The bright light exploded outward from his right hand, throwing both him and the creature backward.
Overloading his magic not only freed him from being paralyzed, but Sami's head throbbed; his body was still tingling with the residual energy.
Rocks fell from the surrounding ceiling, and the cave itself still seemed to be shaking.
Sami didn't know magic could explode like that. 'I guess if people believe magic can do anything, an explosion shouldn't be a surprise,' he thought, trying to steady his breathing.
He hates missing information that's needed for crucial situations.
Granted, who would've thought that Sami would end up in a legendary dungeon so soon? Actually, he didn't even know that dungeons existed.
"Yeah, blame Grandfather. I blame him all the way." Sami muttered, standing up.
Sami saw the creature lying near his feet; he panicked slightly, not wanting it to wake up and attack him again.
He clapped his hands together. "Aegis," he muttered—a shield formed, pressing down on the creature's body.
The creature's eyes snapped open, trying its best to jump to its feet, but the shield pressed it into the ground, stopping it from moving.
The creature finally stopped struggling. "I'm sorry," she suddenly whispered. "I've been so long without food; when I woke up, I attacked you.
Sami tilted his head at the creature, acknowledging the sincerity in its voice. "Did you just say that I woke you from your sleep?"
"Yes," she answered, her voice weakening slightly. "I made this place because I was tired of the wars, tired of the world, and just wanted peace."
Sami thought about the creature's words.
Now calm, she wasn't coming after him. However, there's no telling if she might attack once he drops his guard.
RUMBLE!
The floor shook heavily, causing Sami to fall to the ground. Rocks from the ceiling are falling around him.
After a couple of minutes of heavy shaking, it finally stopped.
Sami shakily got to his feet, looking down at the creature still pinned by his shield. He turned to the creature, "Is there a way–" he started, a sense of unease growing.
"We need to leave right now," the creature interrupted, her voice gaining a desperate urgency.
Before Sami could answer, the room rumbled once again, the vibrations growing stronger.
Thump!
The creature began to panic, her eyes wide with fear.
Sami kneeled next to the creature, releasing the shield. "Is there something else trapped here with us?" He questioned, doing his best to ignore the smell
The creature lifted its head and stared at him. "Boy, run, leave me behind and go," declared the creature, its voice frantic.
"Why are you so scared?" he asked, his brow furrowed as sympathy for the creature flowed through his body.
"I trapped the Minotaur placed in this place to watch over my tomb in case someone woke me from my slumber.
Sami jumped off the ground, a huge smile on his face as he paced back and forth in front of the creature. "Dude, it'll be so cool to meet the Minotaur!" He started excitedly.
The creature jumped up and slapped him in the head. "You idiot! Now isn't the time to fanboy.
Sami rubbed his head in pain. "Fine, I get you don't have to be so rough!"
The creature just glared at him.
He paused for a second before asking. "Why did you set a monster like that to guard you, anyway?"
The creature hesitated for a second. It took a moment before replying, its voice strained. " I chose The Minotaur because-"
A booming laugh echoed around the room.
Cutting the creature off before it could finish talking.
Sami turned and saw a giant man with a bull's head standing in front of the doorway.
His entire body was muscled, with hairy legs and a loincloth covering his pelvis. Curved horns were on top of its head. In its giant hand was a club covered in metal spikes, dried blood still clinging to it.
"Knock, knock," the Minotaur said in a booming voice. "Sorry for interrupting, but see, you found the bitch I've been looking for."
"Shit," the creature yelled.
Sami, unlike the creature, was excited to see a living legend in the flesh. He wanted to run up to him, but opted to stay back.
"Mr. Minotaur, or is it just Minotaur? I have to say this is an exciting moment for me. I read a lot about you in the history books about the kingdom," Sami spluttered, his entire body vibrating with energy.
The Minotaur paused for a second before throwing his head back in laughter. "HAHAHAHA! You always take in the weird ones, don't ya, Onyx?"
