Laura and I had been best friends for years.

We told each other everything every embarrassing moment, every secret, every life update. So of course, I couldn't keep something this insane hidden from her.

I sighed and rested my chin against my hand.

"I know it sounds crazy, but still..." I muttered. "I want to be independent and handle things on my own. I don't need his help all the time. I mean... I'm eighteen now."

Laura stared at me like I had just said the dumbest thing possible.

Then she burst out laughing.

"Girl, are you insane?" she asked dramatically. "You have a ridiculously handsome daddy guardian angel and THIS is what you're worried about?!"

My eyes widened instantly.

"A what now-"

"I'm serious!" she interrupted excitedly, nearly bouncing in her seat. "Do you even realize how lucky you are? A tall, hot, protective angel who follows you around and saves you from danger? Girl, human men could NEVER."

I groaned and covered my face.

"Please stop talking..."

"No, because listen to me!" Laura grabbed my shoulders dramatically. "You need to make a move on him."

"W-WHAT?!"

I nearly choked-

"Yes!" she nodded aggressively. "Try flirting with him! Seduce him! Something! Who knows? Maybe things will work out and then boom—you'll literally have an angel boyfriend!"

She giggled uncontrollably.

"You'd become the most iconic girl alive. Imagine introducing him 'Oh, this? That's just my heavenly boyfriend sent from above.' Girl, I would die!!!"

I facepalmed hard.

"You seriously read way too many web novels..."

Laura only shrugged proudly.

"Because web novels teach wisdom."

I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore her nonsense.

But despite my teasing...

Her words lingered in my mind.

What if...

What if something actually happened between us?

My fingers tightened slightly around my drink.

What would happen then?

Could a human and an angel even... be together?

Would that even be allowed?

And more importantly..

Why did the thought of it make my heart race so fast?

My cheeks warmed instantly.

No.

No way.

I quickly shook my head, trying to push those thoughts away.

What was I even thinking?!

That smug, teasing man was already enough trouble as it is.

Still...

A small part of me couldn't help but wonder...

...What if?
