Chapter 6 - Chapter 5,5: The Weight Behind the System

King's Landing was never truly silent.

Even before dawn, Ethan could hear it — the city breathing like a living thing. Chains clanking in distant docks. Drunken laughter fading into alleys. Guards changing shifts under torchlight.

But that morning, something felt different.

Not outside.

Inside him.

Ethan sat on the edge of his narrow bed in the Tower of the Hand, staring at the faint blue glow only he could see.

[System Interface – Active]

Current Status Window:

Strength: 25Agility: 25Endurance: 24Vitality: 22Charisma: 26Dragon Affinity: 9Level: 11 (680/1800 EXP)

He exhaled slowly.

"It's slowing down…" he muttered.

The system didn't respond immediately. That was new.

Before, it always reacted fast. Clean. Predictable.

Now it felt… heavier.

After a moment, new text appeared.

[System Notice]

Progression Model Adjusted

Early-stage acceleration phase completed.Transitioning to adaptive growth system.

Stat increases now depend primarily on physical exertion, combat relevance, and decision weight. Relationship progression shifted to behavioral consistency over time. Reward spikes reduced. Long-term accumulation prioritized.

Ethan narrowed his eyes.

"So it wasn't just me."

A faint memory flashed in his mind — Winterfell. Bran. The fall. The sudden EXP bursts. The unnatural speed of everything.

Back then, he thought it was normal.

Now… it wasn't.

He leaned back against the wall.

"Why change now?"

No answer came.

But for the first time, the system felt less like a gift…

…and more like something observing him.

A second window opened.

[Hidden System Layer – Unlocked (Partial)]

Stability Index: Increasing

External Influence Resistance: Active

Ethan's hand tightened slightly.

"External influence?"

The words meant nothing… and everything at the same time.

Before he could think further, another notification appeared.

[Relationship System Update]

Sansa Stark – Current Status: 84/100

Emotional bonding stabilized.Rapid spike growth no longer applicable.Future increases require sustained trust, shared risk, and time exposure.

Ethan let out a quiet breath.

So that's it.

No more easy jumps.

No more sudden "perfect moments" turning into big numbers.

Real feelings… took time now.

A soft knock interrupted his thoughts.

"Sansa…"

He didn't even need to open the door to know.

When he did, she was there — wrapped in a cloak, eyes tired but warm. The city noise behind her felt far away in that moment.

"I couldn't sleep," she whispered.

Ethan looked at her for a long second.

Then he smiled faintly.

"Me neither."

She stepped inside without hesitation.

But this time… the system didn't react.

No bonus. No sudden increase. No glowing text.

Just silence.

And that silence felt heavier than any reward he had ever received.

They sat together near the window, watching King's Landing wake up.

After a long pause, Sansa spoke softly.

"Do you ever feel like everything is changing too fast?"

Ethan didn't answer immediately.

Because for the first time…

he realized the truth.

Not everything was moving fast.

Only his perception of it had been.

The world was simply becoming… real.