Sami looked at the creature, an eyebrow raised. "Your name is Onyx? Seriously, you couldn't think of anything else?"
Onyx jumped up and slapped him on the back of the head. "Ugh, now is not the time for jokes."
He rubbed the back of his head, but the slap didn't stop his mouth from running. "You resemble a shadow creature. I mean, at that point you should've just named yourself Shadow or Darkness."
"Boy, seriously, it's not the time!" Onyx yelled out, turning to glance at the Minotaur who was just standing in the doorway.
The Minotaur leaned up against the wall, looking at his nails in boredom. "Oh, please don't stop on my account," he replied in a mocking tone. "Once you're done talking, I'm going to kill Onyx. Then for the hell of it, I'm going to chase the boy for old time's sake."
"Actually, I prefer not to be chased; in fact, I'd rather have an autograph instead," Sami stated nervously.
"Oh, don't worry, it'll be a fun game," the Minotaur implied cruelly. "And if you survive, you might get an autograph."
"Fun for whom?" he screamed back.
"For me." The Minotaur bent down and picked up his club. "Time's up, weakling, say your goodbyes."
Red eyes locked on Sami as the Minotaur kicked his legs back. He quickly took off towards them, covering the distance almost instantly.
He quickly scooped up Onyx in his arms, the creature letting out a loud yelp as the Minotaur appeared in front of them.
The Minotaur swung his club at Sami's head. The club cleaved through the air as it approached Sami.
He slid under the attack, the club grazing his cheek as he got to his feet and kept running.
The Minotaur continued into the attack, rotating the club into a vertical strike, trying to bash his head in.
Sami jumped to the side, dodging the attack. The club hit the ground, kicking up a bunch of dust. He summoned Aegis, putting it over the club with as much power as he could muster.
The Minotaur tried multiple times to pick the club off the ground, but the shield blocked his attempts. "Oh, crafty boy, ain't ya?" he laughed, giving up the club. "I don't even need the club, I prefer using my hands to rip my prey apart, anyway."
The Minotaur rushed forward, a grin stretched over. He had his hands outstretched in an attempt to grab him.
Thinking quickly on his feet, Sami decided to meet the Minotaur's charge head-on.
Onyx wasn't happy with this decision as it glared at him. "What are you doing? Why are you charging right at him?" Onyx demanded.
"Just trust me," Sami replied as he kept rushing forward.
She crossed her arms, annoyed. "I don't know why you won't just leave me."
"Because if I want to be a hero, I can't allow anyone in need to die," He ignored any reply Onyx had as he began to concentrate on a spell, forcing it to cover Onyx as well.
The ring glowed in response as Sami began to think about what he wanted to happen.
With a roar, the Minotaur reached out to grab him. The world slowed down, flickering gray as the hand grew closer.
Sami finally got the word out of his mouth. "Phantom Veil!" His form flickered as he went through the Minotaur, completely dodging the creature's grab. And kept running forward through the wall.
The Minotaur looked confused at his hands.
"You cowards, get back here!" The Minotaur screamed. "I will kill you, and that boy will help you!"
He began breaking the cave as an attempt to force them out of the ground.
Rocks began to fall as the cave collapsed. Each loud stomp of frustration from the Minotaur caused even more tremors in the ground.
Sami didn't look back as he heard the Minotaur roar in frustration. He made his way out of the cave, back into the woods.
Looking at Onyx in his arms, Sami wondered what had happened between her and the Minotaur. Why did she lock both of them away?
Sami knew it wasn't the time to ask a question; he focused on keeping his powers activated while dodging the falling rocks.
He hoped to use the forest for hiding.
The loud sounds of the Minotaur faded as he kept moving through the woods. Sami's form flickered back into existence as he made his way through the woods.
[Phantom Veil Ended → 8s Cooldown]
Sami let out a huge sigh as he felt his muscles straining.
If he knew this was how today would've turned out, Sami would've kept the library open.
